  1. Yeah, more movies…..

Tripoli, starring John Payne and Maureen O’Hara:

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1XZZnWMP4CU

It’s the story (or, at least, Hollywood’s version of it) behind the phrase “the shores of Tripoli” from the Marine Corps Hymn. It’s OK, but not outstanding.

Yangtse Incident (also titled Battle Hell), starring Richard Todd and William Hartnell:

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tHM7heoAmlU

This is based on an actual incident that occurred during the Chinese revolution. The Royal Navy frigate H. M. S. Amethyst was fired upon by Chinese communist artillery located on the banks of the Yangtse. Several crew members were killed and the ship ran aground.

The movie is about how the survivors succeeded in re-floating the ship and escaping. The portrayal of the events was authentic due to using Amethyst itself (which was damaged during filming) with the officer played by Todd acting as advisor.

    1. One more flick.

North West Frontier (also known as Flame Over India), starring Kenneth More, Lauren Bacall, and Herbert Lom:

      https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gn_KIuZvJPk

One commenter on IMDB likened it to Stagecoach, directed by John Ford. That may not have been coincidental as one of the writers was his son Patrick.

The locomotive should interest train spotters and model engine enthusiasts.

    2. I remember serving Richard Todd as a commis waiter over 60 years ago. He was a real gentleman

    3. A friend’s father served in the Royal Navy and was decorated by the Queen for bravery in the Yangtze incident…which I had never known until I read it in his obituary. He was an incredible person and a testament to the phrase “they don’t make ’em like that any more”.

      1. A number of decorations were awarded as a result of Amethyst. According to IMDB, the ship’s telegrapher received a medal for remaining on duty for several days without sleep.

Also, the ship’s cat was given one by the People’s Dispensary for Sick Animals in the U. K. for, among other things, helping with crew morale. He was wounded during the incident and later died as a result of complications. The ship’s company attended his funeral.

  2. https://www.courtlistener.com/docket/61641805/coomer-v-make-your-life-epic-llc/

Eric Coomer – formerly of Dominion – is suing Clay Clark and the “Reawaken America” tour.

In related news, it appears Joe Oltmann (who started all of this Dominion nonsense by claiming he was on an antifa call where Eric Coomer said he guaranteed a Biden win) has committed perjury by lying a out when a screenshot was taken. He claims it was 9/26. But the Google doodle is from the middle of November. Whoops. This after his “notes during the call” were a complete bust. He has zero evidence of any antifa call ever existing, never mind Coomer saying what Oltmann claims he did.

Just another grifter in a long list of grifters.

    1. BA, I did indeed see an idiot in that piece. How the hell is it that people can be told over and over and over that vaxxes cannot prevent infection, transmission, illness or death yet continue to act as if the shots they have take are actually “vaccines”, when we know they are not.

      1. According to FNC’s Medical Contributor, Dr. Marty Makary, the “covid booster shot” question will now be simply put as, “are you up-to-date?” Seems they don’t like calling it a “booster shot.” Looks like they plan on having this hang around for awhile.

  3. I think it’s time to pray for the people of the Ukraine. I don’t think Putin is bluffing.

    1. If he does that, then we can expect China to move on Taiwan. Biden will, as he usually does, mumble and take no action.

      1. Joe Biden replied to Chinese and Russian threats this morning to dominate the world.

“Always Consider Cabbage Patched Kids, Barbie and Ken dolls. ”
“Remember to close sliding glass windows.”

        Good Advice,
        Good Advice.

    2. Oh please. Putin doesn’t want all of Ukraine. Too many headaches. He wants the eastern slices which are majority ethnic Russian, and he wants NATO out of Ukraine. By pushing Putin, the NATO neo-cons are just making things worse, as those morons always do. Want world peace? Hang all the fucking neo-cons.

    3. Look, another Soros-bot!
Pray that NATO stops putting missile batteries capable of striking Moscow at the Russia border.

  4. Natural Resources minister Jonathan Wilkinson’s wife bought Lockeed stock 5 weeks after he was sworn into cabinet.

    https://twitter.com/hollyanndoan/status/1473998668479045634?s=20

If I recall she also owned stocks in Enbridge…while he was environment minister. The hypocrisy knows no bounds.

This man has done nothing but leech off the public teat (he used to be a big executive for a company that was funded by govt grants) and now his wife is looking to get rich Nancy Pelosi style.

    1. Lowlife gangsters… Wilkinson also worked for Saskatchewan Commie, Roy the Romanow. Romanow was one of the best when it came to grifting the public treasury.
Remember that scam where Jean the Cruton hired his good buddy Romanow the commie to ” find out whats going wrong with the healthcare system and then fix that healthcare system for a generation”… remember that scam ? That was a good one.
Wilkingson is a scum bag, Chinas man in North Van.
      A real creep.
North Van was once a Conservative and Reform party riding, and then the Liberals replaced the population.
Ran across Chinas man Wilkenson one time at a London Drugs, just glared at the arrogant little prick, he and his wife smelled of sulfur.

  5. Here we are, another Christmas Eve and the flow of insanity, evil and lies just continues to unfold. Jesus we have become pathetic examples of God’s creation.
For any who can force their minds to function, I wish you a MERRY CHRISTMAS.
My daughter in law informed my wife that she wants me to take a covid test to go there for Christmas dinner. Looks like we eat at home. I have not talked to my son, I guess he will get the message when we don’t show up.
    MERRY CHRISTMAS, once again.

    1. Good grief, you are better off abstaining said event if that is her attitude. My mother-in-law-spit sent my husband of 35 years a cheque for 10.000 to spend on his bucket list. With a warning, not to spend one cent on me. What a lovely lovely person.

    2. The grandparents, us, host our family gathering. Our nephew called and said he has tested positive so two less at the table. We plan to take them a plate of turkey dinner from the leftovers tomorrow. Put them on the ground in front of their apartment door and run.

      1. A good blend of common sense and togetherness (to not needlessly aggravate things). Don’t forget to make a face-time call sometime during dinner so they can still share part of the moment.

    3. MERRY Christmas My friend…..I’m in similar boat. At least my two girls – even though vaxxed would never dream of not Invitingor coming to mom n dads place. This year we are going to one of their places tomorrow….First time one of them hosted Christmas Day/Dinner etc..!!

Kewl – No clean up for us…LOL.!
But we will all help of course.
      Cheers VOWG..
Have a shot of Grand Marnier on me..!!

    1. In a store yesterday and people were leaning away from me as we passed in an aisle. I thought I was imagining it until my woman told me she witnessed samey same.
      Chinadians are ignorant chicken-shits.
But their elected “leaders” and appointed “experts” are totalitarian sub-humans.

      1. I’ve been walking about un masked for over 3 months now…always notice I get the same barely averted looks in Walmart, Cdn Tire, Shoppers etc.
(shhh, did you see that guy.?? he WASN’T WEARING A MASK..!!)

It’s at the point now, I don’t even have to say I’m exempt…the door folks know me by sight…IMAGINE THAT EH..???

…………..its what happen’s when you don’t cover half your freaking FACE.!!!

  6. This morning the Global propaganda radio, CHQR, news reader read that Kenney said something about Wuhan virus, though he would not say what it was.
A character named Woo Paw, obviously an agent of Chinese communists, complained that it was racist.
Heh, the power of Chinese propaganda reaches deep into the media cartel.
    Yes, sir! How deep?

    1. Won’t be tracking me no more…when I’m out n about.
      Faraday Pouch in use.

Cheap on Amazon and it seemingly works.

      1. A full aluminumum foil wrap will work just as well, but will look a little odd when you pull it out of your pocket. Just remember that anywhere you can pick up a signal, they can pick up yours.

  7. a little off topic, but it looks like Alec Baldwin is home free. It has been over three months since the shooting and the incident is yesterday’s news. I was going to say that Alec would have to live with this on his conscience but then I remembered he does not have one. I suspect this incident will not be added to his resume.

      1. Theo, you saved me. Felt lousy. Great tip: Benadryl worked like a charm when Tylenol cold tabs did nothing. I had a 24 hr bug a few days ago and by chance stocked up on your suggestion merely because I had never tried them. Thanks.

  8. So sad for WestJet employees:
Watch “Viral WestJet ‘Christmas Miracle’ video creator discusses airline’s hypocrisy”
    https://youtu.be/I5GDKdqJaco

I’m sure you are aware that the same people who own WestJet also own Chapters/Indigo Bookstores. Nice Peopleskind. Staff there are borderline sassy to clients about masks. So sick of this, so passé, I tell them politely, masks do nothing. I get blank stares.

    1. I’m sure you are aware that the same people who own WestJet also own Chapters/Indigo Bookstores.

WestJet is now owned by Onex, having been privatized and de-listed from the TSX two years ago. Onex is run by Gerry Schwartz.

Chapters/Indigo is still trades as an independent company on the market. Mrs. Schwartz, AKA Heather Reisman, is the CEO. Onex apparently financed Indigo’s takeover of Chapters nearly 20 years ago. As far as I know, that’s the only connection the bookstore may have with WJ.

As far as WJ’s lousy attitude, I saw that several years ago while it was still being traded on the TSX. One time, when I was dissatisfied with some of the service I received, I mentioned to some of its employees that I was a shareholder. I got an “Up yours, mate” type of response in return. That’s quite a change from more than a dozen years ago when staff were proud to know that they were working for a fellow part owner if one mentioned it.

Sadly, that kind of mentality is far too prevalent nowadays, as I sometimes find out from places like a bank. It just doesn’t sink in that the employees aren’t just there to earn a paycheque. They’re working for the interests of the people who actually own the outfit, regardless of how much.

      1. Precisely. There has been “quite a change,” as you say, in the service at the couple’s seperate businesses since their new acquisitions. Regardless, I wouldn’t want to be them.

There’s merit in being single, unattached, free as a bird, and devoid of the hassles they must have. To each his own.

  9. Thanks for the tips on how to keep the smoke going up the chimney when you run your fireplace. No fireplace out here at the trap shack – it’s wood stove all the way. The smoke goes up the chimney.

I’m looking after a large Malamute named Lulu. Outside in the snow there is a wrestling match going on between her and Shot Jackson. They almost knocked the shop off its foundation when they accidentally hit it…

Getting close to eggnog time. Listening to Ray Charles and Betty Carter doing ‘Baby it’s Cold Outside’.

    Merry Christmas to all

    1. Hey, Abtrapper,
New neighbours next door are temporarily looking after a black lab, she wakes me up every morning, a darling but bad- jumped all over me when I went over for a visit. Yeah, it’s -10 here. Listening to music from Sting!

Have a good one — a Merry Christmas to you too.

    2. None of my parents’ dachshunds particularly liked snow. For one thing, their feet would get cold and, second, having such short legs, so would their bellies if it was too deep.

All the dogs, except for my canine step-brother, were females. As my mother noted, he had an extra reason for not liking snow…..

  10. Almost forgot:

Happy Christmas everyone, and a special thank you to our host Kate.

      1. ‘Twas the poems that got me,
        All tied up with glee,
        No more TV to see,
        Until I finish my tea,
And now my eyes can’t see.

What else can I do for that is me,
        I give praise to thee,
        As you can see,
        And thanks maybe,
        From me to thee.

        1. Well, well, who’d have thought that you were actually a composer of couplets? I tip my hat in thanks.

Being a listener to some amateur radio podcasts, of which there are plenty, one or two of the ham versions of the poem are dusted off and read on them at this time of year.
