His stupid policies of banning oil extraction on public lands, cancelling the Keystone XL Pipeline, and halting exploration of ANWR empowered Putin and Russia by increasing Russian Oil and Gas exports AND raised the World Prices Russia received for its oil and gas. That extra income financed Vladimir Putin’s war on Ukraine. A few shoort years ago, Putin was canceling ships and new weapons systems.

3. The only way to beat Putin is via the military. That was obvious when we learned who he sent for negotiations. It was all for show. Trump is wrong, the only way Putin will accept reasonable terms is if the war becomes heavily slanted against Russia. Even then, he still needs a way to declare victory.

   Aftert the Kyiv failure for Russia, Donbas will be another failure. Expect some interesting moves over the next week.

I used to love reading the comments on SDA for the variety of opinions and to see what real people actually think about a given topic but lately anything involving Russia or Ukraine has caused the thread of comments to devolve into something that is unreadable. The usual suspects on here are destroying what used to be such a treasure.

8. Negotiate? With whom is Moscow supposed to negotiate? The government of the Russian Federation does not negotiate with terrorists. It fights them, and wins. Ask the Chechens and Syrians.

   If President Trump had remained in office, discussion of the Ukraine question would have remained on an adult level, because Trump made clear that he was not interested in getting the United States involved in any more wars to make the world safe for globalism.

   As it is, peace will be restored to the Ukraine when Russian law and civilization are restored there. That cannot begin before the Kiev régime is defeated.

   Russia wants no part of a “peace” in which Russia ceases to exist.

       That “idea” didn’t weather very well and, frankly, sounded more like an ad hom attack on the Ukrainians at the time than anything else. What punishment should that person have received?

15. Putin has 3+ people for every 1 Ukrainian, and Putin will not hesitate to throw every Russian into this meat grinder, and fight for years, if it means he wins. He will kill every Ukrainian male, if he needs to do that to win, and de-population is one of Putin’s goals in Ukraine.

    Ukraine will not survive a long war of attrition. For Ukraine’s sake, the world should demand a ceasefire and peace agreement now. Encouragement should come in the form of total suspension of oil and gas purchases by Europe, which is what keeps Russia afloat.

16. Today’s ruskie soldier is no cossack. He may have a trace of cossack blood but he has morphed into a vodka soaked, unsanitary, poorly trained unreliable lout.

    The russian military may have the bomb but on the ground they have not evolved much since WW11. They are insufficiently trained and have misread the nature of modern warfare. They have to send their generals to the front to personally oversee basic operations because of the lack of training and commitment of the grunt.

    Footage of destroyed tanks show equipment from the 60’s. Thin walled tanks that when penetrated by modern missiles the exposed ammo explodes and blows off the turret.

    Sure, on paper the russians can win a war of attrition but they are fighting on foreign territory and their logistics don’t measure up. Their retreat from Kyiv exposed the filth and squalor they lived in.

    The russians probably will prevail – maybe. They have the big one in their hip pocket. On the ground they are in tough. The Uke is prepared for a fight to death. Think the russian has the same resolve?
