The Sound Of Settled Science

Research risks ruining a treasured leftist slur;

Neanderthals possessed the capacity to hear, process and produce human speech, according to a new survey combining CT scans and computer models.

For the study, published Monday in the journal Nature Ecology and Evolution, researchers used computed tomography scans to build 3D models of the ear structures in Neanderthals, Homo sapiens and Neanderthal relatives unearthed at Atapuerca, an archaeological site in Spain.

My friends, it’s time to talk reparations.

  1. Computer algorithms developed by scientists in the field of auditory bioengineering helped researchers analyze the 3D models

    So guesswork, then.

scientists can never know exactly how Neanderthals communicated, but by studying their adulatory capabilities

    Gell-Mann amnesia strikes again.

  2. **It’s difficult to imagine why our early ancestors would have mated with them. Neanderthals were a different species to us after all, and the thought of it seems distasteful to us today.**

…then you never considered the early Democrat.

    1. The descendants of the Neanderthals are still with us. They can and do speak. Their language is called Ebonics.

  3. I believe that the physical differences between modern humans and neanderthals was largely the result of modern artists rendering.

I suspect these guys were largely physically indistinguishable from modern ‘cold weather’ humans like Inuit, Siberians.

The supposed physical differences between us, was likely smaller than the differences between an Australian Aborigini and a Blond Scandinavian.

Another point is the DNA from both supposed species in modern humans and its vast distribution. It seems that the cross breeding was a common occurrence.
If so, humans were the only species that produced viable offspring from a cross species mating. It is unusual that such a mating would ‘not’ be sterile, as it is in about 100% in the rest of the natural world.

Cross species breeding produces mules, not Celts, Neanderthals were modern humans built for cold weather.

    1. Agreed, robins. The very fact that mating with other humans could produce non-sterile offspring would indicate that neanderthals were not a separate species from humans by definition — a different variety to be sure but not a different species. It’s very irritating when supposed scientists play fast and loose with the definitions. The ability of neanderthals and other humans to breed with each other might throw a wrench into a pet theory, but then the theory has to to change. Too bad, so sad. Welcome to the world of science.

  4. When a woke professor would call me a Neanderthal, in an argument, I would counter with the following argument: “You Europeans engagedin a genocide against my people! I demand reparations!”. That would usually shut them up, and make them feel guilty.

    1. Psychopaths so not experience ‘guilt’. Today’s university profs are mostly all psychopaths.

Avoid the high cost of post secondary education and pass those savings along to your customers. That is what I did …. and I kept some for myself as well.

    2. More like “you out-of-Africans engaged in a genocide against my people!” Neandertal genes are found in European and Asian populations.

  5. Dan Everett, a linguist, has several videos up on YouTube. His hypothesis pushes language (the transmission of information by symbols) back to Homo Erectus. He has worked extensively with modern day Hunter Gatherers in the Amazon and makes the case that languages don’t have to incorporate multiple tenses, extensive vocabulary, and clauses within clauses to be effective. He claims that there were several experiments teaching PHD students how to knap stone tools that failed. If the school is Auchlean (1.6 mya) or a more advanced level, mimicry is not enough to teach the skill set; they have not succeeded in teaching mastery without language. Even if you are skeptical and reject his hypothesis, his videos are worth setting aside time to watch. You will come away with a much deeper appreciation of language and how it shapes, expands, and limits our cognitive world. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qFxg5vkaPgk

    1. Off topic, but anyone interested in human origins will not want to miss this video. This interesting idea attempts to explain the steps that lead to brain expansion from Australopithecus (Lucy) to modern humans. This hypothesis from the Institute for Human Origins (founded by Donald Johanson) proposes a jump start that led to a chain reaction of expanding brains as opposed to incremental changes. ” Jessica Thompson has led a team of scientists (including her IHO advisor Curtis Marean) that proposes a provocative new theory suggesting that, prior to the advent of stone-tool making, scavenging inside-bone nutrients, such as marrow fat, was the critical first step in our becoming the planet’s top predatory species. ”

      1. We’re also the only ape to have starch amylase in our saliva. This suggests that we were eating relatively energy dense tubers instead of leafy matter. This would have allowed us more time to hunt instead of forage. Ironically it may be our vegetable diet that contributed to moving from leopard lunch meat to top predator.

I’ll note that digging for tubers and scavenging bone marrow both require basic tool use, so we were already at least as smart as crows at that point.

  6. ” The findings suggest …”

So throw this study on the same shit pile with:
… NYC will be under water by 2055
… all white people are privileged racists
… there are 300 white supremacist groups in Canada
    … etc

However, with 2 to 4 percent Neanderthal DNA, isn’t it time for us Picts and Celts to demand compensation for generations of slurs?

  7. Whenever the government asks any sort of question about race or ethnicity, Neanderthal is at the top of my list of about 20.

  8. and there are “scientists ” who feel that the genetic difference in todays humans, is greater than the difference between modern man and Neanderthals was 40, 000 years ago. This also hurts the lefties narrative of “equality” (AKA being the same)

  9. My wife says I look like a Neanderthal. Clearly I am one of the few to qualify so the reparations should be huge. You bastards destroyed my culture.

  10. I still suffer ancestral PTSD from the genocide committed against my people.

Where do I pick up my cheque, and where do I apply for affirmative action jobs with Coke, Gillette and/or government?

    Johnboy, ugg/booga/argg

  11. ” Where do I pick up my cheque, and where do I apply for affirmative action jobs with Coke, Gillette and/or government?”

Hell yes! I mean, if Elizabeth, last of the Warrenookees, got where she did with 1/1064th dijinuss DNA, a lot of us merit a lifetime Kingship or Presidency with our Neanderthal genes.

And dammit all, I clearly remember the oral tradition passed down to me from my ancestors by my Great Grampy. Not only were we Neanderthals, but dark ones too!

  12. A much-loved, quite intelligent but rather large cousin turned to me once and said, “Do you know that there are people around today who closely resemble Neanderthals:”?! I looked at him levelly and dryly replied to my Neanderthal-looking cousin, “Why yes, I do believe there are such people around today”. He pressed, “And do you know there are people around today who are direct genetic descendants of Neanderthals”?! “Yes, I do indeed believe there are such people around today”, I answered, staring directly at him significantly…

A mutual female friend, looking at both of us, gave us the impression she fully agreed with this for both of us, and that she wished she could escape the room!
