Why this blog?
Until this moment I have been forced to listen while media and politicians alike have told me "what Canadians think". In all that time they never once asked.
This is just the voice of an ordinary Canadian yelling back at the radio -
"You don't speak for me."

Thank you for that one!
I recall that Grand National vividly.
At that time, I worked in an office where there were draws for races such as this. We had a group of guys who regularly bet on the horses and they noted that an elderly lady in another office had an uncanny knack of picking the Grand National winner in the office draw. They made a pact: whatever horse she drew, be it the favourite, or a rank outsider, they would all place a bet on that horse.
She drew Foinavon!!
When the guys heard that they laughed, but nevertheless placed their bets fully expecting to lose. I watched the race with a couple of them and when the pileup occurred they fell on the floor with a mixture of delight and surprise. This of course firmly cemented that lady’s reputation for picking a winner.
Being the office junior, and not being a betting man, I did not put anything on that horse. Sigh!
