I’ve noticed that with myself. I grew up speaking German and English at home, with the latter being used more often. I’m rusty with my mother tongue, but I retained enough of it that I can generally make myself understood. I just need some opportunities to use it.
One of my relatives, however, was, like me, born in the old country. He can understand me if I speak German, but he can’t speak it.
Many years ago, I was required to translate some technical documents from German into English. I spent several weeks going through them and, by the time I finished, I was thinking almost exclusively in German and, at time, even spoke with an accent again. That was because I learned the language while I was young but that ability had remained dormant for much of my life.

Note that today New Brunswick was declared Canada’s poorest province, since we receive the most in per-capita equalization payments. Do not want to comment on that, but as a poor province housing prices to not rise by very much. Lots of vacancies around here.
David, there are 3 types of provinces.
1. B.C., Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, and Newfoundland which receive ~$1,500 per person in Federal transfers.
2. PEI, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, and Quebec which receive ~$4,200 per person.
3. NWT, Nunavut and Yukon which receive $27,000 + per person.
I could never figure out what the net transfers to the provinces are because you need to know the net Federal taxes (and other Fed taxes like the gas tax, the carbon tax, the payroll tax etc) that were paid to the Feds from each province.
BUT type 1 provinces typically pay more into the system (either paying or not receiving equalization payments), type 2 provinces get more out than they pay in (mainly in equalization payments) and type 3 are almost totally funded by the Federal government, having very little contributing revenue.
New Brunswick currently has 6000 jobs unfilled and is forecasting a need for 120,000 job seekers in the next 10 years.
You can buy almost livable homes for 100,000 and even less.
No crime. No traffic. Very low cost of living.
No earthquakes, fires, hurricanes, tornadoes, tsunamis, poisonous snakes or anything other than mostly timid brown bears and the Saint John river flooding.

I was trapped in Sudbury for years and every April the mass of snow piled up in my drive way would disappear without a trace of water.
Sublimation : the transfer of a solid directly into a gas, kind of like when my brother-in-law eats too many chicken wings.
I’ve seen that with my car.
I keep it under a cover and, during the winter, I often go downstairs to sweep the snow off it. The material is, for the most part, dark grey and, frequently, I’ve seen steam coming off it when the sun’s shining. The cover absorbs so much energy that any snow that happens to be left begins to sublimate, even though the ambient temperature can be well below freezing.
Sun melts ice? Who would have thought.
Actually even a kid can figure out it does, I did years ago.
I still enjoy a -25 February day when the ever increasing height of the sun in the sky starts melting ice on the truck grill, and along the edges of the house shingles, things facing directly south.

Apparently the cbc is going to bring the ‘hit’ comedy series Family Feud to Canadian tv. Exciting news. Maybe they haven’t noticed that Feud has been running 40(?) years in the US.
It continues to run to this day and Canadians who want to watch it already are.

Abtrapper, five years ago when my newly-married wife moved in to our house, we used to watch the U.S. version of Family Feud. I started to notice that the corrupt producers would purposely pit one black family against one white family, all of the time. I mean virtually ALL of the time. I mentioned to my wife how statistically improbable that was, and that doing so was a form of racism — this when at the time racial animosity in the U.S. was on the upswing. So after a few months or so, we decided not to watch the show given the racism involved.
At the time I Googled a few words about Family Feed being racist — as to why the Atlanta-based show pitted whites against blacks. At the time, the only internet discussion mention I could find was a few individuals complaining about it in discussion groups. Not one article by a journalist — conservative or otherwise — had called the show out on this practice. I might add that three-fourths of the time, the white families won. So why the producers did this is beyond me. The reason for this post is to highlight the absolute silence by other journalists. It’s indicative of how the corrupt media protect each other.
I wonder how the corrupt, racist CBC will handle their rather banal game show.

I was going to post about the new Star Wars film “The Rise of Skywalker”. Earlier CBC had a writeup about how great the film is with some interesting photos – mostly of a woman and a black guy. I’m not sure if Skywalker was female or black but CBC was really highlighting the lady, with a full-face photo at the top of the piece (which they have since removed).
Commentators who found the film underwhelming pointed to a number of problems: [snip] it was dull, according to Joshua Rothkopf of Time Out; and Entertainment Weekly’s Darren Franich called it a “zombie.”

I was trapped in Sudbury for years and every April the mass of snow piled up in my drive way would disappear without a trace of water.
Sublimation : the transfer of a solid directly into a gas, kind of like when my brother-in-law eats too many chicken wings.

I keep it under a cover and, during the winter, I often go downstairs to sweep the snow off it. The material is, for the most part, dark grey and, frequently, I’ve seen steam coming off it when the sun’s shining. The cover absorbs so much energy that any snow that happens to be left begins to sublimate, even though the ambient temperature can be well below freezing.
Sun melts ice? Who would have thought.
Actually even a kid can figure out it does, I did years ago.
I still enjoy a -25 February day when the ever increasing height of the sun in the sky starts melting ice on the truck grill, and along the edges of the house shingles, things facing directly south.

Apparently the cbc is going to bring the ‘hit’ comedy series Family Feud to Canadian tv. Exciting news. Maybe they haven’t noticed that Feud has been running 40(?) years in the US.
It continues to run to this day and Canadians who want to watch it already are.
I’ve never seen it. What would the Canadian themes be? Gutting a moose, canoeing the Mattawa or praise of Toronto?

Abtrapper, five years ago when my newly-married wife moved in to our house, we used to watch the U.S. version of Family Feud. I started to notice that the corrupt producers would purposely pit one black family against one white family, all of the time. I mean virtually ALL of the time. I mentioned to my wife how statistically improbable that was, and that doing so was a form of racism — this when at the time racial animosity in the U.S. was on the upswing. So after a few months or so, we decided not to watch the show given the racism involved.
At the time I Googled a few words about Family Feed being racist — as to why the Atlanta-based show pitted whites against blacks. At the time, the only internet discussion mention I could find was a few individuals complaining about it in discussion groups. Not one article by a journalist — conservative or otherwise — had called the show out on this practice. I might add that three-fourths of the time, the white families won. So why the producers did this is beyond me. The reason for this post is to highlight the absolute silence by other journalists. It’s indicative of how the corrupt media protect each other.
