The real reason Andrew Scheer was forced out now is Wexit.
It’s rate of support and potential for growth will reach a tipping point and soon. Two provinces have been legislated by Ottawa into undergoing a recession with no end in sight.
The growing support for Wexit is based on economic necessity in the prairies.
Alberta and Saskatchewan can’t recover without natural resource development: oil/gas/mining and agriculture.
Within a generation from now, there will be nothing in Toronto, and Vancouver that will be ethnically/culturally/politically Canadian. Unemployed/under-employed prairie people don’t see moving to Toronto or Vancouver, to give up being Canadian, as a viable future.
This is the glummest Christmas season, I’ve ever seen out there. Wexit would be a rebirth of what Canada was supposed to be.
It’s also the fastest way to economic recovery and, at least, part of Canada, remaining Canadian.
It’s the only thing that has instilled a sliver of fear into Ottawa and Quebec. Their little colony in the West is waving, but it’s not Hello !
Thrilled to get rid of “Dimples” really just Trudeau lite.
I’ve been telling the con donor drivers they won’t get a penny from me until Scheer is gone. I still ain’t giving them anything. They have demonstrated an obscene aptitude for caving to commies. The lot of them.
I’ll be donating to separatist parties and may continue to support Bernier as well. Bernier was the only man that stuck to any sort of conservative principles and didn’t start trembling and equivocating when the Rosie Bartons of canada started wagging their finger at him.
So the “We’re the LIberal Party Too” has decided to get rid of the Quebek Dairy Cartel leader… great… I wonder which Liberal will replace Scheerp… #WEXIT!
Quebec is GONE.. They are not stupid & every Federal Political multiculturalism agenda will be rejected by Quebec for good reason….. The Next leader needs to deal with a Canada without Quebec
The Ottawa Federal Government must be moved to Manitoba and if Canada wants to exist they need the WEST.
The next leader must drive a stake into nonsense and stand tall …..
JMHO
One thing is certain. The Cons will elect a loser as their next leader. Dief, Stanfield, Clark, that woman!, Sheer. Harper only won because of Adscam and the Orange Crush in kebec. Mulroney won because he is a Kebecer, otherwise, nada.
Rest assured they will pick someone like Lord, or Bisson or some other non descript, loser. Standby for the Trudeau dynasty. Blackface for another 12 – 16 years then his oldest son.
We are doomed unless Alberta and Sask and Quebec depart.
Blackface will not last that long. Even the Liberals are sick of him. He is an embarrassment.
Wonder if Brett Wilson would run. Saw him speak after the last election and he seemed to have good sense, emotion and most of all confidence.
Damn; this will keep the bitter clingers donating, won’t it.
This means the death of this version of the Progressive Conservatives, will be a long and drawn out process, and Trudeau two really will win more elections than Trudeau one…
The only issue that really matters is climate change. Having this fraudulent paradigm so prominent in our political discourse means that everything is based on lies and illusions.
Human beings are not as responsible for recent climate trends as is natural variability. I would estimate the human contribution is less than one third and possibly only 20%. In other words, most of these changes would take place whether we were here or not. Therefore it follows that the political “action plans” of various parties to change the weather back to what it “should be” is pointless and bound to fail. That implies that all economic decisions based on this flawed thinking will be bad decisions.
Good people are going to suffer needlessly because of the ego and stupidity of progressives tied to this fraud. In western Canada, they are already paying,, many with loss of their jobs and dignity. This is all so that idiots in the elitist establishment can feel added self-esteem when in fact they should be put in jail for fraud and perhaps even economic terrorism in some cases.
We need a conservative leader who can articulate these views. ..It is better to lose an election for speaking difficult truth, than to win after lying so that idiots hear what they want to hear. This is why I will support Max Bernier while he chooses to remain active in politics.
Yes, he stands on principle, which proves he actually has some.
I still don’t know what Scheer wanted to do if he had won. It wasn’t a hidden agenda, he appeared to have none at all.
Your estimates of the human impact are really high. CO2 is only .04% of earth’s atmosphere and of that, only 3.9% is man made. It is astonishing that so many people are fooled into thinking that human produced CO2 is changing the climate. It is just not feasible.
I see this as a bad thing, You see, Scheer was so epically terrible there was no chance of the CPC forming a majority, ever. So, they’ll have to pick another leader, which will give some people in the West hope.
Trouble is, the new leader will also attempt to pander to the left in urban Toronto/Montreal/Vancouver in an effort to gain media party and centre/left voter support, and will not do what needs to be done to make the hard course corrections that need to be made in order for Canada as a country to survive, so there is no hope.
As should be clear to any conservative now, no matter how hard you try, you will never please your enemy, and incrementalism does not work, you need to bring the sledgehammers and long swords to the game, and I don’t think the CPC will ever be prepared to do that.
So all I see happening here is a possible delay of the ultimate solution, which is the dissolution of what has become a farce of a country.
The king is dead long live the king.
Why should I care if the leader of the #2 part of the Uni-Party is quitting?
Scheer is just a symptom. He actually represented “Canadian Conservatives” very accurately, his only failing so far was losing that election.
There are no conservatives in Canada.
When did you last hear a politician say;”Stop the stealing”?
Apart from never?
None of these professional parasites wants to take their hand out of your pockets, nor lift their foot off of your neck.
Can-Ahh-Duh is done, no amount of changing the guard of the Liberals backup party is going to change the fiscal reality.
The cost of our “Helpers” exceeds the wealth of the “helped”.
And not one of our “Trust me,I want to be your leader” varmits has any desire to do what must be done.
95% of our “helpers” have to get a real job.
Try getting elected with that message.
So we are doomed, I can play that song too, doomed to fail.
Kleptocracy does not voluntarily reform itself.
Look at what passes for paths to wealth in Canada, the easiest most risk free choice?
Government Job.
Number one impediment to running a profitable business?
Government “help”.
Eventually the USA will absorb Venezuela North as this lawless, defenceless and bankrupt welfare state will be too much of a security risk,as the Gimmee Grants attempt to flee into their States.
And that rant is the optimistic view.
Western Independence is the only chance we have, to pass a better country on to our children’s children.
Well said
Your predictions I also agree with.
I want to die fighting for or in a actual free country.
What we have right now is almost tyranny, our time is winding down
Time to shit or get of the pot fellow freedom seeking patriots
Civil Disobedience is an analysis of the individual’s relationship to the state that focuses on why men obey governmental law even when they believed it to be unjust. But Civil Disobedience is not an essay of abstract theory. It is Thoreau’s extremely personal response to being imprisoned for breaking the law. He was arrested for not paying the taxes. One of his aunts paid the taxes and he was released from the jail the next morning. This one nights experience led him to write his most famous essay on “Civil Disobedience”.
According to Thoreau, conscience should be the guiding force of government or law. He gives the highest importance to conscience and the least importance to the majority. His whole concept of civil disobedience is based on the dictates of conscience. The human beings possess this conscience, not the animals. Since a state consists of human beings, the conscience should be the guiding force, not majority. Thoreau thinks that the majority in a so-called democratic state is permitted to rule for long, not because they are most likely to be in the right, but because they are physically the strongest. Thoreau says that conscience makes an individual strong and self-reliant.
This God gifted conscience should decide what is just and what unjust, not brute majority. That is why a man is a man first and secondly a citizen of state.
Thoreau further says that the masses of men serve the state, not mainly as men, but as machines.
They all constitute the army, police, militia, jailors etc. we see soldiers marching to wars, against their will and conscience. They do not exercise judgment or moral sense. Yet they are regarded as good citizens. But those who serve the state with conscience are commonly treated as enemies.
Thus, Thoreau has considered the relation between the state and the individual at different levels, and has convincingly shown that individual, and individual conscience should be the basis of a good state.
Scheer was Joe Clark and Kim Campbell’s love child. His testicles just had never developed or dropped yet.
It will be an interesting few months. Conservatives are famous for internal fighting to the point of destruction. Many would sooner win an argument than an election and form government.
So many factions sit in the conservative tent that agreement on most topics isn’t possible.
It’s entirely possible that when the smoke clears 3 parties will exist to split the ‘conservative ‘ vote and it will be 4 more years of libranos followed by 4 more.
Outsider like Mark Steyn, Ezra or the like that knows how corrupt the media and our politicians are and calls them on it.
That’s partially the appeal of the Ford’s and if it can work in the GTA it can work where regular people live too.
Hopefully Trudeau hangs on long enough that the west separating is the only option that makes sense, and a weak enough Conservative leader is elected to make it seem inevitable.
Rex Murphy.
I get a kick out of the comments that mention Maxime Bernier as a potential leader of the Conservatives. In the last election, Sheer won 122 seats, and won the popular vote over the Libs. by 239,712 votes. Bernier lost his own seat, got less than 300,000 votes in all of Canada. But yes sir, we’re gonna make him the next PM!!
Just go back and look how long it took Harper to win a majority in 2011, and a very weak one at that. I took 4 elections from 2004 to 2011 before the CPC became a majority. So why the hatred and negative attitude towards Scheer??
I suppose if Trudeau resigned and Stephane Dion or Michael Ignatieff led the Liberals, , the CPC might have a chance at a majority in the next election. My guess is that now that Scheer has resigned, Trudeau will be back in Ottawa with a majority, and very soon. Personally, I joined the Conservative party in 1968, just before Pierre Trudeau won his first election. Outside of Joe Clark’s less than a year term as PM in 1979-1980, it wasn’t until 1984 that we finally won a majority under Brian Mulroney. 16 years is a long time.
Good luck guys!!
Lots of Scheer complaints here but very little meaningful being offered by way of solutions.
I don’t think there is one. As I said when the news broke in the Reader Tips thread yesterday, I think the rift between the policies that AB/SK want, and the policies that ON/PQ want, is perilously close to irreconcilable. The centre of the country wants to go to the left. The west of the country wants to go to the right. Canada can’t do both, so it will do what it has always done, what is has been DESIGNED to do: what the centre wants, and to hell with the west.
Do you see ANY political leader capable of formulating policies on the major files that will satisfy both Alberta & Quebec? Saskatchewan and Toronto? That can also articulate those policies in such a way to win a majority of ridings across those four provinces? I don’t. I think the task may have grown so large that it’s beyond any one leader in our current governmental system. Absent a radical reform of the federal government (*), which simply isn’t in the cards (this country has no stomach for seriously examining its governing institutions)… the country is surely set on a path to either dissolution or stagnation. Or both.
Tangent: at this point I don’t think any of the other six provinces matter in determining the future of the country. BC has some western leanings but is run by its eco-nuts in the two big cities, so which side it would fall on is unpredictable. The other five simply aren’t big enough to matter for spit. And if SK ever tips back to the left, AB is on its own.
(*) – Australia’s model would be instructive here. Their House is similar to ours, so it will produce majorities and be biased towards the large population centers. Their Senate is also elected, though, and it’s equal by state (akin to province), so it balances out the House’s bias and provides reasonable check on federal policies to account for the differing desires of their states.
Can Max come back please?
I said it before, hopefully I won’t have to say it again.
Goodbye, Mister Scheer.
Write if you find work.
– And don’t let the door hit your @$$ on the way out.
Where do I chip-in my five bucks toward his one-way ticket home? Just make sure he’s in the cheap seats, or I won’t pay it.
Scheer leaving doesn’t mean much to me. I left the CPC as it is a central based party. These parties will never represent the West. Wexit will or at least establish a base of knowledge that the West can use to lead itself toward a separate country.
Here’s a thought: draft Jordan Peterson.
He’s expressed an interest in political office. He has the stature, and obviously connects with the public. Probably has passable French.
I hadn’t heard of Prof. Peterson having political aspirations… I think highly of him, and wouldn’t be surprised to hear him telling the Liberals to “go make your bed, damit” … lol
