The Ottawa Police Service is investigating a hate-motivated graffiti that occurred on Friday, October 16th at the National War Memorial on Wellington Street.
At approximately 9:46pm, a man riding a bike approached the Memorial, used a sharp object to engrave a hate graffiti on the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. He left the area on the bike.
The suspect is described as Caucasian man. He was wearing a light-coloured sweater, dark pants, a dark tuque, a black back pack and was riding a mountain style bike (see photos).
I don’t know why they’re looking for the vandal. Nothing will happen to him.

I thought so as well. However, I’ve come to understand that guard duty is only from 9 a.m. – 5 pm. and because of Covid, pared down to 3 p.m.
And they make them wear masks despite standing about 10 meters apart.

It started early on with that scum William Lyon McKenzie King who refused to greet returning Canadian veterans from WW1 and treated Arthur Currie extremely poorly. Most noticeably, WLMK was deliberately absent from the commissioning of the Vimy Memorial in France in 1936. How any Canadian soldier could ever vote Liberal is beyond my comprehension. An ex military friend that served during the Chretien years, said the guys all refer to that period as, “The dark years”.
There will always be soldiers. But a country which doesn’t properly value its own soldiers will have get some other country’s soldiers and then become some other country.
There used to be an honour guard at the Memorial, as Phantom noted, Nathan Cirillo was murdered there almost six years ago to the date of this vandalism. The honour guard was put in place after some drunken clowns urinated on the Memorial as I recall. It was quite an honour to serve as a guard.

I am not indigenous but I am a Canadian Forces veteran and I know that First Nation members volunteered for service in Canada’s wars in greater numbers (as a percentage their population) than Canadians in general. They won medals for bravery in numbers again exceeding the general population. The First Nations with which I am familiar (many) revere their veterans and respect war memorials. Many band offices have photos of their veterans hanging on the walls. Our unknown soldier, whose tomb was just desecrated, may have been First Nation or Metis for all we know (He is unknown after all.) I believe there should be a 24/7 honour guard mounted at our National War Memorial, not to draw tourists, but to honour our war dead.

While the Swastika flag is a more appropriate symbol of modern day Turdholeland and its masters in the Liberal Party than the Liberal Party Maple Leaf flag, the swastika flag still has no place on the memorials of those that fought against National Socialism and Fascism. Put the swastika flag where it is better represented, for instance Parliament Hill or on top of CBC headquarters, or Peeair Turdholes grave, or Gerald Butts Mansion, Doug Fords house, but don’t sully the memory of those that fought against tyranny.

The guns carried by the guards there are fully loaded. With real ammunition. They are carried 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and have been since the 1930s or thereabouts.
It is a very somber, quiet and moving place to spend a bit time and consider the sacrifices so many have paid for our very fragile and perhaps fleeting freedoms that we may piddle away for just a bit of undeserved security.
