  1. If you Zoom and Enhance(tm) you can see the pilot was not wearing a mask!

    BAD PILOT!!!! BAD PILOT!!!!

    /snark 🙂

    1. I happened to turn on a traffic cam one time and caught my son going by, about 70 miles away.

  2. Any landing you can walk away from is a good one. (Told to me first by a northern bush pilot.)

  3. Geez…he could just have easily hit that highway signage beam thingy. *Memo; launder underwear*

  4. All told, a remarkable feat of piloting. Well done under extraordinary circumstances.

And the plane staying in one piece was just a coup-de-grace. I don’t think even Sullenberger and Jeffrey Skiles could have done better.

    1. And yet no-one seems to know how to merge, let alone get out of the way for an emergency vehicle. From the look of it he almost had a convertible.

  5. A great landing…

What people will do to avoid tolls!!!

They need a new toll rate for light aircraft now though, and that’s the plane truth…

  6. It is what is called a forced approach – something that students have to practice, and demonstrate on their flight test.

Assuming that it was an engine problem, as was reported, then the pilot did what he was trained to do. Landing on a highway like that is a good choice: wide, reasonably straight, few obstacles. The other point is that any traffic is travelling at a similar speed to the landing plane. My plane, for example lands at around 125 – 130 km/hr, that’s airspeed, so a headwind will lower that somewhat. That means the pilot could effectively merge with the traffic.

A good job, and I hope I never have to do that myself.

  7. This is what a Gripen could do but not that piece of crap the F-35. No airport required, can land anywhere in Canada, of course we’ll not stock up on them because, ‘USA !, USA !’ Liberal Governments would wait until doomsday before deciding on acquiring new hardware.
Hot air balloons powered by Liberal hype answer the call to go green.

  8. Beautiful landing…..wonder if the plane will be charged both landing fees and highway toll charges.

    1. Toll charges, as imposed by the 407 bandits, will break the bank. I assume the pilot was flying out of Buttonville.

About ten years ago, I was driving east on Hwy 401 in Scarborough. The weather had just closed in big time and the ceiling was below the abutting condominium apartments near McCowan. I looked and there was a small plane heading west following the 401 just above the highway lights and below the apartments. Pretty clever I thought as visibility at any safe altitude was zero so the pilot was following the 401 west to Hwy 404 and then north to Buttonville which is beside the 404. I expect a change in underwear was in order.
