          Here’re a few factoids about CO2 – SJW’s and John Kerry call it “eeevil killusol”, botanists call it “nature’s best free fertilizer”. As Nancy says, it’s basic to photosynthesis, which is how virtually every plant on the planet works. CO2 is 4/10,000ths of the atmosphere, and we horrible humans ( – I’m sorry – only the white male ones are horrible, or contribute CO2) contribute 5% of it. Ants contribute 10%, and termites? – I’ve seen estimates of from 35% to 50%. Everything that breathes O2 contributes CO2 – and everything that burns as well. Yet the UN IPCC states that it will only consider human-induced global warming ( – you know, the same IPCC that wants $122 trillion to fix global warming, and gasoline going to $248 a gallon – ). And plants? – I invite you to google a wine called “the Denier”; this couple run a vineyard in Washington State. They pass-on that grapes cannot survive without CO2 – and that 95% of the non-water weight of a grape comes from atmospheric CO2. Betcha’ other plants are in the same boat.

          And a few factoids of CO2 as a greenhouse gas. It’s a very minor one – water vapour is by far the major one, which calls into question the whole idea of powering cars with hydrogen to cut-down on global warming, since that just produces more water vapour – especially up here in the frozen North. Those of you who’ve seen “An Inconvenient Truth” (I haven’t, and not going to either) report an experiment that Lyin’ Al Gore and Bill Nye do on the film, the “two bottles with thermometers” experiment. Lyin’ Al insists that despite being very rare in the atmosphere, CO2 has an outsized effect on solar trapping and hence global warming, and the two-bottles experiment demonstrated this; one bottle was filled with CO2, and they shone a lamp on the two and the thermometer in the bottle with the CO2 went up faster. Well, funny thing – many other researchers have tried that experiment and it doesn’t ever work for them. Coincidence?

          Finally, a delightful factoid about greenhouse gases; I mean c’mon John, don’t be a piker – why don’t we rid our atmosphere of ALL greenhouse gases? That will definitely solve global warming, BIGTIME; you see, our Earth is outside the sun’s liquid water band. So, our greenhouse gases are why this planet supports life in the first place – and without them it’d be very cold down here, our average temperature would be 16 degrees Fahrenheit or -11 degrees Celsius.

          3. Y. Knott – my favourite way to put it is using tree-line. Trees need CO2 to breathe and they lose more water during “panting” (breathing ineffectually, trying to get enough CO2 to stay alive).

            There are 3 types of tree-line: one on mountains (elevation), one at the far north (farther north than that permafrost line), and one around desert areas. As CO2 goes up, tree-line goes down. At 150 PPM treeline becomes sea level at the equator.

          Try 750,000 or more parts per million. I don’t recall exactly but I have seen a report that said CO2 was the major component of the atmosphere that had a pressure of 100 atmospheres. Something like 8 % of the earth’s crust are carbon compounds that use to be CO2 in the atmosphere.

    1. Our own family rebellion was to have an “outdoor” gathering chez an offspring. Given the weather was crappy, the family carport was encased in tarps and a couple of heaters were brought in. The tarps weren’t just to keep the weather out; there was a neighbouring Karen (male version) whom we didn’t want to know what was going on as were just over the ten person limit. The host did a wonderful smoked beef brisket, the grandbrats got to play together, and I got grandbrat hugs. A good day.

      2. Every weekend at our home…kids and grandkids , indoors, and outdoors. Sometimes 10 and more. Christmas, birthdays, Easter…we have not stopped.
        We have acreage, so that helps, . Our neighbours are totally on board. They are elderly, he is disabled so they welcome all their family daily, and a huge family dinner every Sunday.
        We only restricted ourselves last march for the 2 weeks BS….and even then the kids were coming for outdoor visits.

            I saw the stats my county in Alberta put out they said average of 47 deaths per week based on percentages.
            I phoned my County Office and asked to speak to anyone about these stats that was qualified. They got someone, I asked so we now have 47 deaths per week in the County with covid. She said no were did you get that number. I got it from your County web page. I asked how many have died in the county in the last year from Covid. She said 1 person an older person in a seniors care home.
            We have 7800 people in a county that is 6500 square km and 1 older person in the last year has died of covid but we are all locked up like fucking criminals.

            I keep telling everyone I see, that people need to get out and vote in the Municipal Election and vote out every single councilor, Mayor and school board trustee. Even if you have to vote for a dog.

        Jason Kenney went from high school student council to University students’ union to MP to Premier. The Pillsbury Doughboy has never had a real job in his life. He’s a professional politician. Never had to make payroll, never had to actually accomplish anything.

        And all around the world, with notable exceptions, that’s who’s in charge. People who are professional politicians. They have more in common with each other than with the people they supposedly serve. And their knowledge of the world is limited to getting elected. Or more to the point, power.

        They’re illiterate and innumerate outside that one goal.

  16. My wife and I are going to go into the dentist for a cleaning and checkup that is now eight months overdue. This is due to the long wait list created after the shut down. I had a broken tooth fixed abut four months ago and they had introduced a new preventative measures. I had to swish a hydrogen peroxide solution around in my mouth to kill COVID. It is disgusting stuff, tastes like old socks and rotten apples. I was thinking of protesting when we go in again. I did a literature search.

    I found out that hydrogen peroxide does kill the virus in theory, based on petri dish experiments. There is no evidence whatsoever that this disgusting crap kills the virus in humans. For one thing, the virus is not produced in the mouth. It is produced in the lungs and so as soon as you spit the stuff out and exhale with relief, you have contaminated your mouth again. The stuff was pushed by a company that makes the dilute foaming hydrogen peroxide for teeth whitening. Dental workers are happy because in their fear of the virus they are willing to employ a method with no basis in reality that has a nice placebo effect making them feel safer.

    Is it worth putting up with the foul taste for a dental office placebo? It is safe and harmless, just incredibly annoying. I have not yet decided how much fuss I am going to make.

        I asked at my dental office whether the whole team was going to get the ‘jab.’ The dental assistant said they all were going to wait and see the results of side effects etc. They are a small team of 4 people. The dentist is young, fairly recently out of School and is up to date on all procedures, they’re very impressive.

    1. I saw that when I was studying Physics in the 80s. String theory was bad enough – five different theories really, none of them testable – but then Dark Matter and Dark Energy epicyclic handwavium being talked about like the emperor’s new clothes instead of fudge factors took the cake.

      This is a similar situation to Physics circa 1900, when they were struggling to figure out the atom. It took 30 years and two big shifts in the way we understand the universe to figure out. We’re long overdue for another shift.

      2. Back in the early 90’s I was having a few beer with some other engineering students (I seem to recall we did that a lot) and two engineering physics majors started talking about cosmology. I listened in and asked a few questions and the one who knew me the least put his nose in the air and said “aw, isn’t that cute, the miner thinks he’s capable of understanding where everything came from.”

        As the other (a friend of mine) was sending beer out his nose with laughter before I could even respond. I said to the first “No, I’m just listening to your description of how everything has to be exactly so based on what we now know, and how your dark matter sounds a lot like the layers of crystalline spheres that explained orbital mechanics a few hundred years ago because they couldn’t look at things the right way and don’t realize it. I’m trying to figure out what the nature of the next ‘gravity doesn’t need a physical connection to work’ type breakthrough would be if we are to break the current paradigm.” The discussion got a little weird after that, but he was convinced that only through diving deep into the math (that I readily admit was beyond me) could he find and understand God. I still maintain that we humans don’t have the capacity to understand God, He’s not from here.

      I came to a similar conclusion while I was finishing my Ph. D. My supervisor didn’t care what he investigated, so long as someone else paid for it and he got to keep his seat at the golden hog trough.

No groceries delivered, you’re on your own, strange fires (lots of fires) in condos, factories, no fire crews attending said fires to put them out.       We do “business with these people, accept their crappy exports, their food products? Diplomatic contact? Annual “economic assistance”? They’re landing stuff on the moon.
