This was completely different. The guy had cardiac arrest on the field. He collapsed without even being touched. Tavares was not in danger of death, he had a concussion and a knee injury. The closest thing in the NHL was Rich Peverley or Jay Bouwmeester.
Guess what? When Bouwmeester collapsed on the bench, the NHL cancelled the rest of the game.
When Peverley collapsed on the bench, the game was postponed.
No difference. Both had heart attacks, just like Eriksen. Just like Eriksen, both survived thanks to immediate medical intervention. Just like Eriksen, the game was postponed. In fact, in Eriksen’s case, the game was resumed 90 minutes later, so I guess soccer players are tougher?
Shocking news! Eriksen is a superb player and still a key component to Denmark’s National Team. I’m praying that the medical staff find the cause, and hope it was simply some transitory interruption in his heart rate. To be honest, I’m surprised more incidents like this don’t happen in top level soccer. The pace and the physicality of the game at that level simply pushes the human body to its limits. Sorry American footballers … it’s not all falling down and pretending to be injured in the penalty area. Even though these are the FITTEST athletes in all of sport … they push to themselves to the absolute limits.
Oh … and the COVID connections? I’d say it’s nonsense he had a “non-clinical” case of COVID that scarred his heart muscle. But we shall see, eh?
