Financial markets seem more than a little concerned about the impact of using trade sanctions as the main tool to end the war in the Ukraine.
The London Metal Exchange (LME) cancelled nickel trading on Tuesday after an unprecedented 250% price spike triggered by Western sanctions against Russia.
Prices for the metal, mainly used in stainless steel, soared to a record above $100,000 a tonne amid a vicious short squeeze — the largest-ever on the LME.
It looks like those sparky cars are set to get a lot more expensive going forward:
Russia not only is responsible for about 10% of the world’s production, but Moscow-based Norilsk Nickel (MCX: GMKN) is the biggest provider of battery- grade nickel at 15% to 20% of global supply.

Russia supplies 15% of battery grade nickel?
They’ll just sell it to China or India.
Meanwhile the gang greens will object to new mines elsewhere.
And maybe Teslas will get more expensive.
The Chinese are running rare earth mines in my neck of the woods, in Eastern Ontario.
I live in Eastern Ontario, this is the first I have heard of that. Can you elaborate as to where these mines are and how many people are employed there.
“gang greens”! Haha! I had to read it a couple of times before I got that one
F! Joe Biden canceled the leases for the Twin Metals Copper Nickel Mine in Northern Minnesota last month.
This is as stupid as canceling the Keystone Pipeline, refusing oil leases and permits, and stopping ANWR.
IOW, Typical Joe Biden.
Apparently they wouldn’t agree to 10% for the Big Guy.
Typical democrat communist committee decision. Biden decides nothing.
Apparently like budgets “the stock markets will balance themselves”!
Remember when the CIA set up several foreign shell companies and bought small quantities of titanium with each of them?
Spaced over several companies and several years, the titanium acquisition program would obtain the titanium required to build the SR-71 Blackbirds.
Isn’t there any legacy media interested in what Greta has to say anymore?
Hey man, anything to beat Russia! You will have less nickel and be happy…and less gas…and less electricity…but still lotsa Chinese products! Yay!
And what percentage from Chinese products goes to Biden?
Another pro-Putin propaganda post at Small Dead Douches.
Canada produces lots of nickel. We have big untapped deposits of it. So this is a short-term squeeze.
Like your Russian masters, you don’t like sanctions.
Tough beans.
You want to rape mother Gaia in our own backyard for your capitalist running dog EV?

It’s a matter of restarting the exploitation. Just like oil. Who’s going to step up, knowing all crackpot groups will oppose it, including the Liberals. So much red tape, is it worth it? And when will the government decide to sabotage this as well?
Chelsea, I would point you to this graph of nickel production from our own government. Since the Trudeau Liberals entered power, the trend of production, like a lot of other industrial products, has been downward. Trudeau’s objective is to crash the economy, not help it out. He is WEF devotee, fully aligned with Agenda 21/2030 and will do everything in his power to reduce Canada back to a world heritage park which means not drilling, not mining, not supporting or promoting any industry.

Look for yourself.
Ha ha, we have a winner, new name Chelsea pig iron. If you even made an attempt at understanding what you are talking about, you might get some respect. That’s what happens when you major in library science rather than chemistry. Try not to embarrass yourself further. It’s not a good look.
And no, we won’t be replying to any more of your comments. Keep on the bike path, let the adults do the talking.
Canadian nickel reserves are miniscule. Indonesia and Australia both have reserves that are ten times those of Canada.
So you are saying nickel prices are not rising? Are you saying you can just toss twenty percent or so of the daily supply and nothing will happen? I mean, I see the name calling but I don’t see the point of the comment.
To put on full public display its basic stupidity.
@Chelsea Mourning supports NAZI’s!

Poland decided it does not want to be the next US Proxy – Russian Battleground.

If Biden and Blinken want to expand the war by sending Polish MiG-29’s to Ukraine, they can take full responsibility. Poland will ship the MIGs to German Airfields where the US and Ukraine can fly them into the War Zone. Let Russia retaliate against German Air Fields, not Polish.
The Democrats have done their best “Let’s You and Him Fight!” ever since they fomented the Ukrainian Color Revolution in 2014. What has it gotten Ukraine? The loss of Crimea, and a Russian Financed Secession War in the Donbas for seven years. Just ask the 298 people on Malaysian Air Flight 17.

If only there were some alternative to EV’s…
What did anyone expect?
The economic policies of the western world have been hijacked by a failed financial journalist only notable for her Ukrainian chauvinism, Russophobia and anti-Semitism.
Why didn’t someone just give little Chrystia kerosene and matches to play with? She’d have only burnt herself to a cinder.
As it is, the nickel is the least of anyone’s worries. Zelensky’s last stand has left Lesser Russian farmers unable to plant their wheat crop this year.
That’s a big reason so many Third World nations abstained on the vote to condemn Russia’s attempts at self-preservation.
Chrystia has condemned untold millions to starvation just so she can tell the Siberian Mongol Yids to sit on a big fat Uke cock.
If it doesn’t make you feel ill just to look at her, ask yourself why.
Have many of the farmers joined the exodus? I doubt it, the leavers are from the towns and cities. The villagers will be planting some wheat, plenty of time for that.
Speaking as a farmer.
I can’t plant if I can’t get fertiliser, diesel, chemicals and spare parts.
I can’t get those things if the roads aren’t open and the transports aren’t running.
The transport systems won’t be running if the power and fuel infrastructure is destroyed, the city-based transport hubs are destroyed and the ports and highways are blocked, mined and dug up.
The fuel will not come if it is being prioritised to run military vehicles and keep people from freezing because people who die NOW will not be concerned with possible starvation in 6-9 months.
Do you think that Ukrainian and Russian farmers are growing a significant proportion of the world’s wheat behind ox-drawn ploughs?
There is some incredible naivety here….
Oh dear…
Of course those who will wear the cost of stopping Russia in the short term are likely to whine. What else do you expect?
“Let the peasants die. They aren’t our peasants.”
Funnily enough, that’s exactly the attitude that makes the loony left look credible, and Libertarians look like asses. Some of you might care to think how those “stupid lefties” are using this issue to drive a wedge between you and ordinary, decent folks.
