This evening, with a hat tip to SDA regular reader Dick P., we present a documentary entitled The 12th SS Massacre of the Canadians in Normandy. This is a vivid reminder of the sacrifices that our brave Canadian ancestors gave while fighting for the freedom of the people of France.

Prior to 1940, the people of France were free. But they lost their freedom for 4 long years.  Prior to March 2020, we Canadians also took our freedom for granted. Then it disappeared, at first due to a microscopic enemy. But it wasn’t soon after when power hungry “leaders”, under the banner of an “emergency”, took away some of our freedoms.  Then more.  Then even more.  Honourable men and women would have insisted upon restoring these freedoms as soon as possible but instead, many of those in charge, and their well paid propagandists in the legacy media, engaged in a campaign of ridiculing, belittling, and othering everyone who dared question any of their policies.

While it’s absolutely true that the two events, 80 years apart, are not directly comparable, only a myopic fool would dare argue that a vast number of our freedoms haven’t been systematically stripped away in the past two years.  Our current day freedom fighters don’t wear uniforms and don’t fight with guns but they are indeed heroes that historians will proudly write about.  We are all eternally grateful to have them peacefully fighting to restore our freedoms, and those of future generations.  #TruckersAreOurHeroes

    It is dark, but unlike most of my previous recommendations this isn’t pulp, it is a work of art. Citizen X is the story of a hunt for russia’s most notorious serial killer. Great portrayal of Soviet Union in the late 80s. Featuring brilliant performances by Stephen Rea, Donald Sutherland, and especially Max Von Sydow. I can’t say: “hope you like it”, it is too dark for that, but it is definitely worth your time.

One of the prisoners of war who was shot in the back of the head by Kurt Myers (sp) in that abbey was a great uncle of mine who I never got to meet. I am certain that this is the video my dad mentioned just yesterday.

    What made his contributions so valuable was that he taught the astronauts to not only make observations while on the moon, but what rocks to collect. They had to become, in effect, geologists themselves as most of the mission scientists themselves were clearly unable to be there in person. (Dr. Harrison “Jack” Schmitt, one of Silver’s former students, was the only one to actually go to there as a member of the Apollo 17 crew.)

    That training resulted in Dave Scott and Jim Irwin (Apollo 15) finding the so-called “Genesis Rock”, a piece of anorthosite, believed to be part of the original lunar crust. They had been taught to identify various minerals and were able to identify the sample.

    The story of how those astronauts were trained was presented in the episode Galileo Was Right in the HBO mini-series From the Earth to the Moon.

      1. It’s going to take a few months to properly check out the JWST, but the initial results look promising, indicating that the machinery is working like it’s supposed to, at least for now.

      2. Way back in the early ’80s I was working on a Canadian space telescope. Sadly it was canceled when Canada decided to put its money into the Space Station.

        I worked with some of the scientists and engineers for the Hubble. It was an exciting time for me and I learned a lot. Now just a distant memory.

        1. Impfstoff Macht Frei – What an ironic name. I wasn’t aware of the Canadian space telescope. I was at the lab that made the Hubble mirror in Connecticut. They had wanted NASA to pay for another quality check before launch but NASA balked at the cost. I wonder what they paid to fix it in orbit? The lab still has a flawless mirror for Hubble in their warehouse. If you don’t have time to do it right, when will you have time to fix it?

          1. It was called Starlab. We were working with Australia, the US and latterly France. The project was dependent upon the Australians developing the world’s largest photon counting array. As the project proceeded, they started to realize why nobody had built one as big as they wanted.

            I was at the conference in Canberra when reality hit them in the face.

            Pity, it would have been a fabulous project to work on.

          2. IMF:

            About 40 years ago, I worked for a company that had a contract for a couple of projects that were slated as Spacelab instruments. My involvement was rather short as I was fired less than a year after I started.

            From what I heard, only one of them was ever finished. It ended up in some government warehouse as a result of the Challenger mishap and, as far as I know, is still there, gathering dust. Because of the accident, foreign payloads were sidelined.

            The other instrument went nowhere as the principal investigator, apparently, “lost interest”. Millions of taxpayer dollars were completely wasted.

  25. My uncle did two tours over Europe in a Lancaster bomber. He was the bombardier. His crew managed to stay intact the entire time. However, for his efforts, he died young at 64 in 1978.
    He was fighting to stop people who were doing then that our current governments are doing now. If this keeps up his sacrifice was wasted.

    I can’t take it anymore. Stylistic flaws, cookie cutter photography & other technical issues notwithstanding, would someone, anyone, please, tell said “street photographer” that taking a wide angle lens & shoving it into a subject’s nose does not make for a flattering photo?
