I Want A New Country

Rex Murphy:

Teck Resources’ announcement that it is shelving its proposed Frontier oilsands mine is a political earthquake. It is the capstone of this government’s anti-oil and anti-Alberta policies. It shows that the turbulence of the past three weeks is about to be surpassed by something larger.

The cancellation follows the West Coast tanker ban, the stalled Trans Mountain and the Coastal GasLink pipelines, the rejection of Energy East and the dense thicket of always swelling regulations, assessments, protests and court cases. Teck is the last of a dark chain of projects that have been scrapped or strangled, which has resulted in billions of dollars being chased away from the country and tens of thousands of jobs aborted, while the Trudeau government danced and chattered away with its useless crusade against carbon-dioxide emissions. Rarely, if ever, has folly been granted such total rein, and incompetence a wider playground.

  1. “…while the Trudeau government danced and chattered away with its useless crusade against carbon-dioxide emissions..”

Between government and danced, insert: , supported by the NDP, Greens, and Scheer-the-steer and his Paris Climate Accorders,

    1. The answer is…

We are a environmental wacko nation of socialists where only 33% of the people will even consider voting for conservative politicians.

Come on Alberta and Saskatchewan. Get it done so the rest of us conservative Canadians can have a place to live.

      1. where only 33% of the people will even consider voting for conservative politicians

And even fewer people even consider casting a ballot. They don’t see it as their duty as citizens.

      2. “We are a environmental wacko nation of socialists where only 33% of the people will even consider voting for conservative politicians.”

The Marshmallow Experiment, done at Stanford University in the ’70s has been hailed as the most successful delayed gratification experiment ever done.
It discovered that 33% of people have the ability to delay gratification and 66% do not. The 33% who have the ability to delay gratification reap the benefits of planning and succeeding in life, and the 66% who cannot delay gratification are subject to spontaneous short term gratification at the expense of attaining later greater rewards.

Aaah! But if you’re one of the 66%, you vote for a political party that will rob Peter(33%) to pay Paul(66%).
Then you can be gratified at the expense of those who have delayed gratification to get a greater reward.
The 66% STEAL the productivity of the 33%. This is socialist politics in a nutshell.

Conservativism is, by it’s nature, able to delay immediate gratification to attain delayed later greater goals.
Hasty, in a hurry people, are rarely if ever conservatives. Conservatives lay a foundation before building a tower upon it.

        1. Ooz peoplekind like you don’t know what conservatism actually is, you fight against conservatism, as you did in the last election. You championed a fool like McScheep

    2. Biased Liberal media and disgruntled public sector both had a hand in this. They whipped up hatred for Harper and the public unthinkingly lapped it up. A grave error.

      1. and Scheep hiring Kantsella to denigrate a real conservative played NO part, what fool’s world do you live in??????

      2. And the secret Globalist dog Harper had an iron clad majority and could have axed the CBC instead he stood and pissed himself in his wool suit. Conservatives are worse than the openly communists and socialists. The Con Commies are back stabbing simpering POS.

    3. Blackie Le Groper caters to anyone East of Winnipeg, then Vancouver area too.
Alberta certainly never voted for Blackie, so fuck ’em.
His Regime will survive with GTA, Van, Maritimes & Montreal supporters.
      But Canada won’t survive Blackie.

      1. There were a few Liberal MPs in Alberta after Prinz Dummkopf’s ascension to the throne.

    4. Where did we go wrong?
High school eductaion which devolved to socialist state propaganda reinforced with the socialist CBC. How do I know these actors are socialist? Because they are paid for “by the government” AKA with money stolen from the populace.

    5. It is glaringly obvious to most people that Justin Trudeau was and is unfit to be Prime Minister, let alone an elected politician. Trust fund baby, part time drama teacher, snow board instructor, and practiced liar. Actually that last one was probably his best qualification for politics.

However, I always wondered why nobody ever dared question his mental competence. His mother (Margaret Trudeau) is well known to have Bipolar Disorder, for which there is no cure, only treatment, including drugs and other therapies. With BP often being hereditary, it seems to me that it is likely that Justin also has BP. It would surely explain much if not all of his behavior.

And if this is the case, shouldn’t Canadians know about this, and what, if any, treatments he is receiving. Mental health should be even more important than physical health. It’s probably asking too much of journalists to touch this ‘third rail’ – the Liberals might take away some of their funding. Much easier to harass someone who doesn’t want to march in every Gay Pride Parade in the country.

      1. Good Finn… no one ever questioned the mental state of crazy Peeair either… Peeairs parents knew there was something very wrong with little Peeair and sought psychiatric aid for their disturbed son when Peeair was at a very early age… it remains unclear why… he was under psychiatric care his whole life after that… Peeairs mental stability was never an issue during his political career as it was rarely if ever talked about in the public sphere, in fact its ignored to this day. No curiosity from academia or the shitheads in the Media. The public also remains largely disinterested in this disturbing fact. Like a lot of things with crazy Peeair, his fragile mental state is simply ignored, perhaps even purposefully. The glossy eyed blank stare of Justine the Turdhole ain’t just the look of a disoriented Meth head alcoholic thats for sure.

        1. “Like a lot of things with crazy Peeair, his fragile mental state is simply ignored, perhaps even purposefully.”

Purposely? I guess that would be why it was announced last year that the thick dossier they had on Mr. Fuddle Duddle was burned by the RCMP instead of being preserved for posterity in the National Archives. Huh.
The stink of corruption around the Trudeaus and the RCMP is a miasma.

      1. BOOM. That is the beginning of the indoctrination….
The educators have made a grave error, they should of considered who would wipe their asses in the hospital and seniors home.
        Their climate acolytes certainly won’t.

    6. I am too young to remember what came before Def the thief but all that came after don’t add up to light.

  2. Was in the local grocery this afternoon. Ran into 3 different women with whom I stopped and visited with. All 3 raised the issue of the state of things here in Alberta. When women are talking politics instead of their kids or grandchildren you know the discussion around kitchen has turned serious.

  3. Important semantic note…… there is NO such thing as a carbon tax. It is a Carbon Dioxide tax. A big Thank You to Rex for wording it that way.
“Carbon” connotes images of black smoke spewing from a Dickensian scene of squalor and pollution.
But that is not what we are dealing with.
“Carbon Dioxide” is a colorless, odorless gas comprising 0.04% of the atmosphere. According to the very scientists that the doomsday activists claim to believe, CO2 levels have been much higher in the past, and higher temperatures ( which may have preceded the CO2 levels, rather than been the result of them) have allowed lush forests and tropical conditions across much of the world.
Pre-human, totally natural, and creating quite a rich biosphere.
So when in debate…remember….NOT a carbon tax, but a carbon dioxide tax. That stuff that we exhale when we exercise.
Mebbe they should tax that, too??

    1. NOT a carbon tax, but a carbon dioxide tax. That stuff that we exhale when we exercise.
Mebbe they should tax that, too??

Sssshhhh! Not so loud! It’ll only give the government ideas!

    2. Worth noting that the human contribution to atmospheric CO2 is only 3.9% ( of the .04%). How could that small percentage possibly be profoundly impacting the climate? Most people do not know that. If they did, they would know they are being lied to.

      1. Canada is 2% of that. Do the math, if Canada went to zero emissions it would reduce CO2 (assuming nobody picks up slack, which of course they would) by 2% of .04% of anthropogenic (human) emissions = .00008% or 8 parts per billion.

Even if these watermelons are right about their childish theory, which they’re not, that would reduce 2 deg warming by .04 deg. That’s enough to shut down the country, so kleptocrats in China the rest of the world can feed off our carcass.

        1. Canada is zero emmisions. Our land absorbs more CO2 than we emit (though that will change under the immigration plan to raise our population to 100 million to “remain relevant”. In fact, when our fields are in growing season, global CO2 temporarily drops.

The Trudeau carbon tax is also the worst kind of tax for the stated purpose, as it causes a global increase. Any actual drop in demand is just because people are broke, and would result from any other tax as well. While our efficiently manufactured goods are taxed, Chinese goods with twice the energy investment for the same product are shipped across the world without the tax. We are subsidizing imports and penalizing exports, the exact opposite of the supposed benefits of the GST as a tax.

In the long run, the world is going to be run by those with an economy, and Canada will have no say in any of it as our economy will be crippled, we will be unable to invest in developing any of the tech needed for the future, and the world will suffer from yet another centrally planned environmental disaster, just like was found in every communist country after the wall came down.

      2. You are correct, but their response would be “Ah, but you are dealing in facts, numbers, and details. You must be a heartless, robotic conservative. We are more concerned with image, trendiness, heart, and Going with the Narrative.”

Well, they might not say that, but when you introduce Facts that do not support What People All Know, they assume you have been on some extremist website, and that therefore your words must be discounted.
Seriously, the average voter does not question the media. If you spin something different from the Media Monolithic Mantra, your words and mere facts do not count. When they hear something that challenges their current mantra, they simply discount the source. (See the media reaction to Project Veritas, or the Clinton email leaks – they don’t care about the content, they just attempt to vilify the source, regardless of whether the content is true or not.)

        1. No no no first timer, they are SAVING THE PLANET, a goal that would justify almost any number of billions of dead. Stalin, Mao and Hitler were pikers.

  4. CO2 is not only harmless in the present concentration, it is also direly necessary for plant productivity.
With higher CO2 concentration, plants can survive and produce at a higher rate than currently, and with less fertilizer.

Always follow the money trail! Nothing in the politics is political – it is always entirely financial.

Monsanto/Bayer and Dow sell fertilizer. They make trillions worldwilde from this line of business. If there was more CO2 in the atmosphere, they would miss quite a few billions, since CO2 is a free fertilizer. Corruption has reached incredible levels today.

    1. Sorry, but this carbon scam is a project of the left, not business. Btw, minerals and co2 are absorbed in essentially fixed proportion; CO2 is not a substitute for N-P-K. And, no, fertilizer manufacturers do not make “ trillions” from selling fertilizer.

    2. Carbon dioxide in the atmosphere is not free fertilizer. It is essential for plant growth, and more of it tends to enable more plant growth, but not on its own. More plant growth will require more of other nutrients, too, so more fertilizer would be needed.

If the general climate did warm, longer growing seasons would expand geographically towards the poles, and we might be growing fruit and vegetables for ourselves that we currently burn fossil fuels to import from elsewhere.

    3. Nothing in the politics is political – it is always entirely financial.

Not so; certainly in our current political & economic system it is but many political movements were not driven by money.

  5. Got calls this morning from two of my best clients outside Canada both talking about political risk and speculating about not doing any deals here for awhile. Didn’t know what to say even though it was the same conversation I’ve had countless times – about a country in Africa, the Middle East or S America.
Congrats Liberal voters, you’ve turned Canada into a third world country. Great job.

  6. Wonder how much press this will get east of Alberta. I’m guessing not a helluva lot – unless and until we turn the taps off. I understand they’re already running short of propane. Good start.

      1. Yeah, and how will that be transported? No, shipments from Total S.A. are probably already on their way.

  7. Great column by Rex Murphy. Trudles’ caucus would never have had the guts to go through with the carbon tax, if the CPC hadn’t already conceded the central point of Trudle’s argument for AGW. The CPCs approval of the Paris Accords is what killed the Frontier mine.

    1. Nothing in the politics is political – it is always entirely financial.

Not so; certainly in our current political & economic system it is but many political movements were not driven by money.

  8. I’m sure Ontario teachers regret being on strike right now. They’re missing their chance to portray this sad disintegration as an heroic crusade for environmental and aboriginal rights, while praising dear leader.
Never forget the years of effort the educational system has put into creating this disaster.

    1. They say Nixon opened up China. Trump opens up India and creates a counterweight to China. As a Commonwealther, I never understood why people didn’t understand that India is on our side. Trump’s speech was aimed as much at America as India; it was an introduction to India for Americans. Truly brilliant diplomacy.

With the UK following up, India can expect to be booming for the enxt few years.

      1. “I never understood why people didn’t understand that India is on our side.”

        a) maybe it’s because of all the close ties and weaponry India has been buying from Russia all these decades
        b) maybe it’s because somehow Pakistan, which is a bitter enemy of India, is considered an Ally of the U.S.A.

        1. Pakistan is not an ally of the US; they have a transactional relationship. And all the ways that matter, India is a virtual ally of the United States. It certainly has a common interest with the US in containing China.

    2. Hopefully, someone skilled in computer imaging manipulation can superimpose Trump’s head onto Trudeau’s prancing body when he was in India playing Mr. Dressup. With Trump already having a low opinion of Trudeau, this would go over quite well.

  9. Just hours later, the Alberta Supreme Court declared the Fed carbon tax illegal. Coincidence? I think not.

  10. Trudeau is a feckless nitwit but the Conservatives by selecting Scheer and not acting like an opposition as well as going along with the main message of the climate creeps are also to blame.

  11. The American Revolution was won by an initial minority of Americans. Why can’t the conservatives in Alberta and Saskatchewan break away and form their own country. Make a deal with Trump to build a pipeline to tie into getting their oil to Texas and the Gulf. Forget the west coast.

    1. “The American Revolution was won by an initial minority of Americans.”

Plus France, Spain, and Holand, all Great Powers at that time of the 1st American Civil War(1776), were fighting Great Britain at the same time.
Given that England is just 20 miles off the coast of continental Europe, she should be forgiven for considering her wars against the European Great Powers had priority over her revolting American colonies and letting them slip away.

      1. You should have been Lord North’s press secretary. At least you would have fooled some of the British people, right up to North’s resignation, which, historians agree, was forced by the surrender at Yorktown. ( Or did North let his control of events just slip away when he lost a vote of confidence?)

  12. I often wondered, given that natural resources and their development are the purview of the provincial government, why we in Alberta had to first seek approval from Ottawa. It wasn’t until I read the Buffalo Declaration that I learned resource development is indeed, the responsibility of the provinces EXCEPT for Alberta and Saskatchewan. Ottawa usurped that right in 1905.

  13. I’ve lost count of how many know-nothings I’ve met who are liberals simply because it makes them appear to be smart and sophisticated. They never want to debate or back up anything they believe with facts because they’ve learned that they get their asses handed to them when they try to show an informed conservative how smart they are. Generally it starts with an ignorant liberal starting a political rant about something they have only a superficial knowledge of and ends with a conservative routing their feeble arguments at every turn. Finally the clueless liberal will say something like, “ Can we please not talk about politics? “.
So calling yourself a liberal is akin to the scarecrow in The Wizard of Oz getting his diploma. It shows people how smart you are.

    1. You mean like Oz? They just jump immediately to name calling, and have never used a fact or rational argument? Yeah, I know the type well. Their Jimmies are still rustled from the Scheer loss, I guess.

All their arguments appear to boil down to “yes, we surrender in every battle, but we just haven’t surrendered correctly yet”. If you are going to delegate, then you must insist that your delegate faithfully carries out your instructions. If the delegate fails, pick a different one, or do it yourself.

    1. No, Trudeau will burn this country down, to please his special interest groups, his sycophants, and the UN.
He could be the white Mugabe!
That, or, the opposite. As a typical LIEberal, he could also throw bazillions at the problem to make it go away.
Either way, he sacrifices every Canadian for his vain personal gain.

      1. “He could be the white Mugabe!”

Some times he is, sometimes he’s just the French Mugabe. Depends on where he’s partying that day.

  14. Anyone else notice the media made sure the current Conservative Leader was forced out after the election, now you know why-to ensure a no confidence vote went no where. The media went after the Conservative leader to ensure Justine was safe for at least half a year, no matter who gets the job the media will protect the vicious leftwing parties with vigor and vim. The media set up the Conservative party and they did exactly as the slime stream media wanted them to do, I’d love to see them say no we’ll keep the guy we got and cancel their leadership challenge. The media would shite their pants in outrage, protecting Justice is their priority, Canada oh well it’s not really a nation.

    1. The media is part of the ruling elite. It simply played its role in keeping the riff-raff out.

    2. Ignore NME Garbage Man, Rose. Scheer took responsibility, did the Honorable thing, and resigned. He didn’t have to.
I’ve told you this not because I have ever been a Scheer supporter, which I have not, but because of the need to counter a lie and because these Bernier supporters have no idea what honor looks like and probably never will.

  15. Bang-on Rex. Kenney did a typical “Conservative” backslide today when in an otherwise good delivery, he had to agree with the climate hysteria crowd and their critical need to reduce “emissions”. Pretty hard to win the game when the leaders on your side agree with the premise of your opposition.

  16. Rex can turn a phrase;

“We don’t have a government in Ottawa; we have an Instagram page with executive authority”.

It’s true but sadly a skosh too long for a bumper sticker.

  17. Don’t celebrate too soon as this is a provincial court and this will be overruled by the Supreme court of Canada. They have already ruled in favour of the carbon tax before.

This victory will be short lived and hallow

  18. I’ll believe Rex Murphy is for real when he tells all about what he knows about the CBC and the Liberal Party.

We are a long way from that. I think he just drops these nuggets of wisdom into view to give a mysterious suggestion of how the world could function, then he goes back to being the house conservative. But every two or three months, yeah, he’s golden.

I don’t know how he can stand to walk into the building (assuming he lives elsewhere).

  19. So the Libs / Enviro whackjobs / Woketards etc are again doing things that harm our economy in Western Canada. And we deserve it! Because we’re stupid unenlightened Neandrafcsks, or something.

Serious question: how do we economically harm them? Really. I want to put a bunch of them out of work. Thousands and thousands of them. They need to really feel what drying up opportunities feel like, courtesy of their beliefs / voting history.

How might we deplorables accomplish this?

    1. Withold money and resources; cut the rail lines (in a politically acceptable way such as a tarnsfer tax,)

      Form a provincial police force.

  20. Nothing will change until there is a conservative leader who is willing to tell the left to FUCK OFF, loudly and publicly, and then double down every time they scream in outrage.

…but this is canaduh, so that’ll never happen.

  21. Canada is the new Venezuela. When they are chasing cats and dogs and eating each others pets in the cities I will laugh and laugh and laugh. Fifi come on in Fifi, Fifi where are you. Martha have you seen Fifi.

  22. The rot and infection of this country has gone too deep. Only way to save the West is to amputate the diseased parts. Western separation is the only way our children will have a future on this land. Personally I’m hoping for the best but for the first time seriously considering other countries. Very sad considering I’m metis.
