But to answer your question, Michaell Kovrig is a strong federal Liberal. Available Election Canada records show he has donated thousands of dollars to Trudeau’s party, including money to a local Ottawa constituency association. But he is still illegally held hostage.

We don’t have Guantanamo or anything like it to send anyone to. And we don’t have anything on Meng except the U.S. extradition request. She should have had special treatment: bail refused/revoked, close custody, and her case to the head of some judge’s line to get her out of our hands one way or the other. A travel warning to Canadians, “Do not visit China, do not do business in China. It’s a basic dictatorship, no rule of law, can’t help you if they decide to take you hostage.” Start revoking Chinese visas, freezing their assets here. It’s expensive, but it’s reality.

He was part of the diplomatic core and was in China as a consultant with very close librano ties (think laurentian elite). The chicoms grabbed him for a reason. They made a statement directly to the LPC with his arrest

I wouldn’t doubt it for a minute. There are allot of things China could have done to Canada as reprisal for Meng other that taking “businessmen” hostages. That would in fact derail their credibility with business worldwide, so why bother?
Regardless China is not a country you get into business with in the first place, that was the first biggest mistake the west made with them, along with making them the Dictatorial economic superpower in the first place.

The only reason these two are still alive is to give the pretense that they can be spared if the Canadian government does something.
The obvious “something” has to do with the bird in the guilded cage in Vancouver. The operative is that the release is only implied and never actually stated.
The two Mikes could be anyone, their use was only to force the compliance of a weak Canadian government. If it was a government less concerned about the optics of cooperating with the Trump administration, Meng would have been sent to New York not long after her arrest in Vancouver. However, the chicoms have made the measure of the current government and saw an easy mark. It will make no difference even if Meng is released from custody and leaves on the next plane to China, the two Mikes where never part of a negotiation tactic.

Sleepy Joe ably demonstrated his foreign policy acumen as Obama’s VP. He was (by his own admission) very effective in blackmailing Ukraine to fire it’s prosecutor or face the consequences of no US money. As both Bidens have deep ties ($$$) to China, let’s see what they can accomplish for our close ally Canada. I believe one phone call from Joe to Xi would do it.
