      This man concludes, probably rightfully so, that it is the ULTRA-Rare special Nimbus Pressing. If you could even FIND a copy of it for sale, it would cost $ Thousands.00. I haven’t EVER found one for sale. Me? I find my 1982 Japanese Pressing on DEAD QUIET special red vinyl to be the BEST in my collection.

      And yes … you HAVE to ONLY listen to the MONO version of this lp. John Lennon spent weeks getting the MONO sound perfect for this song … and George Martin converted it to Stereo in an hour and gave the tape to … gawwwwwwd … Columbia Records. Don’t buy ANY of the Columbia labeled STEREO versions of this lp.

      I wish I had a dedicated MONO cartridge to play this lp … but have to resort to the MONO mode on my Mcintosh C2200 pre amp.

      1. I am spinning my 1982 Japanese disc right now … dead black background … and perfectly balanced sound. Yes, in MONO mode. Plenty of bass, perhaps could use a bit more kick drum lows … but I attribute most of that to the mix (and my mid-range dominant Spendor S-100’s). Each cut has its sonic signature, but most bring the vocals forward (rightly so). And the bass (both electric and stand-up acoustic) is very forward … surely at Paul’s insistence. Another example of the musicians MIXING the sound is ‘Getting Better’ where the Sitar is brought VERY forward, then recesses back into the mix. Yeah, the Beatles were twiddling the knobs on the old analog mixing console. Which is why you simply HAVE to listen to THEIR MONO mix … not the bastardized George Martin stereo remix.

        The sound is really ALL about the studio mix. Each song is treated so distinctly differently (thanks, John). ‘When I’m sixty four’ is so amazingly clear that you can hear the clarinet reeds wobble. Then on ‘Good Morning, Good Morning’ the cacophony of Sound just blows you out of the room and … well … wakes you the hell up! And I must say there are very few rock lp’s with the depth and complexity of instrumentation as Sgt. Pepper’s … good gawd … harps, cellos, strings, electronic manipulations, sitar, harpsichord, upright bass, every percussion instrument ever invented including; Mridanga and Tabla.

        And yes … my 1982 Japanese Pressing has the frantic voices in the beginning of the runout on side two … Proving the pressings were made faithfully from the original studio tapes.

      2. I was staying at a cousins place when they bought the record. We all liked it but I don’t remember the record getting played much. I guess our tastes were less sophisticated then but just look at some of the music that you could buy in that era. Even the Monkee’s had some catchy tunes and cleverly crafted lyrics.
        There seemed to be no end to good songs in that 1967/1968 era.

  6. Camrose is a small Alberta city roughly 1 1/2 hr drive SE of Edmonton. Prosperous farming area. I moved (fled/escaped) from Edmonton to Camrose County to retire a few years ago. Love it. Anyone care to comment on this letter to the editor?

    Small towns
    November 9, 2021
    It’s no news that, sadly, many small towns are dying. But perhaps it should be news to them that the majority of Alberta’s population lives in the two big urban centres and those municipalities have just rejected dysfunctional conservative politicians in favor of those with more progressive collaborative attitudes.
    If you are born in a stubbornly conservative-voting rural area, you are probably accustomed to backwards belligerent small-minded politics. That is why so many move away from small centres, and few are drawn to deliberately move to a backwards-thinking place if they don’t have to.
    In other words, it is conservative politics that are killing rural areas, and I am suggesting that, before rural folks whine about their dwindling populations, whether they like it or not, they need to address the reality of how dysfunctional and unproductive conservative politics are in this modern world. And perhaps open their minds to the possibility that there are better ways to be governed.

    2. People are leaving rural Canada because Bay Street has made it impossible to make an honest living in agriculture. Simple as that.

      Get back to me when Camrose farmers are driving Cadillacs and people with names like Evone Monteith are a healthy weight again, because they have to do an honest day’s work before they get to stuff their faces.

    3. One thing one shouldn’t do in the Camrose area is to betray the political beliefs of the people.

      I used to know the chap who eventually became the MLA there as we both attended what used to be Camrose Lutheran College many years ago. He was the epitome of the local boy made good. He became a lawyer and opened an office in town. He ran for political office and was eventually a member of Alison Dreadful’s cabinet.

      But, after she was sacked, her successor was Jim Prentice. He guaranteed that Rotten Rachel would be elected and even my former acquaintance was among those MLAs given the heave-ho.

      Conservatives, beware. Any betrayal of the electorate in places such as Camrose is not easily or readily forgiven.

  7. Bad flooding and mudslide scenario in southwestern BC and the storm is heading for Alberta on Monday. Expect it to be very mild anywhere south of Red Deer with a strong chinook turning into a damaging windstorm in some places by late in the afternoon, Lethbridge could see gusts to 120 km/hr. Eventually this turns into a 5-10 cm snowfall event for SK and MB Tuesday or Wednesday morning further east.

    Unlike most Pacific lows, this one is going to deepen rapidly inland so anyone reading this in valleys of south central and southeast BC expect a mild day followed by very strong winds around late afternoon (W-NW) and falling temps just a bit of snow with that, most of the snow we had around here on Saturday will have melted by the end of the mild rainy spell Monday.

    The chinook will be quite warm for a time, could hit 25 C near the border and in eastern Montana, with a sudden drop in temperature by late afternoon. It is currently nearly 70 F in parts of Idaho at midnight. So even before this air mass downslopes it is already very warm.

    I filled up my truck’s tank in Edmonton at $1.32/litre. I refuelled in Grande Prairie for $1.38. By comparison, gasoline was roughly $0.10 more just about everywhere I checked.

    1. Once I got to Fort St. John last night, I learned what its real priorities are.

      The municipal workers couldn’t clear the sidewalk (I went ker-splat on my back as a result–passers-by might have learned a few new words) but the government dope store (which I passed by on my way to get cash from my bank) was open.

      I checked its schedule. It’s open every day of the week and from 9 AM to 9 PM on Sundays.

Years from now dissertations will be written about the extent of manipulation used against us by the proponents of this Scamdemic.

  17. I remember when Sgt. Pepper’s came out. We spent hours trying to figure out what the cover was about, let alone trying to understand some of the songs. Three or four of us, sitting in a room, listening to music. Do kids even do that nowadays?
