PS Knight Publishes Two New Codes

Today, we published the Oil and Gas Pipeline Systems Code. And we also published the previous edition of that Code, for those in need of legacy versions. And we also published the Propane Storage and Handling Code for 2015. And we’re quite pleased about all this.

Each of these codes have been passed into law in Alberta. Thanks to the Canadian Standards Association (“CSA” / the Civil Service), PS Knight was recently compelled to relocate to the US. In the United States, the Supreme Court has already Ruled that public laws cannot be privately owned.

So, engineers and other professionals needing to access these laws don’t have to pay CSA’s sky-high prices anymore.

PS Knight’s prices are less than half of CSA’s prices.

  1. Is it any wonder we import everything?
Too many laws that our governments impose makes everything illegal…

Our current situation with Healthcare workers is getting worse as again we impose too many laws that you need to be educated to fart properly…
They can’t find anyone who wants to work in this field as the Healthcare scare and regulations have increased even more. There was a huge shortage beforehand only getting worse now.
    Ops, my bad.
Just pointing out that it is illegal to work in Canada as everything needs training and certificates.
How’s this not a huge problem in Canada?
Investment fleeing this country at an alarming pace as more and more restrictions and regulations imposed.

  2. How long before some regulatory agency in Canada rules those publications cannot be allowed into Canada?

  3. I provide propane handling courses regularly and recently we faced a similar issue. The ‘institute’ that issues certification had become top heavy with bureaucrats that had no actual foundation or understanding of the industry – but they were good at what bureaucrats do: over-regulate, obfuscate and inflate costs, all with the blessing of the industry association itself.

We’re now using another certification body and find things less expensive, more efficient and streamlined and with a tiny and more responsive staffing level. The previous regulatory body did the same thing as CSA: they contacted our customers with the same tactics, laying threats and untruths, suggesting the same people who had been training for years were somehow now unqualified and dangerous.

Their tactic hasn’t worked and now both our trainers and customers are much happier.

  4. Junk the CSA and the CRTC, and 50% of the civil service and we will all be happier.

    1. CC

      Could not Agree more.

I’ve had to deal with (over the past 40 yrs), a supposed “Non Profit”…..the Canadian Welding Bureau and ensuing CSA Codes on all things: Boilers – Piping – Pipelines – Structural Steel etc.
      SCUMBAG outift IMO.

And the only one worth noting is W59 (Steel construction).
fer Process Piping we use ASME B31.3
fer Boiler Piping we use ASME B31.1
fer Boilers/Press Vessels we use ASME Sect VIII
fer Steel Classification we use ASME Sect II A,B C
fer NDE we use ASME Sect V along with a few other regulatory agencies
fer Pipelines we actually use CSA Z662 but that has been pretty much supplanted by API 1169.
      Fer Provincial Regulation: ABSA.

      None of which are “cheap”
Nothing but an Expensive recurring TAX on Private Business all in the name of safety.

Meh…I always managed to acquire Current copies of any and all of the above….at NO Cost.

  5. It’s not just corruption within the CSA that Knight has exposed – it’s our whole judicial system. I started out thinking it was one or two judges, but no – our whole legal system has as much respectability behind it as the “profession” of journalism does. 100% complete sham.

    1. Yup. Plus that QC/NB beer case. Lots of little pieces adding up to deep, systemic flaws.

Back in the day, my dad did open my eyes somewhat with the “it’s not a justice system, it’s a legal system, and it’s what you can prove” statement, but it seems like it’s getting worse and worse, to the point that it’s probably no longer about what you can prove, but how the judge feels that day.

  6. Awesome. I’ve been waiting for PS Knight to start selling other Laws that CSA sells

  7. I find this very confusing. All the more reason to shut down most government spread into all areas of our lives.

  8. I’ve used Knight electrical handbook for home wiring. Great resource. Easy to read, diagrams, way simpler than “official” code.
