No Canadian or US troops would go outside Kabul airport to rescue a group of stranded translators and their families.
Two previous efforts, planned by the Canadian military before its departure from Kabul airport, failed to get Mr. Sharaf’s group into the airport, as did another attempt organized by the U.S. State Department. Those operations had relied on the Afghans and their families being able to reach designated meeting points near the airport gates, which proved impossible amid the chaos outside the facility, where thousands of Afghans have congregated in hopes of being airlifted out of Kabul, which fell to the extremist Taliban on Aug. 15.
The Ukrainian operation succeeded where others had collapsed because the Ukrainian military deployed special forces troops into the city on foot to conduct the rescue.
The evacuees said they were stunned that Ukrainian troops had taken risks to save them that Canadian and U.S. forces had not.
“Everybody was surprised. I tried for the last month to have someone get us. We asked the Americans, the Canadians, the Qataris, everybody – and no solution. They were scared to come out,” said Jawed Haqmal, a 33-year-old father of four who worked two years with Canadian special forces in Kandahar. “The Ukrainian soldiers were angels for us. They did an exceptional job. They have big hearts.”
Our leaders couldn’t even organize a garage sale these days. I imagine there’s all sorts of people in our military who are both pissed off and embarrassed at not being allowed to do their jobs when it matters most.

Well according to New York Post reporting on Operation Pineapple some American soldiers did ignore orders to wade into the sewage ditch and get people out or go out beyond the gate but they were under orders to not leave the airport. I know from a personal report it was the same with Canadians.
The Yanks left several hundred American citizens behind (if you can believe the official numbers) and apparently droned a family of 9 including 6 children. Look for military suicides to spike, although that information might get ignored or suppressed as ‘classified information’. It’s not not like the press is curious or anything.
It isn’t that the Canadian, American, or UK military isn’t capable of bringing citizens out of Afghanistan.
It is a political decision from the civilian politicians, and the upper echelon (flag officers) of military who chose to not risk the military on the ground.
The Ukrainians are not apparently bound by Canadian, American, or UK political cowardice on this file. Nor the “rules of engagement” which hamstrung the western militaries.
Need to blame someone? Start with Biden, Trudeau, or Boris.
I believe the UK and even the French were sending out patrols to bring in people. It was all over the news the 82nd Airborne Division commander telling his UK counterpart to stop going outside the wire and bringing people in because it was making them (US forces) look bad.
What a disgrace the people of this country have become.
Don’t worry, Justin is just a few weeks away from apologizing to the Taliban…
Anybody that burns churches is a friend of Justin’s.
how many of the canadian and american soldier have two mums or two dads.. gives you a different reason to be scared .
This is what happens when the world blows up during an election.
Afraid to be the leader when soldiers get killed the leader tells his troops to run away and hide.
Do not despair – the fact that we had to rely on Ukraine to do the right thing for us will remind us of the true nature of the small potato leading us.
