I had a girlfriend once who asked me why I liked (nay, loved) a band that had such snarky, sarcastic lyrics. She was really put off by Steely Dan, and esp. Donald Fagan’s lyrics and voice. Yeah … I ended it soon thereafter. And she could go back to listening to girl acts singing about preteen angst.

Show business kids makin movies of themselves
You know they don’t give a fuck about anybody else

A prescient Lyric written long before the cell phone selfie generation

          2. @10:49 kenji– “Show Biz Kids” is cool.
Your long lost Gf didn’t give steely dan a chance. They’re a cross between jazz and soft rock, right? As for their lyrics, they obviously liked women, booze and light drugs. What else is there? There’s really no comparing them to anyone else. Most bands don’t endure too long on the music scene, something about ownership, royalties and getting screwed by the record companies. Alledgedly the money is in concerts and T shirt sales etc. They didn’t do that many gigs. Not their style.

I listened to Donald Fagan’s many interviews online last winter. Try them sometime. He’s a no b.s. kind of guy. It’s all about the music.

            Here’s that girl song:

Watch “steely dan – josie” on YouTube

          1. B A.
Terrific silent film era music and 30s ish mood music. Makes me want to watch some golden oldies from the pre-code era where they had risqué wardrobes and crime themes to suit the demand.

      1. I don’t know why, I wouldn’t use Cuervo gold to clean paintbrushes. It’s for people who don’t know anything about tequila, I guess.

        1. The lyric wouldn’t work as … ‘Patron’

Cuervo gives me a splitting headache. Nothing but 100% agave anejo tequila.., please

        2. Ed–never tried it either.
It was meant to go with the “fine Columbian” as the song says, no?

    1. Just excellent. It also does not speak well for our public health ” authorities.” Perhaps Doug Ford and Christine Elliot should have a look. Our doctors really need to start speaking out. It is a challenging time for them, but It’s important that they challenge the destructive directives that are being forced on people.

    2. Damn interesting tale from the Doctor.
Maybe hanging the people responsible,a few at every major intersection until their bones blow away, will be adequate warning.
      But I doubt it.
The Progressive Fools who orchestrated Dread Covid Theatre, most likely believe that every action they took was for “The Good of The People”.
Truly amazing,to hear what I had long suspected; No treatment protocol.
1 year and a half into what our experts proclaim as “Worst Medical Emergency Evah” So bad we must surrender all our civil liberties to bureaucrats..and no treatment…
With help such as these I fear no enemy,as those behind me are enough.
Fire them all and execute any who demand we “reward them” for their help.
The Dread Covid Theatre,a glorious demonstration of the best government can do.

  1. Breaking news. And this is BIG.

Harvard scientists may have saved the e-car by making a BLT sandwich lithium metal battery that will last 10 t0 15 years (IE 10000 charges) so e-car owners won’t have to sell/trade their e-cars in when the lithium ion battery fails at 5 to 8 years.

    https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sciencetech/article-9574495/Scientists-develop-holy-grail-EV-batteries.html

Politicians and do-gooders for Mother Earth are breathing a big sigh of relief because so many of them have staked their presently rotten reputations on e-cars.
Of course, it could be a while before they figure out how to get the BLT out of the new battery.

  2. According to the Gubmints Stats. Right now in Canada more people are dying of the VAX than are getting taken out by AR 15’s.
    Your Gubmint is KILLING YOU.

    1. steakman, for some strange reason I have been able to get info regarding deaths since they started shooting people up with this poison. I keep giving people those numbers but for some strange reason they don’t want to hear them.

  3. Nazi flags flown at the muslim rallies, rocks thrown at Jews in Montreal, old Jewish man beaten in Toronto. While some politicians are speaking out about the anti-Semitic demonstrations, Justin has said nothing from his Harrington Lake resort.

    1. The Rt. Hon. one will not say anything here. Islamist ruffians are part of the Liberals’ core voting constituency.

      1. Oddly enough, so are Jews. I wonder how they rationalize Trudeau’s obvious indifference to hatred against Jews.

        1. For the longest time Bernie Farber (a Liberal party supporter) was the head of the Canadian Jewish Congress, and now he is a biggie at the Canadian Anti-Hate Network. Mr. Farber supports radical Islamism. One can call this phenomenon the “Farber Syndrome”.

    2. Born and raised in Toronto, a peaceful, great place with little violence and primarily old European stock with ethnic neighbourhoods like Greek Town on the Danforth. Bit by bit muslims have moved in and mosques are everywhere now. One muslim girl told her teacher a man pulled off her hijab and every left wing politician from our Prime Minister, our provincial premier to our mayor sprang to decry this abomination. Of course it was a lie and never happened. A muslim shot and killed some women in Greek Town a few years ago and our politicians and police never figured out the reason and are still mystified.

Ghamil Gharbi, a son of a muslim Algerian who hated women for daring to become engineers in Montreal, shot and killed 14 women at their university while the men just ran away. Gharbi, alias Marc Lepine, was taught by his dad to hate feminists according to his mother. Our leftist media never use Lepine’s muslim name.

    3. Worse, no one is complaining that the attendees of the paloswinian riots are selfish and don’t dive a f*** about others.

  4. With all the things going on in Canada and around the world, Blackie The Gay Pirate knows what is important right now. He will be virtually speaking today at a UN conference on gay rights.

  5. Claws of the Panda.

Bill C-10 will give the CRTC much more power to control what Canadians see and hear. Under its already significant powers, we now know that the CRTC, like so much of Justin’s state apparatus, is already kowtowing to the Chicoms:

“The Chinese-language channel CCTV-4, under direct Communist Party control, continues to air — in Canada —the coerced statements of people detained in China.”

    https://ottawacitizen.com/opinion/dahlin-forced-confessions-on-tv-violate-canadian-law-will-parliament-or-the-crtc-act

  6. Levy at the Toronto Sun website, gives a good description of the hate fest by muslims at Toronto city hall.

      1. I wonder if that is why they mostly did not try to clamp down on the anti- lockdown demonstrations on Saturdayl They would have had to do the same with the Muslim demonstrations. Halifax did clamp down. I guess not many Muslims in Nova Scotia.

    1. Interesting – in Algonquin languages Squaw or a similar word is the word for woman. If an Algonquin uses the term, it is okay. If anyone else uses the word it is racist. A reverse thereof is we shouldn’t use the word Indian or Eskimo because it isn’t their word for themselves. Just another example that whatever whitie says is wrong regardless of rationale.

  7. The two business TV networks this morning are all abuzz about the $40-billion sale, by AT&T, of Warner Brothers to a smallish cable company, Discovery Inc. Lots of wheeling and dealing there — knowing that Warner Brothers (who owns CNN news) has been losing money bog time. Stock prices of Discovery and AT&T are both up this morning — knowing that the Democratic party will approve the mega-deal. After all, the big Warner Bothers conglomerate supported Joe Biden. Jeff Zucker over at CNN need not worry about any changes there.

Reminds me of a Mary McCaslin song (“the Dealers”):
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jsNelm8ZPR0

Soft environmentalist she, back in the 1970s. Liked her open-tuning guitar.

  8. Toronto Sun reports that the separatist Bloc Party will support Adolf’s fascist censorship bill.

  9. True North lists the NDP and Liberal MPs that have posted anti Israel statements.

  10. Our public broadcaster is spamming Canadian teachers. Our tax dollars at work…

“ CBC News sent a questionnaire to the public email addresses of more than 50,000 education workers in nearly 200 school districts across eight provinces. ”

  11. Blackie’s CBC and guest discuss how evil evangelical Christians are making things worse in the Gaza conflict, by supporting the prime minister of Israel. Its always those damn Christians stirring things up in the world. Its a good thing Canadian politicians know how to control them.

  12. Inflation beginng to bite hard from all the disastrous Liberal/Democratic Communist programs. Like Covid Gulags and printing and borrowing money that they can not repay.
Canada and the US on the road to Bankruptcy.
Keep voting Liberal please. The sooner Canada and the Atlantic and Quebec Welfare Bums are gone the better, the faster the Canadian Gulag will be broken up.
A true blessing for all of Western Canada.

  13. The bought and paid for media is excited that dedicated communist and environmental loon Avi Lewis is going to run for the NDP in Vancouver.

    1. I guess Mrs. Lewis (aka Naomi Klein) is busy doing other things.

      1. When I was a kid in Canmore when it was still a working man’s town. The Canmore Bar was so tough the bars were on the inside of the windows. And that is no shit. On a Friday Night and Sat night me and my younger brother would bicycle downtown to watch the fights between the cowboys and the coal miners.
One of the best remembered in that town was between a 50 some year old cowboy, a friend of the family named Ray McBride, all he every did was cowboy and a 30 year old coal miner who held the record for tons of coal shoveled per shift. I won’t mention his name as he may still be alive.
Ray was a legend along with guys like Ray Bagley, and my 2 older brothers all gone now.
The young miner got drunk and grabbed Ray’s cowboy hat and threw it across the bar.
Ray was a little short banty rooster and very bow legged. and 20 plus years older but he gave that miner the beating of his life. Ray finished him on his knees. But there was no doubt who won that fight.
There is a street named after Ray today in Canmore, and his old ranch just outside town on the Bow River is now the Golf Course.
He was a first class gentleman, and a wild old man and not to be trifled with by man or beast.
He was my personal friend as much as a young sprout can be friends with a man. He taught me a few tricks about catching cut throat. I held him in high regard and he always treated me well. Even went back in the mountains with him and his son on horseback.
Before Old Ray passed my older brother went to see him in Canmore. Ray was living at his ranch in Canmore, in his 80’s now. My brother hailed the camp a few times and Ray would not respond. Old devil was always armed and ready. So my brother went upwind and lit a fire and smoked him out like a pole cat. It got so bad in the ranch house. Ray finally broke cover, he had to. He came out mad, followed by his 30-35 year old Lady friend, he was playing house with.
He called my brother Al some names and said only GD Beacon would pull a dirty rotten trick like that and smoke a man out of his own house. They cowboyed together years before. Then they proceeded to get falling down drunk together. True story. Alberta bred some hard good men in the day.
My great honor to have known a few.

PS: was back in Canmore a year ago, the Old Canmore Hotel the bars are off the windows and it is now a Pot Dispensary. I sat down on the same old bench out front and thought back to those summer nights years before. Sitting out front waiting for the roar when a fight would break out. Everybody left old man alone after that one.

          1. Ha missed that I had crashed, yes I mentioned a lot of places on my street for sale. Daughter is doing a booming business as a realtor. But her margin is thinner, and she is a very aggressive and works hard for both buyer and seller to make it work.
Did a recount on this street out of 12 homes 4 for sale. 4 homes full time workers. 3 part time one preacher with no church. Doing clandestine meetings in homes I think. 1 disabled 1 retired.
Business’s doing poorly very low truck and train traffic.
No new construction in area. 10 children and 1 baby, 2 young men with no work at all.
Food costs are shooting up. Spotted a small 3 lb ham for 31 dollars. Told my son the rancher to get himself a couple of pigs going. Going to be money in local meat suppliers. Oh and the roads are bad even for Alberta. You really need to pay attention as the pot holes really slam your tire right to the rim if you screw up.
I think when all the various and sundry government handouts, mortgage and rent subsidies, wage subsidies small business subsidies end the pain will be brutal.

          2. A PS: NR. The central banks have screwed up bad. If they raise rates to back off inflation. The Governments have borrowed so much and printed so much, that the Governments will never be able to pay it back. They will be hard pressed to pay the interest on all the money that Trudeau and Kenney etc borrowed. It will mean they will have to make hard choices. Pay the interest and the debt or cut something like say healthcare or slash somewhere. Just like Chretien and Martin stole 54B out of UI Fund held in trust. 54B will not make a dent in the 6T owed now by our governments.
We are well and truly screwed.

          3. Yes– this is very worrisome. Like we’re in quicksand. What’s the solution? Governments everywhere are stupid to print money. They treat their citizens like dirt and open the borders to people who bring diseases and rely on the redistributed wealth. There is no wealth. Just debt.

        1. Apparently my freshman undergrad year roommate and his wife settled in Canmore after he retired from his job in the Calgary school system. It sounds like it’s a town that would suit him, considering that the two of them seem to have become SJWs.

          1. BAD you are so right, the whole town is SJW heaven. All our old bike trails are gone, it is nothing but wall to wall cheek by jowl rich folk and a lot of snobbery. No manners at all, I walked everyday there and you could say good morning, and they would look at you like you had 2 heads.
I much preferred the coal miners and cowboys they at least were raised with manners.
All virtue signaling wankers with no manners.
I read some of the Towns by laws and codes, you would think the UN was running the place.
I much prefer bandits and pirates to that kind of pompous ill bred shite.

  14. Just heard this on TV– Premier Kenney will be holding a news conference tomorrow to announce new changes regarding plandemic restrictions in Alberta.

    1. “The kicking will continue until morale improves, but the jackboots will now be polished.”

      1. Right. Will he’ll announce that they’re giving themselves a raise? They work so hard. Oh! It’s on TV now– they will announce that they’ll be reopening the province gradually —–“for the ones who’ve been vaccinated!”
