This is way over my head plus, …. I don’t like most of the people presented.
The faces distort and “shapeshift” into reptilian and scary forms. Theoretically by distracting our focus in a moving image we can be tricked into seeing a shapeshifting reptilian.
Downthread a poster name Reniat explains it – by staring at the cross you force your brain only to use it’s peripheral vision “subprocessor” to do all the work and it does a crappy job. When you stare directly at one of the images the full capability of your eyes and visual cortex process it without difficulty…looks normal. In fact when you stare at one image, there is less distortion in the other image because the peripheral processor is doing its intended job – processing peripheral imagery only, not trying to carry the whole load.
This phenomenon should be of particular interest to motorcycle riders.

Well we know this. The eye and further up the optical network is based upon a sort of AI learning, which is just pattern matching in a hierarchy of levels. The training loop takes around 1/16th -1/20th of a second per level, which is why moving pictures appear to move gracefully. People tend to think of the brain as an electronic computer but in fact it is an electro-chemical machine and signals pass from node to node slowly.

The World of ones & zeros (binary) misses the truth when “phase” is ignored… The next Generation of Computers may be able to compute the “three” necessary components…. Until then an Analog input stage MAY allow for reasonable conversion & comparisons… We do phase scans like CT scan & Astrology light spectrum….Why not the stupid “power” Models used to predict thermal heat & infection rates
