Y2Kyoto: Supreme Court Of Climate Cult

Anthony Furey;

Take a look at a couple of sentences about climate change that appeared Thursday concerning the Supreme Court of Canada’s ruling on the carbon tax.

Here’s one: “It is a threat of the highest order to the country, and indeed to the world.” And here’s another: “The undisputed existence of a threat to the future of humanity cannot be ignored.”

Who do you think produced these lines: Did they come from Greta Thunberg’s Twitter account? Or maybe they’re excerpts of a Greenpeace Canada press release? A statement from a Green Party MP, perhaps?

Nope. These theatrical flourishes were from the SCOC ruling itself. Right there in the text of the majority decision that ruled the federal government does indeed have the right to run roughshod over provincial jurisdiction and impose a carbon tax on provinces against their will. […]

Yet here we are seeing that language used by the highest court in the land in the text of a major ruling. And they’re not using this language as an aside. They’re using it as the crux of why they’re siding with the feds and doing what they acknowledge is the rare occurrence of rolling out the Peace, Order and Good Government clause as their legal justification.

We need a new country.

    1. Alberta needs to play hardball. Shut in oil and gas to BC and all points east. Blockade the east and BC. Even stop the trains going east and west,
Who run Barter town? Ha Ha Ha.
Unfortunately Kenney’s nuts haven’t dropped yet.

      1. One dollar per tonne surtax one all railroad traffic entering or leaving the province, including empty tanker cars. Sends a message.

  1. I finally took the Canadian flag sticker off my truck.

I had hope. Cheered the Olympic hockey team. Have coffee table books at the lake with pictures of our vast wilderness.

Terry Fox. John Candy. Rush. Don Cherry. Wayne. Blue Rodeo. Telemiracle

    Igloos.
    Red mittens.
    Fall suppers.
    Newfie’s.
    Prairie boys.

    All good.

    But a carbon tax?

    I’ll check out.

Kate. I’m with ya. New country.

    1. I have to disagree with that!! I know I was totally p’d off at the ruling myself. But what we need to work on is getting rid of the ruling, and not the country it came from. Canada is land mass covered with people; not a political party. I’ve been watching the CBC and CTV national networks justify the Liberal’s stupidity in misinterpreting or misrepresenting carbon taxation. They still don’t understand that we Canadians should not have legal obligation to pay taxes to reduce CO2 that comes from outside of Canada. Alberta, Saskatchewan and Ontario is 20 million people. Not a handful of Liberals. We need to unite and drill that into people’s minds.

      1. “They still don’t understand….”
They won’t ever understand until they see we are leaving.

        1. Wrong.
They understand full well. They just don’t f**king care. Their only concern is the next election.

And why should they care? 98 percent of the electorate obviously doesn’t.

      2. Dissolve the federation. The federal government is of no use to any of us. There is nothing done by the federal level of government that is not done at a provincial level, except national defence, and they do such a shit job at that, that there is really no point bothering. Get rid of the feds and the provinces could deal with each other on matters of mutual concern.

      3. Canada is a Fake Country, a Fake Democracy. It can not be fixed by voting. It is broken beyond repair you can not undo the ruling.
53% of Canadians in polls all agree with the Communist Uniparty or is it the UN Parties of Canada.
Alberta and Sask. quite simply have no other choice than to leave. BC and Eastern Canada have Blockaded Alberta and Sask. main source of livelihood. It is long past time.
Albertans need to cut all emotional ties with canada. And start off loading all things canada out of Alberta. Take back our Parks, kick out the Occupying RCMP, get out of the CPP, get out of UI, send the Fisheries and Oceans packing on and on and on.
116 years of talk and haranguing and listening to the Bullshit, well if the Conservatives can just get a majority. Yah that worked well with Harper and the Constipated Parson Manning.
        FUCK CANADA

      4. I understand the sentiment. But…why should this time work? Who was it said that the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result.

Preston Manning felt the same way. What did that get us?

Where is this ground swell of people that will restore some common sense to this benighted Dominion? I don’t see them. BUT! I can see the mass of people that are addicted to welfare payments, handouts and “free stuff” from the government and the parasites that enable them. Do you think they are going to let their gravy train get derailed?

  2. Why not just strip us of all our rights because of climate change. Restrict our travel – justified because of climate change, dictate what we eat – justified because of climate change, curb free speech to prevent criticism of climate change.
Our Supreme Court is filled with political hacks.

    1. “Why not just strip us of all our rights because of climate change.”

Done and done. We only got those rights that they temporarily allow us to have. Hence we have none. The sooner this country collapses the better.

      1. well COLON R~4, Max is against this climate bullshit, and is the only political leader to be so, butt assholes like you and the Ooz, are never Maxers!!

  3. Yes, we’re being governed by communist assholes from top to bottom.

It used to be a great country!
Now idiots think there’s 87 genders.
    Need I say more.

    1. “… governed by communist assholes …” The majority of them don’t even realize they are assholes, let alone communist ones.

    2. “Now idiots think there’s are 87 genders”, Um 88, if you include a separate special one for only the sock monkey. He’s in a “special” gender class all by himself, and boy does he think he’s special!

  4. Yep, UDI. Unilateral declaration of independence. It is the only way.

Looking at the decades long, 3 PMs Burger King BREXIT deal, is there anyone stupid enough to believe “negotiations” will do anything?

Seriously, I want to know. If someone can even be that stupid. How did they survive to adulthood? Do they even know how to chew food? Are they capable of wiping their own arse?

Until we are out, there will be no pipelines. No nuclear power. No reliable power. No cheap, or plentiful power. No travel. Permanent lockdown. Permanent facelessness.

    1. Alberta and Sask have been talking now and begging for equality for 116 years Yah that has worked so well.
Yah sending FAKECONS to Ottawa worked well. Harper and the Constipated Parson were able to work with Eastern Canada to keep us paying for another 40 years.
Just FOAD Canada. Burn the cheezy red flag of the Liberals.

  5. We need out of this broken confederation any way it’s possible. As soon as possible

    1. I have actually “done” something in that I have contributed to the Maverick Party of Western Canada and in the last Federal Election, I spoiled my ballot by writing “Western Separation Now!” across it. Perhaps these are useless gestures, but I am “Done” with Canada as it has become. It is not the country of the 1950’s, 1960’s and the 1970’s in which I grew up.

      1. I became a member of the Wildrose Independence Party. If there’s no Maverick candidate in my riding in the next election, I’ll vote for whoever the PPC is running.

Like you, Canada is dead to me. April 6, 1968 was when it started dying, but when PET was re-elected in 1980, I knew the country was finished. That moment came when the CBC TV talking head went on the air after the polls closed in Vancouver, where I was living at the time. He smirked with delight when he said that the election had long been over by the time we finished voting. That’s when I realized that my ballot didn’t matter.

        1. BA – I grew up with that in BC. My parents would go up to vote, come home, and hear the results before ever their ballots had been counted. It was a rare occasion when the count had to go beyond the Ontario border to the west, and even rarer when it had to cross the Rockies.

  6. Just review the Munk debate with Mark Steyn arguing against Louise Arbour to see how box of rocks our supremos are.

  7. “The undisputed existence of a threat ”

    Undisputed?

That’s just shameful, coming from a supreme court justice.

  8. Trudeau/Liberals wrote it for them AND held off the decision just before Trudeau ups the tax and triggers an election.

  9. “They won’t ever understand until they see we are leaving.”

    That.

More like, “They will REFUSE to understand until they are shocked out of their rut by us leaving.” And it may well be too late by then – they will happily wallow in their virtue-signalling mudbath until the West leaves – and sneer at them while they go.

This is the real tragedy of the whole global warming farce and the global neo-socialist progressive elites behind it. “Oh, we SHOULD be running the world – and making all the tiny economic decisions for the Great Unwashed, the poor dears – WE know what they REALLY need, because we’re SO. MUCH. SMARTER than them.”

And their horrific failures? The hundred-million-plus who died last century from their ideology? – “that NEVER happened!”

” – Yes it did – here are the pictures and the survivor testimony…”

“Oh well; THAT wasn’t REAL socialism – you know, like OURS!”

It’s worse than a religion – it’s an addiction. They’re drunk with power and the righteousness of their cause, just like C.S. Lewis warned; and the only recourse is to leave them in their mouldering ‘utopia’ to endure their own long, miserable wake-up, and get-on with your life somewhere else.

  10. If it is indeed an existential threat then countries like China, India and the US of A must be declared as enemies as they have not assigned a tax on carbon dioxide.
At the very least we should be assigning a prohibitive tariff on every import from these polluting bastards and then put Allll That Money into government coffers so our federal saviors can do even more.

Yeah, the West needs to get the fuck out. Yesterday.

    1. And it was just declared – China burned half the coal that was used in the world in 2020. { – Oh and – the last I saw on the subject, Canada, due to our small population and huge area covered with green stuff, actually takes-in more CO2 than we emit. – }

But we can do better: we really really can. All hail the wise and politically-correct leadership of our munificent Little Potato, who promised to plant half a billion trees to sop-up even MOAR of that eeeeevil killusol. “Alexa, how many of the half-billion trees Trudeau promised he’d plant, have actually been planted as of this date?”

“And Alexa, how many hectares of land in Canada have been clear-cut of trees to be chipped into biofuel and shipped to Europe for burning in their powerplants?”

“Alexa, why are you playing a recording of crickets?”

    2. “If it is indeed an existential threat then countries like China, India and the US of A must be declared as enemies as they have not assigned a tax on carbon dioxide.”

Using Liberal logic, Canadians have to pay a carbon tax because of the GHG’s emitted by those three continues, right? And that will make everything better?

      Sure…makes total sense…

  11. I am waiting for the first politico to argue that the Supreme Court decision proves global warming is real. Probably Trudeau but maybe even O’Toole. Certainly any Green or Dipper.

    1. The most honorable judges of the most supreme court of our land have said that this is so.

Surely they have undisputed evidence to back up their claim.

  12. This issue is one of my go to arguments about the lack of economic intelligence specifically, and critical thinking skills in general, in liberals.

They support carbon taxes using the premise that higher energy costs WILL incentivize businesses to change their practices to emit less carbon dioxide. At the same time they hold the diametrically opposed position that higher labor costs (increasing the minimum wage) WILL NOT incentivize businesses to change their practices to use less labor.

  13. My response:

The Supreme Court invoked the “controversial notwithstanding clause” ™ to nullify provincial rights.
Yes they just overrided the constitution because of feelings.

A smart political party would see this and proceed to make some important mischief.
I mean, if the Supreme Court can invoke the principle of the notwithstanding clause, who else can use that precedent to their advantage?

  14. Let’s lower our carbon dioxide emissions by closing down all primary manufacturing of goods that fill the shelves of Walmart, Canadian Tire, Home Depot etc. and shift all those emissions to green China, then have all those goods shipped to us using diesel powered transportation. We have to “do our part” donja know .

  15. “The price good men pay for indifference to public affairs is to be ruled by evil men.” — Plato

I have been encouraged of late by the formation of the “Reclaim Party” in the UK and by the videos of Laurence Fox ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CMj7AiBPTYo ) and Leo Kearse ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BRyunCldBBY ).

We absolutely need a critical mass of people to come together to support this movement in the UK, US and Canada. Their slogan “It’s your life, your freedom, reclaim it” is a clarion call to those who will listen. The party’s goal is to take back the country, to restore the principles and values that have guided civilization for a millennium and to rebuke the “woke” and “cancel culture” crowd, who have silenced the majority and whose political policies are destroying the very fabric of our society.

More than ever the average person needs to get involved in public affairs. We need to find good people who will champion free speech, champion open debate and champion sound policy. Sitting back and complaining about what is taking place is not an option any longer. Further, we have to step away from those leaders and political parties that chose to drink the Kool-Aid of “woke”. We have support only those leaders and parties that offer a return classic liberalism and an end to the rule by elites.

Our freedom as a society can be restored but if we are willing to take it back.

    1. People’s Party comes to mind. I am planning to vote for PPC next time. I hope they have been able to recruit some good candidates. The current direction that Canada is going in will destroy what is left of the country. When even the Supremes have been brainwashed, there is little hope.

      1. LindaL, with all due respect and for the fiftieth time, voting for a K-becer led political party is why Canada is where it is at today!
Trudeau x 2, Mulroney, Chretien and all their toads, ministers and apparatchiks is why this country is an indebted slave of and to QUEBEC!

      2. I’ve joined the PPC and hopefully more of my disgusted compatriots will vote PPC. Otherwise, it’s just a dystopian nightmare.

  16. Can we use the Peace, Order and Good Government clause to have Liberals declared unconstitutional?

  17. I believe the provinces that were involved in the SCOC filing agreed to the statements quoted in the article above. Essentially they all agreed that human activity is causing this “existential threat” of climate change. The provinces basically seemed to be involved in some sort of theatrics with the federal government to give them the cover to say they “have to do their own carbon tax because its the law”. The Moe government seemed to be ready to lose the case with their own carbon plan ready to go. I think all governments like to keep their options open when it comes to taxation.

    1. This decision by the SCOC is basically saying the constitution is null and void.

As I said previously, a “smart” political organization/party/politician would be taking advantage of this opportunity to create as much mischief as they could with this.

  18. I have repeatedly said that most judges are failed lawyers with a drinking problem.

  19. How do you get free of Trudeau’s charter?
How do you get out from under section 13, and that Warman grievance grifter?
How do you get out from under equalization?
How do you stop funding the CBC?
How do you end the Dairy Cartel?
How do you end the guaranteed rail shortages every time we have a good harvest?
How do you get a pipeline built?
How do you get nuclear power built?

Nothing can be improved with negotiations, or within Canada. Anyone who tells you anything else, is a liar.

    Unilateral. Declaration. of Independence.

No negotiations. Just amputate the necrotic appendage. The country of Canada is in sepsis; either do what is necessary to survive, or die with it.

    1. FYI, looks like Maverick Party is a non-starter. First line on their website? “We love Canada, we are staying to fix it!”.

Who are the people that their only platform, is “separate now, no negotiations”?

The system is broken, and unsalvageable. Anyone talking about fixing the unfixable, is simply a rent seeking grifter.

      1. Maverick is the only party at the federal level that is seeking a fair deal for the west. (PPC would if it could, but …)
Maverick will call for UDI (a provincial jurisdiction) if negotiations don’t succeed.
Please join and support the Maverick Party to make sure they have the balls to fight for western freedom and not squish out like the CPC.

  20. Sadly, the SCOC long ago abandoned any pretext of being an arbiter of the law and equity. They are a super-legislature that used the Charter to give themselves sweeping new powers to rewrite the law as they see fit to further their own personal policy preferences. In law school, the students are taught that this is completely normally and absolutely justifiable and, why wouldn’t they be? Why would anyone want to give up unaccountable power?
The arguments that this ruling opens the floodgates or violates the fundamental separation of powers in the constitution are both true but miss the point: the court doesn’t care. If this ruling is thrown at them to support a finding they disagree with they will simply ignore it or distinguish on some contrived pretext.
The problem is that the court has been captured by radical progressive interests. Until that is acknowledged and fixed, nothing will change.

    1. I agree, slaw.
The other area where we are permanently hooped due to SCOC is anything to do with aboriginals.

    2. Liberals have been appointing Liberal judges in Canada for over 100 years. Look no further than the Gomery Report… Look at da Golf Balls….
It began further back with the original crook JA MacDonald. When he was caught in the CPR Scandal. When he got back in power what did he do? He abolished the Grand Jury so never again could a private citizen interfere in the thievery and corruption of the political class.
No Canada can never be fixed. Alberta has to UDI and walk away.
This ruling now opens the flood gates for deeper and further meddling in Provincial Jurisdiction.
The SCOC will most certainly rule that Ottawa’s New Equity Tax is Constitutional. Perhaps Ottawa was waiting for this ruling so the SCOC could help set the stage for the Equity Tax on your home.

Yep, never been able to post a link to anything on this site. The term “second class treatment” comes to mind.

All federal options are non-starters. No federal party is going to take us out. Don’t waste your time.

    1. Did George Washington attempt a referendum?

Did George Washington start a political party in hopes of voting the U.S. out of King George’s empire?

Referendums and voting is simply controlled opposition.

  22. Some very good points on here,Be assured political parties read this stuff and like it or not they have to adjust accordingly.I don’t include liberals in this group

  23. Years ago our corporate lawyer stopped into my office to campaign as he was running for the federal liberals. We lived in a solidly conservative riding, so I asked him humorously, why all lawyers were liberals. He immediately retorted, “Because they appoint all the judges.” He is a judge today, so he was paying his dues. Of course lawyers and ultimately judges, have all drunk the liberal, secular, humanist, godless cool aid that now represents university valves. The courts have lost all credibility with me years ago as their decisions routinely violate the laws and commands established by God for mankind to live by. We live in a country where “rule of law” is supreme, so there seems to be no way to challenge any of the courts bizarro decisions. The only way I think, is for our provincial governments to begin to take retaliatory strikes against the federal government and the Quebec, Ontario and B.C. province’s interests. They hurt us, we hurt them.

  24. Actually the Supremes are right.
“an existential threat to Canada” ..
Right for all the wrong reasons.
    Canada is dead.
And the Supreme Court just certified it.
This absolute abuse of power by the Parasitic Overload,of which the Just Us boys are no small part, signals the collapse of Confederation..It is not even a legal fiction anymore.

We Westerners were just told ,once again,”No Place for you idiots, respect the wisdom and authority of your superiors…”
We did not leave or choose to separate from Canada..Canada left us..
    Free at last.

  25. The BC supreme court recently ruled that restricting religious services was justified by the COVID emergency. Now the supreme court says that there’s a climate emergency that justifies also violating the constitution. Get ready people because your life as it once was is OVER. The only solution is to leave this stupid country.

  26. It means they can do anything. They can ban cars. Ban use of pipelines. Ban use of fossil fuels. Ban travel (for you not them). Ban employment in any fossil fuel related industry. Force you to convert to electric heat.

Because they are fighting an existential threat to the planet.

As China builds another 100 coal power plants.
