Several impounded dogs due to be rescued by a shelter have instead been shot dead by a rural council in NSW under its interpretation of COVID-19 restrictions, alarming animal activists and prompting a government probe.
Bourke Shire Council, in the state’s north-west, killed the dogs to prevent volunteers at a Cobar-based animal shelter from travelling to pick up the animals last week, according to council’s watchdog, the Office of Local Government.
“OLG has been informed that the council decided to take this course of action to protect its employees and community, including vulnerable Aboriginal populations, from the risk of COVID-19 transmission,” a spokesman from the government agency said.
The shelter was located in a region of Australia where there are no COVID cases. But quick thinking there, dragging out Aboriginals as human shields.
A sad commentary. But that incident will likely smarten up the Aussies faster than anything else. “It’s okay to put grampa down but don’t you dare harm those furry critters.”

I note the TOTAL lack of mention (and thus, use) of “inverter beds” These were once used to assist patients with severe respiratory “clogging”. Gravity drains the lungs (MESSY), but air can then get to the still-functioning parts of the lung where it is required.and respiration (and life) can continue..

They then used a crane to place concrete blocks – the sort used to make temp road closures during road works – on the highest points of the skating area.
One – that is a real dick move to deny youth access
Two – they were placed in such a way that people could still use the other 90% of the area for skating

Three – IT IS LEGAL UNDER AUSTRALIAN WORK COVER HEALTH AND SAFETY LAWS.
Large concrete blocks placed at the high point of a structure that are not otherwise secured. They are a blatant crushing risk when some angry 13 year old decides to push them out of the way and they topple. There are LAWS AGAINST THAT. Children have died in very similar situations. Risk reduction here in Oz is based on the As So Far As Is Reasonably Practical principle. Or, if you can make it safer and it is ‘reasonably practical’ to do so, you do so or get legally worked over by Work Cover.
