        1. While I was teaching, I had a student like that. She made it abundantly clear that I, her instructor, was obligated to show her “respect” while she felt no duty to show any to me.

          The student in question would be old enough now to be the mother of Miss Prissy from Calgary. She turned out to be an endless headache. Aside from displaying a sense of entitlement, she always had a lame excuse for not doing her work or simply misbehaving during my lectures. Unfortunately, her milquetoast department head let her get away with it and I was glad to be rid of her at the end of term.

          Whenever she carried on like that, I could only wonder where she acquired her attitude.

            That’s what I’ve heard. Had anybody tried those sorts of stunts when I was an undergrad more than 40 years ago, they would have been laughed at by their fellow students.

            I remember one of my fellow students who “forgot” to hand in his mid-term exam, slipping it under the prof’s door after we went through the solution during a subsequent lecture. The kid was quickly given the boot and I don’t know any of my classmates who had any sympathy for him. He knew the rules when he signed on and should have been prepared to take his lumps in an honourable fashion.

            Several years ago, I heard some radio interference on a ham band and I figured out that a nearby cellphone repeater was a nearby cellphone repeater. I called the federal government about it, asking whether an inspector could look into it as it might be considered to be a violation of the Radiocommunications Act.

            I was told that I should take it up with the company that operated the repeater as the inspectors were busy working on commercial and government matters. They didn’t have more because they couldn’t hire them.

            But, yes, in the post-secondary educational system, the kiddies can get away with just about anything nowadays. I often had hassles with them and, even though I was right, I was thrown to the wolves. It made the lives of the pantywaist administrators so much easier to do it that way and, if it cost me, so what?

      A half squad of National Guard on every block, backed up by mobile squads of police and more National Guard, even having a couple of HMMWV with medium machine guns available in each precinct.       Overwhelming force, and the looters just decide to go home. Looting is hard work, and if the man is right there, they cannot loot.

    2. I am annoyed at the media insisting thst Trump had a “peaceful protest crowd” busted up so he could have a photo op. They were not peaceful. They were throwing bricks, etc. burned a Church the day before. The Church became an important symbol of the wanton violence. In highlighting this, the President was communicating a message about the dangers of the mob behaviour. This is dismissed by media as a “photo op”. Media in encouraging anti-Trump demonstrations and dangerous mob behaviour are part of the problem. They seem to want to ramp up the anger — clearly hoping it lands on Trump. I wonder what kind of society they hope to create. When Justin says “Canadians” he means “Liberals.” In that party the two concepts are the same, you and I are “taxpayers” or on a really good day, “citizens.” So he only speaks for Liberals, and that’s about one third of the country. Now I’m pretty sure most NDP, Bloc and Green party supporters are anti-Trump too, but their leaders if asked the same questions would not try this mealy-mouthed approach, they would just plunge in and earn their Marxist credits for the day.

    In conservative Canadian political circles, I would imagine there is more sympathy for Trump’s position although I know he is not as widely admired as in the same part of the U.S. spectrum. But what he said and did yesterday was good, there was no attempt to play the stupid game of promising fundamental change to a situation that is under somebody else’s control anyway, it is the Democratic Party that holds any keys to changing how police work is done in large American cities, they control the politics in those cities and the police forces. They have had many, many years to make changes, in most cases, nothing has been done but also we realize that these police forces, even if poorly trained and sprinkled with a few psychopaths here and there, are up against a relentless crime wave that has to have a racial component simply because most of the people in the cities are non-white now, how could it be otherwise? White people would have to drive a long way to participate in any urban crime wave.

    In fact they just have done that very thing, driving from Portland to Minneapolis or Chicago apparently, to egg on the riots.

    Then some nabob in the media gets the idea that far-left white agitators are white supremacists (maybe they are in a sense) and starts that false flag rumour.

    I think Trudeau’s 21 second pause may have been due to brain circuits malfunctioning, he is not programmed to answer complicated questions, and that one was complex, if I recall, “what do you say about the situation (down there) and if you don’t say anything, what does that say about you?” … if I were him and were asked that question, I would say, “Glad you asked that question, I will get back to you tomorrow with an answer, and what that says about me is, I have to check with George Soros first as I don’t want to lose his cash sponsorship with the wrong reply.”

    I get Trump’s strategy: oppose the violent riots, looting and arson, and allow the Democratic Party and the establishment America to support the violence — which is what is transpiring. Then the American public, including most non-white Americans, will consider voting for Trump and Republicans. I get it, and of course I support the strategy.

    Having said that, Trump and the Republicans will lose all three houses this November. Why? Trump has too many enemies in high places, and the corporate media, et. al., will see to it that the Republicans are defeated. What many have misses is what then-President Obama created: a corrupt, Chicago-styled Democratic-party establishment writ large, covering all of America. Just like Republicans in the large, corrupt cities are marginalized, so are they are now nationwide. Trump opposes organized street crime and riots — Obama’s Democratic machines supports all of that.
