I believe it stems from when they (Liberals, mostly Quebec ones) were in such a rush to cut ties to our colonial roots and expunge our prior history, they forgot completely about the monster to the South, which of course now dominates our culture and gives Canadians a massive inferiority complex. “Americans are so dumb, they don’t know anything about us” (in my most grating smarmy voice). The irony is that he thought he was appeasing Quebec when in reality, the attitude in Quebec is that anyone from the ROC could just as easily be American as the nullity of English Canada. The thing that drives me nuts is anti-american Canadians that say “Americans are so ignorant” without a hint of self awareness. Some of the vitriol out of these people would be rightly called racist if it were about Nigerians or some other nationality. Just disgusting and makes me hate this stupid country. I still have friends in Canada; lived on the border, In NY, and before that in Ontario for 15 years. Now I’m in the Midwest.
