The “sorting” the author references is exactly why my new home of Sioux Falls, SD, is a booming city. We left the imploding shithole of the Twin Cities for the sanity of SD.
Drove thru Minny-sota in 2011, Duluth enroute to Sioux Falls, the poles were shutting down all the highway rest stops and parks due to budget restraints/unresolved budget limits/government stalemate. Weird seeing so many orange traffic cones on Interstates.
Sioux Falls quaint. Grocery store nearest the public campground had an antique three-wheel JD tractor in the produce dept display.

And in B.C. and Victoria specifically, they are tearing out the ‘colonial and settler’ exhibits that made the Royal B.C. Museum one of the most popular and visited museums of it’s size in the world. Out go the ‘turn of the 19th Century town front street’, the mining exhibits, the logging and fishing exhibits that portrayed what made the province wealthy and successful. Perhaps it was the contrast with the ‘Indigenous Exhibits’ showing that life had not particularly changed over thousands of years – until the Europeans arrived to ultimately improve their living standards.
Meanwhile, they’re focusing on the indigenous 34 languages of B.C., with their odd and unpronounceable mixtures of capital letters, numbers, symbols and grammatical flourishes that never before existed because they had no written language.
Also meanwhile, as they disassemble and store the monetarily successful dioramas and exhibits of the evil white man, they admit they haven’t yet given any thought as to what they will replace it with – other than it has to have more ‘aboriginal flavour’. Classic ‘go woke, go broke’. Except in this case, there’s no going broke because public tax money will replace all of the former, freely spent tourism dollars.
