January 6, 2022: Reader Tips

While driving through the middle of Texas recently, this song came on the radio.  I had never heard of Kenny Wayne Shepherd before but rather like this music.

Your most interesting tips of the past day are much welcome!

  1. Five days before Christmas, one of Canada’s most courageous scholars was fired by her university because she had consistently dissented from its rigid ideology on indigenous issues. I wish there were more to say about the shameful expulsion of Professor Frances Widdowson by administrative heavies at Mount Royal University (MRU) in Calgary. Alas, the story of her ouster will be so familiar to readers that only the details provide any interest. One wonders, however, if this will be the Stalinist purge that finally alerts citizens in Western countries to the mortal danger posed to their societies by out-of-control Woke movements in contemporary institutions of higher education. For Canada, the Widdowson liquidation could not be more germane to the drift of that once great country into guilt-wracked paralysis.

    1. I guess my concern about having to physically remove an obstacle is getting closer everyday.
No vaccine is far better than an experimental not-vaccine.

    2. I had to read the post a couple of times before I finally got it, but get it I did.

The baked potato would probably go along with this idea if it came to his desk.

For those who are having similar troubles with the reference, think WWII, Nazis, and the holocaust.

  2. The James Webb Space Telescope successfully deployed its sunshade, probably the single most complex operation done in space, ever.
Next up is unfolding the mirrors, then it should be smooth sailing, or at least sailing in more familiar territory.

  3. I’ve been a KWS fan for a lot of years. Did you know his wife is Mel Gibson’s daughter?

When Kenny was just starting out, he did a blues tv travelogue show with Stevie Ray Vaughn’s Double Trouble. They travelled around the south playing blues with many of the blues legends (80+ years old). Here is the cd but you need to see the dvd:

Here he is playing Voodoo Child in 2007:

  4. Remember – in the US is in National Worse That Everything Ever Day.

Toss a coin to your local crazy guy wearing a buffalo horned hat. He might one day overthrow your entire government and take over, so best stay on his good side.

    1. Today I am channel-surfing about the news shows, and all the establishment talking heads are chattering about the January 6 confrontation. Dreary and eye rolling.

    1. This is the silver lining.
In deplorable country aka flyover aka not the MTV, there has always been a dearth of the trivial pursuits one is accommodated with in the urban centers.
The folks blessed in the frontier can live without a great deal of it whereas those in the metropolis’s will feel it’s a life altering event that their favourite show was canceled.
They might come to a realization about life in spite of “our betters” best efforts.

  5. Buddy of mine in Montana burned me a KWS CD about 6 years ago, and I listened to it all the way back to Colorado. Good stuff.

  6. This business of HRH and his latest hissy fit about getting covid jabs was totally out of line.
Check this article out, more here:
“The attempted shaming will stop. You will remain free, and they will remain trapped in a construct of their own making or that of someone else. But in the end, it’s a choice they’ve made and one you do not have to make. You do not need to give them that power over you.”

    1. Which means the new pill is NOT AN OPTION for me…. (High BP, High Cholesterol.)

Thanks for the tip. I was wondering if this new pill would be an alternative.

OK, so it’s back to the IVM.

      1. You better thoroughly research these ” pills ” from the ” not-vaccine ” makers.
They do alot more damage than the Clot shots.
How about a pill that rewrites your DNA and not in a good way.

    2. I read a report (Epoch times I think) tht the Indian government has refued to add it to it’s treatment protocol. Good for them. Uttar Pradesh has had a lot of success with Ivermectin and don’t need it.Rr

  7. I got back from yet another trip to my house in B. C. about 2 hours ago. The roads coming back weren’t as crappy as they were going there.

I watched the outside temperature at my truck. When I left it was below -30° and it never rose above -25 the entire way. Inside the cab, it was nice and warm.

Late last night, I wanted to see if my truck would start after I plugged it in earlier in the day. It was -39 in the back alley behind my house. The beast managed to cough its way to life.

      1. My beast coughed to life shortly before I was going to leave Fort St. John, but there was some soot and smoke at first. That’s to be expected when starting a diesel engine at such low temperatures. The fuel doesn’t flow as easily.

        1. Back in the day a colleague often called me in cold weather like the present asking for a ride to the office when her (diesel) Volkswagen Rabbit wouldn’t start. It never started in cold weather. I didn’t mind picking her up, I sort of expected her call. My reliable Ford did okay, I never plugged it in. Figured I didn’t want to spoil the beast which used regular gas. Perhaps diesel is more efficient for bigger vehicles?

          1. Diesel fuel is a light oil # 2, has more BTU’S than gasoline by weight, so provides more bang for your buck.
Downside is getting it to fire off in cold weather.
Gotta have good batteries, healthy compression, tip top glow plugs , a good fuel injection system, strong starter motor and a slightly thinner lubricant in the motor , preferably synthetic oil.
Being plugged in or having an on board Espar coolant heater helps immensely.

          2. My old Rabbit ran on gasoline and it could start in cold weather after being plugged in for about 2 hours, partly because it had a small engine block. My Golf needs more time, but it’s usually been good in winter, though I seldom drive it now.

The main reason that diesel engines are hard to start in weather like we have now is the fuel. Around -40° C, it starts solidifying because of the paraffin in it. The result is that the fuel can’t be properly atomized, which not only clogs the injectors but the droplets that are produced are larger and can’t be ignited as easily. The latter leads to incomplete combustion, producing the soot and smoke.

One reason why one sees trucks or locomotives idling is so that the fuel doesn’t cool off when those machines aren’t being used.

    1. Em, anyone who has taken a third shot is far too stupid to live. If they haven’t caught on by now they never will, just leave me the hell alone.

    1. Diesel fuel in Edmonton when I left on Sunday: $1.30/litre
      Refuelling in Grande Prairie: $1.42

It seems that for the past few weeks, the fuel price has been in a narrow range.

      1. Even starting rates with Yellow Cab went up to 5 bucks– sold my wheels — and wore out a pair of Civil War boots running the roads, err, rather, sidewalks! Ha! I don’t mind.

      2. Heard yesterday the price of gas is expected to go up another .20 cent/l in the immediate future.

Kazakhstan is rioting over the price of fuel (LNG)

    2. Turns out BITCOIN mining may have diverted so much energy from people and businesses that it caused the breaking point in Kazakhstan…

“The curtain just lifted on one of the many mysteries surrounding Bitcoin: How much is being produced using super-dirty coal in Kazakhstan. We knew that the Eurasian nation was a major destination for miners, and that the refugees recently expelled from China were flocking there.”

“President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev sacked his government and … shuttered the internet to interrupt communications among the opposition’s ranks…. A few hours into the outage a full 12% of Bitcoin’s worldwide computational power had vanished.”

      1. There’s more going on in Kazakhstan than meets the eye or ear.
Best to get ground reports from people directly on the scene.
This is about more than fuel and energy.
Covid is the main driving theme there and people are fed up with the control being imposed upon them much like the Solomon Islands and Guadeloupe.
The natives are restless, so cue the misinformation networks.

    3. I was trying to follow that story up. I expect fuel prices are an immediate cause but I suspect this is also being orchestrated by some external forces – an Eastern “Arab Spring”. Apparently an armoury was over-run and weapons distributed. That’s not what happens in spontaneous unorganized riots over food or gas prices.

    1. It’s their country, and it’s their rules. I would have been more upset if Djokovic would have been allowed entry despite his vax status while everyone else with a similar status is turned away.

As bad as these rules are, if they are to maintain ANY level of credibility, they must apply universally, or they shouldn’t be applied at all. I would opt for the latter.

Now, it’s up to the rest of us to condemn the Aussies for their rules. They should lose the Grand Slam event because of their rules.

    2. The Ashes are going on at the moment; absolute humiliation for England … again. They lost th ethird test by an INNINGS and 40 something runs.

  8. I tuned into City TV this morning to see how many diverse shootings and stabbings happened in diverse Toronto yesterday. They always start off their broadcast by recognizing that Toronto is on stolen indian land, and welcome indian viewers of “turtle Island”.

  9. What is PM Socks doing with his time these days to improve the lives of Canadians as we continue dealing with Covid protocol including shutdowns ?

Looking around, listening to the “news” it’s hard not to conclude we are reliving 2021 but with more vaccinations.
Too bad they are not totally effective, outsmarted by the virus strain they are supposed to kill.

  10. The first case of “Flurona” was detected in LA.

    https://www.nbclosangeles.com/news/coronavirus/southern-california-coronavirus/flurona-covid-coronavirus-covid-los-angeles-la-county/2791370/

This is a combination of the flu and coronavirus. No mention of “fatrona” the more popular cousin. It would be interesting to see the number of people sick where coronavirus is the secondary illness, as opposed to the only illness which IMHO is currently the style of reporting. Will never happen…

  11. The union for Ontario nurses is demanding a total shutdown of the province. All businesses must close. Because it has worked so well in the past I guess.

    1. Yeah, it’s a shame there’s no therapeutic out there that could be used as an early treatment, like Ivermectin, that could relieve this mess to return to some form of normalcy

      Oh wait………….

    1. It was an interesting read. Clearly what’s going on in this country (Canada) is appalling!

  12. CBC is excited that indians that went to day schools but lived at home, can get in on the cash grab from taxpayers. Apparently going to school like everybody else is cultural genocide or something.

  13. If you like Kenny Wayne Shepherd, look up a song called Shotgun Blues. It’s on my treadmill list…

  14. Nobody would have believed that in 2021 the USA would have a man with dementia as the president of the USA and an old California whore as the vice president, but then again we have a snowboard instructor as our leader
