$11 billion is a far cry from 10x $5 billion. And last year was an outlier.

“Between 2014 and 2018, Musk paid $455 million in taxes on $1.52 billion of income, according to ProPublica, despite his wealth growing by $13.9 billion over that period.”
OK, he paid it back more than twice. That’s still a good investment, where you double your money in less than 10 years.
The state showed a net profit from subsidizing him, and that’s how subsidies are supposed to work.
$455M on$1.5B is just less than 30%, which sounds about right, DB. We don’t tax anybody’s unrealized capital gains, whether it’s Musk’s Tesla shares, my stock portfolio, or your house – so the increase in his wealth is irrelevant, even if it does stir up the jealous and resentful.
Subsidies to Tesla buyers are ridiculous – but so are subsidies to buyers of Nissan Leafs or Chevy Volts – don’t blame Musk for government policy that was pulled from someone’s ass. I presume the NASA contracts are considered to be at some sort of positive value for money, but if not – blame NASA, not Musk

There is something to be said for judging a man by his enemies. I am not sure about Musk, but he is pissing off the right people, IMO.

If nothing else, I’ve gone from absolute indifference to Twitter, Star Link, and Tesla, to amusingly interested in the shenanigans and social earthquaking going on! People on the left hate the Musk take over of Twitter.
The main reason is that the left are afraid of losing their control on the narrative. Left politicians often tell the leaders of Twitter, Facebook, Tiki’s Tok etc to get anyone one with a conservative view banned which they have done sucessfully in the past.
They are afraid that Musk might stop this influence peddling and are panicking.
It’s all about control of the press. MSM has little influence left and the lefty’s know this and that’s why they want control Twitter Twitter etc.
