Staff in Ontario nursing homes were recording videos as they danced from COVID infected residents to those who were well.

Like the debacle in New York and elsewhere, the report reveals COVID-19 patients are being housed in care homes with the uninfected — while you’re scolded about racism and told to consider your next door neighbors as potential plague rats.

And that’s just the tip of the adult diaper.

Military personnel sent to nursing homes in Ontario have observed shocking conditions, including “blatant disregard” for infection control measures, mistreatment of residents and a level of care described as “horrible,” according to documents obtained by Global News.
 
Canadian Armed Forces teams deployed to five of the province’s worst-hit long-term care homes to help control COVID-19 have raised concerns about each of the facilities, describing the care as ranging from below best practices to “borderline abusive, if not abusive” and worse, the documents show.
 
Infection prevention and control measures were found to be a particular problem, with Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) protocols going unheeded by staff, many of whom were not properly trained, according to the documents obtained from a source familiar with the mission. […]
 
The documents obtained by Global News said soldiers had witnessed cockroaches, flies and rotten food, residents left in soiled diapers and crying out for help for lengthy periods without any response.
 
At one facility, residents had not been bathed in weeks, the documents alleged.
 
Staff at a Brampton nursing home allegedly recorded a Taylor Swift Dance Video showing them dancing through the facility, passing between areas deemed COVID-19 positive and negative without wearing any protective equipment, the documents claimed.
 
At a facility in Etobicoke that has experienced dozens of coronavirus deaths, residents who tested positive for COVID-19 shared rooms with uninfected residents, separated only by a curtain, the documents said.

    I would welcome some leadership and development of governing standards for staff and facilities.

    However, lately having spent a great deal of time with elderly relatives in the extended care / nursing home (both for profit and provincial) I would recommend that you stay in your own home as long as you possibly can. It doesn’t get any better when you move to old-folks prison.

  6. I hate to tell my friends to the north how this is going to shape out. There are a large number of studies showing Not for profit Care facilities have fewer violations than For profit care facilities (especially in Ontario). Guess what happens next….For profit care facilities get regulated and fined out of existence. Not for profit care facilities require a bigger cut of the pie from the government. Everyone pays more, the care stays the same.

    I’m just curious how a care facility can operate under those conditions without some sort of evaluation from the licensing board. I’m sure these conditions didn’t just develop overnight. So, either they aren’t doing inspections…or they are doing inspections and are falsifying their reporting. This might end up being a rather large scandal.

  8. Its a generational thing. My grandparents took care of my great-grandparents. Then the boomers/womens lib movement went to work. Now, there’s nobody home to watch the grandparents anymore so they shipped them off to retirement homes.
    On a side note, its also why kids who grew up in the 80s and beyond are fat…their mothers are working and not making wholesome meals.
    Thank God the government is here for us, though. What? Oh….

    1. Yes, parents, grandparents … died at home. That was the extent of their estate planning. But now we are richer than our kids.
      Families were larger and now the old folks are living longer. They become so frail they end up in a care unit, away from family.
      I’ll be able to sing “When I’m 64” this year still in good shape with no health issues.
      By 64 my dad had four heart attacks, an aortic aneurysm and one of two strokes, passing at 73.
      The old paradigm, retire at 65, die at 67 no longer valid. Now time in retirement nearly as long as time in workforce.
      Old people living longer are are new drain on the medical system, hanging around hospitals in their last years of life.
      Ultimately a good thing, but also hugely expensive, with the first wave of baby boomers, now in their 70s entering this system.
      So, we must fix this assisted care, nursing home system or else risk worse disaster. Sometimes the market fails, like this.

      1. I am going to try this again. I take great exception to your “drain on the medical system” comment. They paid for that system, we all pay for that system. I am older than many in these homes. I will never be in one because I have planned not to be. I worked and paid taxes in this country before the insane socialists took over and they have worked so hard to destroy everything, including the medical system, the bureaucracy is the drain. People were not dying in the streets before Tommy Douglas raised his evil head. In fact people were not dying in the streets all of Tommy’s life. He used that, as did the rest of the commies to gain control of the people. This whoowho flu should show anyone who actually has a sound mind just what has been done to us. STUPID STUPID CANADIANS.

          Reality is just that. If we don’t fix our medical system, market failure induced by government, we risk big problems.
          IOW, government caused the problem, so are not the solution. Let the market work, instead of outlawing it.

    I’m grateful my parents passed on in Merritt BC at a NH I have visited on numerous occasions where I found the staff to be professional, all of whom were for the most part RN’s…. with zero complaints from either mom or dad. They were as happy there as anywhere else.

    I cannot speak for any other NH anywhere in the country.

      I am sure the same situation exists in Quebec, but if so, you will not hear a peep about it.

    One can consider it as the last scam before you die.

    Sister in law was in a facility like that with brain cancer, the cost was even $8000 a month.
    It was a rather nice facility to look at and the food was good.
    The help staff was 100% from those that came over to enrich Canadians with their presence. If you go by the reports, they work only a few hours in one place and then they go to another one.
    The pay is not the best, though I don’t know.
    She had to actually get her own toilet paper. Could not believe it, $8000 can’t buy you a toilet paper.
    It is true that there are places that are less expansive and people chose what they want if they have the means. So that is neither here nor there.
    Just curious, who is scamming the big bucks.

    Now there are rumors from the eNDeePee and other socialist/fascist parties that these places should be taken over by the government.
    That will show them.
    Though the first thing first.
    Strike.
    More pay, at least $25 or more an hour and more union workers so they will have to work less.

    If there is anything positive out of this crazy time shedding light on this is it. Those responsible for operating these shit holes called “homes” should be sued out of business.

  16. The horrible nightmare that is our long term care facilities has been around for decades. The useless, incompetent media failed to ‘speak truth to power’ about this for year after year. The media are failures; biased and dumb. The second elephant in the room is the diversity of the staff who we cannot talk about for fear of (media driven) charges of racism, which, when yowled out by vindictive know nothings, can screw up your job, career, and business. The media wants to be Bolshevik; the incompetent staff and fiend owners of these dank hell holes are in a symbiotic relationship with the Bolsheviks. They vote Bolshevik; the give money to the Bolshevik political machine. Nothing is going to happen about these places; the wise and caring will keep their family at home.

  17. A friend of mine was in the hospital at the very beginning of all this. She had breast cancer and was undergoing a mastectomy. As a result she had to stay in recovery for several days. At one point they thought she might have COVID-19. As a result, the “heroes” working at the hospital refused to bring her meals for fear of catching the virus. She missed several meals and visitations were so restricted her family couldn’t always get in to bring her something to eat.

    Revera Inc is described as a “private company”. Its a big player in Canadian senior care.

    Revera Inc is 100% owned by Canadian Federal government through the Fed Gov employee pension plan (about $160 billion in size)

    Its my understanding the Treasury Board Cabinet Minister controls Revera board members through its authority to appoint the board.

    There will be a Union & Librano & Watermelon media push for more Federal government control of this industry, when in fact it already has a major footprint here through this & other government creatures.

    1. In Waterloo Region – about 560,000 population, we have had a total of 113 covid deaths. 50 of which were at Forest Heights Revera, a single home.

      Another thing is that if you have an issue, there is a no fault situation for the federal scam.
      You can take the issue with the government, they will tell you that its run by independent board of directors.

  21. No mention of the rampant thefts that happen in these facilities by staffers. My grandmother had brand new sheets, jewelry and even books stolen. Some of it’s other residents too but we caught staff red handed. If you ever have a family member in one of these places keep that in mind.
