Sorry … Education Funding levels have nothing to do with quality of education. There are more “urban” school districts with horrific test scores and graduation rates receiving MORE $$ … a LOT MORE $$$ … than successful suburban school districts. Sorry … it’s the parents, and the intact families that make all the difference.
I was somewhat surprised and definitely dismayed to learn how black students, in particular, demonized any fellow black students that were aspiring to learn and and make something of their lives by applying themselves in school.
My understanding is that this is now pretty much baked into black urban youth culture. If true, I think it is yet another example of progressive blacks in America being their own worst enemies. Add that to the millions of low-income, single-parent households you highlighted, and what chance do some of these kids even have?
They are intentionally dooming themselves to a dependent lifestyle, or criminal careers … up until they die in a hail of bullets at age 24. Not to worry though … as we are dumbing-down the educational standards to “meet these kids where they are”.

My wife and I have watched HGTV and Terick Elmusa doing remodeling of homes in California.
We are blown away at the cost of a little piece of junk home and the the resale value that he gets after said remodeling.

Terick bought the piece of junk home for $600,000.00 . Put in maybe another $300,000.00
Made $100,000.00 profit for 3 months work.

My own remodel was subject to “Design Review” approval. A $6k fee, and the DRC shrank my garage by 2ft for no good reason. And in order to pass my framing inspection, the city has to approve my “night sky” light fixtures, my final exterior materials and colors, and certify that my “tree protection” measures are still in place. My next door neighbor has no such restrictions on his project … nor do any of my neighbors. It’s a complete violation of any constitutional “equality” laws or rules
My total permit fees were > $12k … and that did not include any “school district developer fees” because I added 50% of the walls of my home … I would have to add/retrofit a fire sprinkler system at > $5.00/sq.ft. Thankfully, I didn’t.
Building in CA is arbitrarily expensive and officious.
Democrats or Liberals aren’t in the least interested in helping others. It’s power they crave and touchstones like housing, education, taxation equity helps keep that power by making sure those problems never get solved and stuffs their pockets in the meantime.
