1. Betting your future on low density and barely energy positive unreliable boondoggles has consequences. Returning to coal or facing deprivation and death is one such consequence. The seriously anticarbon crowd must either embrace nuclear power and decades of implementation or extreme poverty. Prosperity is based on adoption of higher density energy and going in the other direction yields negative prosperity. Net zero is a delusion of the innumerate, sociopathic vote seekers, or the morally corrupt rent seekers (all rent seekers qualify).

   2. Trouble is, building those nukes and keeping them fueled is going to require a lot of oil, lots.
      Behind every economic unit of production, is a unit of energy.
      That’s going to chaff the azz of every Greta wannabe.

      1. Oil and Gas are essentially irreplaceable but in terms of return on energy, whereas wind and solar yield perhaps between one and two times their (mostly fossil fuel) input energy during their life cycle, nuclear yields 70 to 80 times their life cycle input energy.

         1. I don’t question that.
            What I was referring to was the construction of said reactor consumes vast quantities of material mostly built , transported and installed , with diesel which is a distillate of oil.
            The metal ores used to make the reactor vessel and associated hardware are mined using diesel.
            The fuel to power said reactor along with the electrical distribution lines are mined from the bowels of the Earth and transported using diesel and on and on.
            Our entire way of life is predicated upon the use of cheap oil.
            Barrel for barrel, btu content in a compact , dense , easily transported and stored , stable, safe energy form is hard to beat.
            No way to get around that.

   BTW, I need a few “single use” plastic bags. (I have no single use plastic bags, as they are all re-used for yucky stuff)

   1. I got a hundred or so. No frills is still using plastic bags. Think you gotta pay a few cents for them. Got a couple thousand individually wrapped plastic straws too. Ha.

   2. Ask the store manager to sell you a box, 1000 per box.

      1. I’ve done that one better. In my municipality, grocery stores are not required to charge 5 cents a bag, but they do. So when they refuse to give me a free bag or two for my $100+ of groceries, I ask to buy a three digit prime number of bags, and would you please count them out so I know I’m getting the exact number I’m paying for.

         One manager, in an attempt to avoid causing any more of a scene, offered me a 500 count box for the 317 bags I asked for. So they gave me 183 free bags in order to avoid giving me two free bags. I reported that to head office.

   3. Basement is full of them. Raised two cats for the past 20 years. Useful for ditching the waste, among other things. Excellent kitchen catchers too!

      Whenever I go to Shoppers, I grab about 10 and stuff em into the 11th.

   1. They can be, but no, you’re right. They really are not that stupid, because all of this is deliberate, so from that perspective, things are working out quite well!

   Net zero by 2050 will turn out to be NOT zero.

   1. foo, as long as there are mammals on the planet and volcanoes, there can be no such thing as net zero on a carbon based planet populated with carbon based mammals, humans included, as we all exhale CO2. CO2 is not now nor ever has been a climate driver. Fools abound these days and we have to prevent them from killing us.

      1. CO2 is the unavoidable product of combustion and, if it is a carbon lifeform and it moves, it combusts.

   The only European country to be self-sufficient in agriculture, energy and manufacturing is
   Russia. It has withstood every measure in conventional warfare, including economic sanctions.
   Which has so exposed NATO, the E.U., the U.S. and Canada being so dysfunctional. They’ve been placed on suicide watch.

10. Reality bites. The irony is that this bite of reality is brought on by green Bojo in response to his anti-Russian foreign policy. I am sure his wife is really PO’d with him.

11. Burning coal is a sure fire way to get the weather to turn colder too. All through the coal years it was bloody cold. And they had good football teams and outstanding rock music. So they could maybe look into that also.
