Interesting, today I was speaking to a pilot that flies in & out of Red Deer regularly. I was under the impression that Red Deer would be a quiet airport. He informed me that there’s a flight school constantly filled with about 75 Chinese nationals learning to fly. Just like 1942, teaching our enemy the basic skills to fight us. One can only get away this sort of foolishness so many times.

When one of the last airshows was held at the old CFB Namao just north of Edmonton, which was around the mid-1990s, I chatted in German with a Luftwaffe pilot who had just completed a session at Goose Bay. He was on his way back to his home base near München (i. e., Munich) and airshow was part of his return trip.
A private firm took over fighter training, including NATO pilots, at Portage la Prairie, Manitoba, after Chretien shut down the Canadian Forces there in the 90s. Not sure if it is still operating.
