A new poll shows the UCP received a bump in support, jumping ahead of the NDP, following Premier Jason Kenney’s announcement last week of his intention to resign as leader.
I can’t imagine what would lie in store for us in Alberta or Saskatchewan with the Liberals at the helm and NDP provincial governments. But we may find out as there is no limitation on stupidity.

The sight of a Conservative premier of Alberta grovelling to a Liberal regeme leaves a bad taste in the mouth. Then, add the ‘uniparty’ meme. Really, are any of these elected lawyers any different? They say one thing, and do another; and what they do always is left, left, left. Spineless? Corrupt? In name only?
When reform is impossible, revolution becomes inevitable. So, one last chance for the elites to convince me that reform is possible.

I agree. The party needs to move forward. Election of either of these two only enhances the opposite extremist view of the party and will be a step back into division and a revisit of old arguments. It would give the NDP a return surge. Start over, start fresh. And make sure a new government is a UCP government.

Thing is, those stories are echoed by Lieberal & NDP gov’ts across Canuckistan. No difference. UCP deserves no quarter.
I’m going keep an open mind with Smith, her plan for government is strong on the Libertarian side of conservative government. She has unique plans, not the typical cookie cutter political platforms. She’s has been open with the mistakes she made at the end of her Wildrose leadership. I’ll definitely give her a second chance.

I like Brian Jean. He is not boring at all, and most important, he is not in favor of the digital ID, which is being pushed by Trudeau, and also Kenney. It would mean every aspect of our lives would be known to the government.

Well the opposite response is that just over half didn’t think he sucked . But his time was over, move on and find someone electable for the majority of Albertans not just the corner of one party occupied by either Danielle Smith and Brian Jean.
I put no stock in the Liar Kenney’s alleged “Yes” numbers, especially after there were what, 5000 memberships purchased via a single credit card? Why do you s’pose he quit with a majority? It was because he knew that if the vote was investigated, he would be found to be a fraud. It sure as hell wasn’t noblesse self-oblige.
Notley’s worst nightmare came true when Kenney resigned. Her whole appeal is as the “anti-Kenney” and that’s been vapourised.
As for Danielle, Albertans have long memories, and I don’t think she’s ever gonna dig out from under the ignominy of her crossing the floor years ago. And Brian Jean? A lot of people I know said they voted for Kenney but did so with gritted teeth because he was kinda creepy; if that’s the vibe with Jean, it might be over for him, too.
I can’t believe anybody would support the turncoat, Smith. I have little interest in Brian Jean. Toews, I know nothing about. And, I can’t express enough pleasure that Schweitzer only rec’d 3% & subsequently quit. Maybe next time he sees other MLA’s actually representing their constituents, he’ll shut that hole under his nose instead of beaking off.

I think leaderless political parties are always popular. Then they sink once they have to face the reality of a less- than- perfect leader. This mentality is also behind the notion that you can cure a party’s ills by getting rid of the leader. This is a popular move among Conservatives. Does not seem to work.

Whoever leads the party needs to simply take pages out of the Ron DeSantis playbook and do not deviate.
I am sick and tired of the tall foreheads that insist that Conservative governments need to govern as liberals.
Promoting our oil and gas industry as a good thing – and doing so without any if ands or buts about “climate” – as well as pushing relentlessly for access to international markets , should be top of the list.
And stopping equalization payments should be a close second.
And the threat of separation must be real.
And Danielle Smith is not capable of the above.

As DJT and DeSantis have shown, Real Conservatives are incredibly electable.
A significant portion of Alberta wants a genuine conservative, not just an “at least I’m not NDP” politician trying to tightrope a squishy middle ground between what his constituents want and what he hopes will placate an ever-more-leftwing media.
As others have said here – the job of these people is to represent us in Edmonton, not make up elite-inspired policies in Edmonton and try to represent them to us.
I know….”Us” in any province is not a monolithic entity, but if you have the label “conservative” in your party name, that should pretty much define the demograph you are to deliberately represent.

A brief period of Canadian prosperity was largely funded because one man (King Ralph) had the stones to do what he said he would do.

No, it was not paradise, but the Alberta Advantage earned the ire of the “superior” provinces, while funding their bad governments through the double welfare system of individual and corporate income tax from here, and then the additional penalty of transfer payments.
