    1. In the area of the discharge – which is probably a valid point.

      1. Could they not add the reject brine to the city sewage discharge, which presumably is mostly fresh water?

      2. Just off the top of my head I can think of several solutions for too salty water.
We are talking about the freaking PACIFIC OCEAN!
Dilution is always a solution for something that is not dangerous.
run the discharge pipe out into the ocean
multiple discharge points to diffuse any effects
multiple discharges and rotate the discharge to diffuse any effects
discharge into an area with lots of ocean current.
Steve’s idea of using the fresh water sewage discharge is great. (Is anyone considered about the bad effects of brackish water on the whole freaking ocean? Why Not?)
Discharge into a river or creek outflow.

  1. And they have not built a new damn in over 40 years.

It’s not a lack of water in California, it’s a lack of water storage

  2. California’s problem is actually the wanto waste of water to keep tiny, irrelevant minnows alive. Let the humans die.

  3. Everyday the the words mass suicide seem to be on my mind. People sure are crazy lately.

  4. This is interesting, an article on “why” California is in drought.

    https://www.mercurynews.com/2021/05/24/whats-causing-californias-worsening-drought/

“the single biggest storm each year provides 15% of the annual rainfall in Northern California on average and 30% in Southern California”.

According to the article these big storms (the pineapple express) just aren’t happening as frequently and with the area 2 deg F hotter than in the past, water doesn’t go as far as it used to.

No mention of water usage, but that is another problem.

    1. Growing almonds and asparagus (irrigated by water piped in from the Hoover dam) in a semi-desert surely has nothing to so with the problem.

  5. Democrats in California can:
    – stop watering their lawns
    – stop watering plants
    – empty their swimming pools.

  6. I think it is clear there is a consensus amongst readers that America’s Pacific Ocean state is following a policy that they do not agree with. I appreciate the diversity of policy options presented. Speculation and conjecture are entertaining. The leadership of the area seems to be resolving karma from a past life in Pompeii.

    1. Brings to point of glaciers and theories…
At 46.7 degrees latitude, water changes directions North and South in rivers.
      So why isn’t it glacial?
With the global warming crap, they keep putting out glaciers.
I velocities mapped our planet so I do have some fascinating facts not being explored or examined.

  7. I had a peek at the California Coastal Commission’s roster. Too many Leslie Knopes…not enough Ron Swansons.

    1. Ron Swanson is the modern day Archie Bunker. He’s supposed to be a parody of conservative libertarians, but since leftist screenwriters don’t know any conservative libertarians they just wrote a real conservative libertarian and had him played by a charismatic comedian with an acerbic wit. Presto, one cultural hero.

  8. Even if it were approved, California would quickly find a new way to waste 50 million gallons of water a day.

    1. We would truck the water to every stream that had less than the “average” summer flow and artificially suspend the NORMAL yearly water flow fluctuations. We will play god and play Gaia … because we can statistically tabulate “normal”

      1. One assumes, then, that water pipelines would be applauded. The irony is mind curdling.
