Until some scientist with a reputation deflates their balloon with proof that either the warming is limited and inconsequential, or natural in origin therefore the strategy adopted is useless. Or if a large enough proportion of the existing climate science comes around to that point of view. The politicians are following what they believe to be “real proven science” even if perhaps some of them are cynical enough to think that maybe they are over-extending their hand but the goal (a socialist economy) is worth the effort.
If the science changes, the politics will follow because there are already vocal opponents active in politics and they need more credibility with a majority of voters to get traction. Pray for it because this won’t end well (and is a useless waste of time and money).
“The science is settled” therefore it won’t change. I know of many people that keep this outdated thinking that if we can only show them the real science then they will change their mind.

Even a cursory review of the “science ” in favor of cagw will show that it’s all based on crappy computer models that over estimate temp sensitivity to co2 by a large margin.

Correction – all economies are “energy-based”. When people go climate insane and the cost of energy then triples, as in Germany and SE Australia, then they will start to reconsider. Until then “this KoolAid tastes fine!” I am worried because many of my sensible responsible friends are citing the climate change mantra and it is an uphill battle to convince them otherwise.
Rational thought and courage no longer exist on the planet. The Minister of Environment, by definition must act as the Minister of Omniscience as the “environment” is everything and anything. This naturally elevates one to act as if he were with the Gods.
