   That simply is not the case.
   Mass slavery ended because of steam power, ie industrialization.

      It ended because there were countries willing to fight. Thomas Jefferson had enough of Americans being kidnapped in the Mediterranean area and held for ransom by one sultan or another. That’s why he sent in the U. S. Navy, as well as the Marines, against the Barbary pirates, the incident being memorialized in the opening lines of the Marine Corps Hymn.
