Social Worker

She’s a social worker not an “economist”.

Globe and Mail- This economics professor who’s behind B.C.’s new economic plan wants to remake capitalism

British economist Mariana Mazzucato wants to remake capitalism by shaping economic growth around objectives such as tackling social inequality and sustainability. Her ideas attracted the interest of British Columbia’s Jobs, Economic Recovery and Innovation Minister, Ravi Kahlon, who sought out the economics professor at University College London, and she spent a year helping draft a new economic plan for the province.

  1. She is not going to “remake” whatever is left of capitalism in the world. She’s going to destroy it while trying to hide the whole effort behind nonsensical bromides.

  2. As if I needed another reason to leave B. C. for good……

  3. Another Soviet Five-Year-Plan – sure to be a resounding success – after all, what could possibly go wrong?

  4. BC huh…No surprise there.

When (hopefully), the west leaves…lets ensure we Do NOT Incl. the Okanagan, Lower MAOland and the Island….k?

  5. What a great idea. I fully support remaking capitalism in BC but I don’t think her plan is ambitious enough to be sustainable. Any remaking of capitalism needs to start with centralized planning, seizing the means of production of everything with the goal of shared ownership and eventually killing all the sparrows.

    1. “Capitalism” in BC has already been under a steady “remaking” for over 30 years.
Decline in the forest industry, thanks to politicians knowing better than trained experienced foresters, how it should be run.
Decline in the mining and fishing industries, have also been steadily remade (downscaled), again, thanks to all-knowing politicians.
Oil and gas, is the latest victim of being remade.
Real estate and housing is also now being slowly “remade”.
Pretty soon, every industry will be token in this province, save for politics, and it’s
Self-serving participants ensuring it remains as is!

      1. And think of all that “social justice” that’s being experienced. Isn’t it wonderful how we’re all “caring” and “sharing”?

That’s the sort of bilge I heard in every Sunday morning service I attended while I was at UBC more than 40 years ago.

Active participant amongst the WEF (Davos) crowd.

Little surprise that she’s eager to help ‘reset’ economical problems.

  7. How about working to supply a product that people need, want, can use, consume and make a bloody profit one. No more socialism. We are on the skids now and will not survive much more of the freaking insanity of the left and a lot of the right.

    1. An economy that runs on nothing but navel-gazing at your genitals and telling each other how oppressed you are will be the industrial powerhouse of the 21rst century.

  8. She has a poor understanding of what capitalism is. Capitalism an economic system in which a country’s industry is controlled by private owners. At its heart is individualism manifested in free enterprise.. This is not what she is proposing. What she is proposing is corporatism. Corporatism is an economic system overseen by the state. At its heart is collectivism (we’re all in this together). All of the stakeholders in corporatism (the word for the corporate collective) are invariably subsumed by the state. If left unchecked it leads to total state control of the economy and society.

“All within the state, nothing outside the state, nothing against the state.” Sound familiar?

  9. Here, allow me to outline these theories for everyone to grasp. Mariana Mazzucato believes everyone should get a Trophy of Participation. There will be no meritorious rewards for excellence, ingenuity or accomplishment. Well, I should clarify. Your excellence…your ingenuity…and your accomplishment will reward someone else. And, when we have difficulty stilting performance in that fashion by stealing motivation…we shall create a scenario that requires sacrifice and use it to place regulations, taxation and control on your achievements. For now, that is the Ozone deficiency….uh, I mean Global Cooling….oh crap, I mean….Global Warming….oh hell…Climate Change.

    1. She’s the type of leftie who’d suggest that all email be sent to Canada Post, who would print it out, and deliver it in the snail mail.

      …To provide employment.

      Remember Jean-Claude Parrot?

  10. Is it possible to short BC Canada? This reaffirms my belief in academia and wymen everywhere. Brain matter in Lefturds are as scare as teeth in a meth house.

    Don Boudreaux:
“This insight is one that is lost on proponents of industrial policy such as Oren Cass, Julius Krein, Mariana Mazzucato, Marco Rubio, and Elizabeth Warren. Industrial-policy proponents want to play god with the material of the social universe. They believe that only by conscious design – design usually along the particular lines that they fancy – can good social orders be formed.

Industrial-policy proponents might well have the motivations of a god. But because of their ignorance of sound economics and their obliviousness to the unfathomable details and complexity of the modern global economy, the consequences of industrial-policy proponents’ ideas are destined to be indistinguishable from those wrought by a devil.”
