  1. 40 Billion deal? What deal? Ain’t no taxpayer who got a deal out of this. There never is.
    And yes… I too find it criminal that after two years of lock downs and restrictions to save the health care system from being overwhelmed, that they have not increased capacity one iota. In my province not one single ICU bed has been added.

Lawyers will get a bunch, Chiefs will get a bunch, how much do you s’pose the Indians will realize? I’m betting pennies on the $.

        2. I recall that in past legal proceedings against the government, the bands did not use ANY of their own funds, lawyers were all paid by Ottawa. The bands said no, not really, the legal fees had to be reimbursed to government from the settlement.

          Which was BS, because lawyers don’t work for nothing and plaintiffs can lose. Which means two things – eventually any and all legal actions by natives against government will be successful, and the agreed payout will be increased to cover lawyer fees.

        33 years ago I put in a well and septic tank for about $3,000. I bet my annual cost is about $100 per year in power and maybe $100 in maintenance. Honeywagon every 10 or so years and a went through a couple pumps – end of story. It really doesn’t take $20 million dollars to make a water system for 1,000 people.

          1. Exactly! Many FN communities that had water systems installed are back on boil water advisory because nobody is willing to take on the job of keeping it running. It seems they figure that a water system comes with a permanent maintenance man…paid for by Ottawa of course.

Having to support three separate levels of losers in this “country” and all their bureaucratic clingers along with all the grifters that benefit from their association with this cabal, is kinda starting to be a bit of a sore point with me. (There is not a single political party in this county that is exempt from my contempt, they are all holes in the hull.)

  7. Despite all the treaties the aboriginals signed to cede their land to Canada, and despite the hundreds of billions that the taxpayers have given them, the aboriginals claim that they still own all the land. What a scam.

    1. My neighbour’s son lost his truck and my quad was stolen along with a bunch of tools. Neither of us got our property back despite one of the drunken pigs passing out at the scene until the cops showed up. Literally that’s all they did was show up. They were more interested in checking out my neighbour and me than they were the fucken redskins that stole our property and vandalized whatever they had to in order to commit the crimes. The Indians have nothing to lose but we do so they harass the shit out of us.

      1. Sadly your story is one of many. Everyone living close to a reserve is always in danger and usually getting victimized on regular basis. Those are low IQ animals that are above the law. And like have said, cops are of course much more interested in going after people who defend themselves than after criminals. Especially of the former are white and the latter aren’t.

        Long ago, any special status recognition and the entire reserve system should have ben abolished. Equal rights, end of story, period. And if some wanted to try a civil war over that, send in armed forces and treat them as terrorists. Those who aren’t worthless among them would benefit. Civilized ways are better than theirs in every respect.

        1. In 1980, Jean Chretien (of all people) authored a white paper arguing that the Indians should be given a one-time lump sum payout as “restitution” and then made full Canadian citizens with no special status or rights.

          I suppose even Liberals get something right once in a while.

  11. Why in hell didn’t the federal government put reserve education and child welfare fully in the hands of Indians 50 years ago when a significant portion became literate. I wonder how many hundreds of lives were saved by apprehending abused Indian kids. The government should write one monthly cheque to reserves and leave the mismanagement to them.

  13. The whole premise behind this deal is a fraud. There is no objective and accurate data to prove that aboriginal child welfare has been underfunded. This is why.

    Aboriginals get so much money in the way of grants and subsidies from so many different levels of government and agencies (which include, to name a few, the RCMP, the CBC, electrical utilities & phone companies) that it is impossible to sort out exactly how much is going to each individual service that the aboriginal communities receive. Further, taxpayers are not allowed to know how much money is flowing into each aboriginal reserve.

    Taxpayers can, however, examine the financial data for Nunavut which was created as a separate territory in 1999 to be a model of aboriginal self-government. The per capita annual funding from federal taxpayers to Nunavut has increased by 18% over the last eight years to $46,767 this year. Put another way, a family of four in Nunavut receives annual support of $187,068 from federal taxpayers. That compares to the per-capita funding from the federal government for all Canadians of $2,196. In short, federal funding per capita for Nunavut is over 20 times greater than the average for all Canadians. How meaningful, then, would any claim be that Nunavut is underfunded in one given area of government services?

    The weird thing about Indians is that they make up the hardest working people I’ve ever met in my life as well as the laziest.

  16. My family is FN and we have a FN foster child too. Where can we find access to this money? It feels like by the time the money goes through the politicians, lawyers, administrators, chiefs family, there’s little left for anyone else.

  18. Thinking here, which activity is dangerous, must admit, this is basically an enterprise of the bottom feeders.
    There are of course bottom feeders on the side of the rulers and on the side of aggrieved. As it is in both cases, those that have nothing to do with any of this are stuck with the gigantic bill.
    The rulers being a group of useless idiots that somehow hoodwinked the ruled to let it do it to them. Well, they did it to 30%, the other 40% are those that cared and will not support the bullshit and then you have the rest that for all practical purpose amount to nothing more but surplus of nothing. Yeah, today you only need small minority to rule over you.
    As for the natives, take it easy. It can be said that the whole mess is a white man’s doing, not even including white women. The English made the treaties, were the government, to this day the English Queen is the head of the whatever they call Canada. This is not a judgement, it simply is what it is.
    You can probably find the Treaty 7, if I’m not mistaken, down at the reservation in the town of Stand Off, right there along the highway on a big billboard like sign. You can probably find the document somewhere in the dungeons of government. It actually says that the Queen or the crown will look after them until the sun does not come up, in more prosaic language.
    The natives were played every bloody time, the governments throwing at them other people’s money, lots and lots of money. As soon as the money was used up, just rehash and repeat. That is the easiest way of low life scum politicians to avoid what they see as problems.
    Remember when Harper wanted to do something final, the bottom feeders could not have that, could not have the gravy train to stop.
    Hmm … $40 billion, how much do you think will pour down on the individual native through the sieves of government thieves, the bottom feeders, the chiefs and their families.
    This government throws around billions and billions, as Sagan would say, without another thought of what it’s going to do.
    Now just watch, after the $40 bill are gone, then the whole circus will start over again, the only difference will be a bigger payout.

  19. Not one regular reserve resident will see a red cent. The Chiefs and Council will grab it and run. Since the accountability requirement was removed, the residents have no recourse.

    1. Actually I believe each ‘deserving’ individual will get their $40,000. For the most part that money will be squandered within a few weeks or even days. Then they will be whining for more saying it wasn’t enough for the great harm inflicted by whitey policies.

      1. My mother said something similar when Treaty 8 was settled some 20 or so years ago. A lot of natives in B. C. got a nice 5-figure payout but she didn’t think that money would last long or go far.
