War On Agriculture

Via WUWT;

New Zealand has unveiled a plan to tax sheep and cattle burps in a bid to tackle one of the country’s biggest sources of greenhouse gases.

It would make it the first nation to charge farmers for the methane emissions from the animals they keep.

New Zealand is home to just over five million people, along with around 10 million cattle and 26 million sheep.

Almost half the country’s total greenhouse gas emissions come from agriculture, mainly methane.

However, agricultural emissions have previously not been included in New Zealand’s emissions trading scheme, which has been criticised by those calling for the government to do more to stop global warming.

Provincial prairie governments are as behind on this curve as they were on energy. The Marxist climate/cultural agenda has been embedded in our schools and universities for two decades, their salaries and curriculum funded by the very people they seek to destroy — all while our elected “conservative” representatives inexplicably sit on their hands.

  1. “New Zealand is home to just over five million people … and 26 million sheep.”

    That’s a lot of ovonity!

    1. Well, I get the idea that both those number might shrink soon…particularly the sheep.

      1. Canada has approximately 38 million sheep.

FYI …. The New Zealanders have recently found two new uses for sheep … food and clothing.

  2. …our elected “conservative” representatives inexplicably sit on their hands

Totally explicable: Most “conservatives” are in fact members of the UniParty and are toeing the party line; others are simply stupid and brainwashed, others fearful of children demonstrating, a la Chinese Cultural Revolution. Others want to ingratiate themselves with the likes of the rich Tranzie organizations and others are just plain corrupt. I don’t hold out great hopes of Poilievre on this issue either. Max Bernier is the one to follow on this score.

We need leaders who will call Blarney Science on this, end government funding for the propagation of this fairy tale and build pipelines and open up resource exploration and exploitation. Also, shut down the so-called charities that perform no charitable good works and make political actions for their foreign funders and masters.

        1. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: 100 years of terror and insurrection is the best we can hope for; it sure beats an eternity of slavery, or maybe just 1000 years of it.

    1. If I had cattle, I’m sure they’d be identifying as Liberal donors or something equally protected.

      1. Walk through a cow pasture and I’m sure one will find lots of political commentary left by the bovines.

  3. “You will eat much less meat”

I predict a precipitous drop in game populations.

  4. Beware all ye out West because it sure as hell is coming if Trudeau has his way. We were betrayed and are still being betrayed by “Conservatives” on every single issue right across the board.
They either don’t know how to win or don’t want to win which in my opinion is most likely and in turn makes them complicit.
And their arrogance knows no bounds. The level of self awareness one has to have for a slimy, bald faced liar like Patrick Brown to think he has an actual shot at the leadership grates on me to no end.
2nd on that list is Klaus Schwab disciple, part time Oklahoma resident, professional sidewinder and wine box abuser Michelle Rempel, now contemplating a leadership run in Alberta.
    Arghhhhh!!! Make it stop.

    1. Oh! I totally agree on the sentiment of “they don’t want to win”. Andrew Scheer is my Member of Parliament. From my interactions with his office, he only seems to be in politics for his yearly salary increase and all of the perqs. All of of his children attend private schools and he has done very well for himself.
Before Covid 19 and all of the lock-down shenanigans, I only hated some politicians. Now, I hate them all!

      1. I started hating politicians about 40 years ago. I hated the Liberals because they destroyed the western Canadian economy and I was out of work. I hated the Conservatives because they were about as effective an opposition back then as they are now.

Because of that, I had no interest in politics for more than 30 years.

    1. I hope so. New Zealand is a hotbed of leftist sheep-fornicating, wankers posing as a free people.

      1. And to think that country produced Sir Ernest Rutherford and Dame Kiri Te Kanawa….

      2. As I mentioned in a previous comment … the New Zealanders have have found two new uses for sheep … food and clothing … so ….

  5. If they are going to start taxing methane emissions they should probably start with hydro electric dams. The dams generate mega tons of methane every year as their water levels rise and fall.

      1. They suggest not eating the animals but rather eat what the animals eat.
We are in a war with the globalists and green lunatics over who gets to do the farting … sheep and cows or us.

        1. Trophic levels, my man. They are another thing that is real, sorta a good approximation, anyways…To put it crudely, a given area of land can support so much biomass of autotroughs (plants), around 10% of that mass in first-level heterotroughs (herbivors), 10% of the mass of the first level heterotroughs as 2nd level heterotroughs (carnivores), etc, …and we’re not sure about omnivores. I’m sure those numbers get pretty nicely skewed by modern tech, fertilizers, anti-biotics, GMOs, etc…, at least in the autotrough and 1st level heterotrough categories, stuff we like to eat, not to mention the lies told by the PTBs, who want us to eat bugs.

    1. Oh great! Just what I need, another enviro-tax passed on to consumers, added to my electric bill.

  6. Next, a tax on human methane gas emissions. Really there’s no end to the possibilities.

  7. How exactly do they propose to measure cow and sheep farts? The journos at the BBC airily dismiss such questions with the bromide about “working out the nuts and bolts”.

    1. Who says they need to measure it? Anyone could do a bit of experimentation and math to figure the average emission per head, and make a per head tax, or figure the average methane production per kilo of feed, and tax the feed, etc.

      1. And, once it comes here, there’ll be a new government department established: Belch and Flatulence Canada.

          1. I figured something like that. Another aspect to that is that most commercially available radios don’t have much shielding to save money, making them also vulnerable to external interference.

Now with LEDs being commonly used for lighting and displays, it’s easy to tell where radio frequency noise is coming from.

    1. Simple: For a given amount of a given type of feed for a given species, a certain amount of methane is generated, on average.
Getting a pretty good estimate of the amount of methane generated isn’t very hard.

  8. Good thing we wiped out the massive bison herds.
Imagine how much methane those brutes produced.

  9. You know there is no cure for stupidity. Nothing leads to happy contented people like higher food prices and shortages. Worked at a farm recently. They have 5 full freezers and 2 walk in freezers. A huge garden and 2 walk in freezers. A heard of cattle. Firearms. When the government tells you you will have nothing and like it they will have the only thing that matters. Meanwhile the mass hoards ( like hh who is probably um) should practice ” more gruel please sir” as they wait for the guys who ” have their back” to save them. They will also likely be praying for warmer weather so they don’t freeze to death and hoping they didn’t use the wrong pronoun ,misgender someone or get an orientation incorrect. Pass the ammunition please.

  10. Easy answer – farmers/processors sell for one price local/rural, another for cities. I know that’s not gonna happen, but it gives me a warm feeling. Maybe the cities could get their protein from bugs and rats or other vermin? Modern problems require modern solutions.

  11. Farmers, you are being warned, there will be armed people coming around to put numbered seals on your grain storage so that it will be a federal offence to use your own grain for food. It has happened in other countries and it will happen in Canada. Starvation awaits.

  12. Simple solution….cut off food supplies to Ottawa or any country capital that attacks agriculture.

  13. From one of our enemy’s website…

Appearing via video to address the Commons agriculture committee, Ukrainian agriculture minister Mykola Solskyi said Russia has increasingly targeted Ukraine’s farm sector. He asked Canada to help by providing storage containers for harvested crops.

Health Canada has been finalizing policy to put nutrition warning labels on ground beef and pork. But farmers, advocates and policy experts say the measure is inconsistent and illogical. “I just don’t understand why this is happening,” one says.

    1. Federal government abandons safety assessments and transparency for new gene-edited foods

May 18, 2022, Halifax – Consumer, environmental, and farmer groups across Canada are denouncing an announcement today from Health Canada that will allow private companies to release many new genetically engineered (genetically modified or GM) foods without any government oversight. The groups, represented by the Canadian Biotechnology Action Network (CBAN) and the Quebec network Vigilance OGM (GM Watch), are alarmed that the federal government will now allow product developers to assess the safety of many new gene-edited foods (those with no foreign DNA) with no role for Health Canada regulators. Health Canada’s new regulatory guidance will also limit the government’s powers to simply asking companies to voluntarily notify the government of new gene-edited foods coming to market.

      1. GMOs should be labeled as such, and the entire genome, and the added genetic material should be public information. If one doesn’t know what’s in it, one cannot make an informed decision. Until that happens, I will avoid the stuff to the best of my abilities.

        1. Every major western institution has fallen, indeed the west has fallen to the authoritarian commie/fascist alliance, with nary a shot fired. Now we have rabid ideologues and out-of-control regulators and bureaucrats running the show, beholden only to globalist agendas.

          1. Everything that was built needs to be torn down and reconstructed using untested, unproven and unscientific socialist balderdash, all described by a new intersectional language that only university educated leftists understand. It’s all to cause chaos, uncertainty and cement control of the means of production and societal control by ‘pure socialism’. They actually do think George Orwell wrote a how-to manual.

          2. Personally, I think this “socialism” bit is just a hook to get the idiots on board. Orwell’s Party wasn’t really socialist, it had one goal, and one goal only: To take, keep and use power over people, nothing more, nothing less. Pure authoritarianism. To paraphrase Orwell: “The USSR and the NAZIs had the right idea, they just didn’t have the balls to carry it through.” Western leadership has learned that lesson, and they have also started to implement various other ideas from 1984, like MiniTruth, MiniWar, MiniLove, etc.

  14. Occasional lunch is a can of pork & beans, I fart a lot those afternoons. Surely a methane tax levied on each can of beans would be entirely reasonable.

  15. So they want fewer sheep then. We only have to look around us to see what green legislation is doing to the economy, but that doesn’t seem to slow down the left. They can’t destroy our economies fast enough.
Speaking of sheep, I told a woman it cost me $120 to fill up today and she thought it was hilarious. Idiots will happily pay as long as Liberals are running things.

  16. Obviously, we should also use chemical weapons on a huge scale on the African Veldt, to rid it of all those evil methane-spewing gazelles and wilde-beasts.

  17. Farmers and those that like to eat will have to start injecting politicians. Mass global famines are coming and they are planned. You will eventually have to kill or be killed.

  18. The absurdity of this methane tax is that the wavelength at which methane reflects energy back to the earth is already saturated with CO2 and water vapor. Therefore additions of methane to the atmosphere cannot increase the planetary temperature. The science escapes them, but it was only ever a Trojan Horse any way for autocratic control.

  19. A few years ago, maybe ten or twelve, I remember reading somewhere that Denmark had introduced a methane tax on all cows on Danish farms. I don’t have any details, but if true, that would mean that NZ is not the first country to introduce such a tax. That said, TPTB are always on the lookout for creative taxation. If they could tax the very air we breath they would. They do it all slowly, piecemeal, so as to not alarm us peasants. When they reach the tax that finally snaps the Camel’s back, then they will have a revolution on their hands. They know this, so that is why they want to ban all the legal guns! They don’t care about criminal misuse of guns because that keeps the peasants fearful and more easily controlled. We’re the sheep, criminals are the wolves, but the government is not the farmer, the government is a bigger predator than the wolves. Sadly we are now a nation of cowards and sheep!
