As I mentioned before, it would be interesting to know how many people officially gave up citizenship which this article based on statscan numbers reports and how many have left with no intention of returning but are maintaining citizenship to receive pension benefits etc.. And it will be interesting to see how many unvaccinated Canadians, who have had mobility rights removed, will leave once their rights are restored.
I think the banks might see this effect first as people who have decided to be permanent expats move their money to other countries, while maintaining a Canadian bank account to receive CPP and work pensions.

Ha…Mexico and some Central American hospitals for expats are world class, and quite affordable…especially cancer treatment.
Me and the missus had been kicking around the idea of spending our last years (20-30) in Costa Rica for some time now. Health insurance is cheap – both public and private coverage – and expats can access both tiers of the country’s healthcare system seamlessly…which is good when the public system gets backed up.
If we go…we’ll be tearing up our passports once all our money is out of the country. Enjoy waiting in line when you get cancer!
I’d be interested in seeing a breakdown of those leaving in terms of the urban/rural divide, and economic status.
I’m sure that capital flight is a large factor, but is it the largest?
I arrived in Canada from the UK in 1978, and haven’t even visited there since 1990. Raised a family here, ran a couple of businesses here and have been very happy. Until recently.
In the last month I have been scanning real estate in the UK and have been pleasantly surprised at what is available, outside of major urban areas. Never expected that I would start to feel that way.
I just have to figure out a way to actually get out of Canada with my bodily integrity intact.
The UK? Seriously? Consider Central or South America. Convert your assets to precious metals, arm yourself to the teeth and never look back.

The sad reality is that there are few places left that appeal. Costa Rica maybe, or even Belize. I used to like New Zealand, but that isn’t much of an option nowadays, ditto Australia. I have friends in Perth and they are effectively prisoners in their own State.
I once thought of the Canary Islands: lovely climate, cheap booze (totally duty free).

Some native Canadians refuse to see the problem. The government is destroying many of our democratic rights. At the same time, they are undermining the economy. I came from the US many years ago. If I could manage logisitics, I would like to return to the US. I know that under Biden, the US is nearly as bad, but I think some States are still quite livable and democratic rights are better protected. Mexico is also an attractive destination for me. I will have to persuade my husband. Our family is here. Not easy to drop everything and leave, but it is tempting.
Aside from people fleeing Canada there will be less “quality” Immigration into Canada. Canadians remaining can expect a surge in the crappy immigrants with no marketable skills and expectations of a western welfare state.
