You see, the most important thing right now, the greatest issue facing the nation, is impeaching a guy who isn’t even freaking president anymore. Everyone involved in this colossal waste of time and money is fully aware it is futile. Trump will not be convicted. Instead, some Democrats will just hypocritically pontificate for another several weeks while the work of the country doesn’t get dealt with.
This is a reason to be legitimately upset. We all naively believed that the year of our Lord 2021 could not possibly be stupider and more pointless than last year’s 365 days. Boy, a little off on that so far. So far since becoming president, Biden has passed a buffet of executive orders that do nothing for you or your life. All that money he promised you is, you know, in the works? I don’t know. But starting today we are impeaching Donald Trump.

Seeing that vile, pontificating, Ms. Cheney on Chrissy Wallace’s propaganda show yesterday … was sickening. She ACTUALLY believes she and the GOPe are “back in charge” again, doesn’t she?

My one addition is that it’s all just to keep attention focused on the known boogey man, literally at the expense of everything else, just so that no one truly notices the 400-lb gorilla. Attack, attack, attack, and never defend, because by defending, they have to acknowledge some minimal aspect of reality that requires a defence.

It’s almost as though they can’t believe that they’re dealing with an existential crisis, rather than a polite disagreement about goals and plans.

I must admit – I don’t get the reason for this ‘trial’. I’ve read through the attached Defense – which is excellent, and covers all bases: ie,
The Legal: the unconstitutionality of a trial of a citizen [ie, Trump is no longer president and the Constitutional reference to impeachment refers only to sitting authorities]; the constitutional rights of free speech and association; – and then – moving on from the legal infrastructure –
the facts:
– that his words were rhetorical and did not promote violence [and for comparison, the Defense offers us examples of ‘get out and fight’ rhetoric from such as Pelosi, Waters, etc; -some of which DID result in violent acts against people;
– that the violence began BEFORE Trump had finished his speech – and, in addition, there is evidence that the violence was pre-planned several days in advance; therefore – post hoc ergo propter hoc- to declare that Trump’s speech incited the riot is invalid; and finally,
– that the ‘evidence’ offered by the prosecution is not from facts but from media opinions
So- I don’t get it. I think we know that the Democrats rigged this election; – and they are very worried that Trump will run again in 2024. Is this a tactic to prevent this? It doesn’t seem a very strong tactic if their arguments and ‘evidence’ are so weak.

You’re assuming the Democrats care about facts. They do not. You’re assuming they, and the Republican establishment, operate in good faith to attempt to sway voters to their political positions. They do not. Or that they are amenable to the desires of their voters. They are not. Their voters are nothing to them. A means to an end. That end is power.

OK – I fully agree that it’s all about power. But, gosh, it seems a weak display of that power. After all, by law, the Chief Justice is supposed to oversee the ‘trial’. He refused!!!! Now, doesn’t that say something?!
And they would dearly love to have Trump there to ‘testify’ [for the optics] – but of course, he is refusing, because part of his defense is that the trial is itself unconstitutional [valid argument] – and therefore, he can’t attend.

Lets look at another scenario: The Dems are worried that some key states may be overturned by the Supremes and are doing a pre-emptive strike as a bit of insurance ie Trump cannot be returned as president because he has just been impeached. They are not worried about 2024 when Trump will be 78, they are worried about 2022 when the suits will be resolved.
I am still pissed at the GOP for not starting impeachment proceedings against BOTH Biden and Harris the exact moment they were sworn in. I mean within micro-seconds! There is no shortage of real sins to accuse them of and I would have been thoroughly entertained watching media try to defend them while desperately trying not to highlight said sins.
