Mose, what a great player. I discovered him while at university, about 1975, and had the great fortune to see him perform live one time. I wish I had seen him many more times, but I feel truly blessed to have that memory.
Your mind is on vacation is so apropos, on a daily basis. Groove on Mose.

Nice to hear contributors anecdotes about Mose.

* Abtrapperdude you’re the man. You got the party going in °☆*☆°yesterday’s thread! Hats off to you for the Mose Allison °*☆°song suggestion. Here’s one more entitled: “Seventh Son”
I was lucky enough to see Mose Allison live at Jazz Alley in Seattle by accident! I had tickets to see Miles Davis in Seattle at the Paramount and was not aware that the show had been rescheduled. Being in Seattle with hotel room booked and with my lovely date we decided to head on over to Jazz Alley (also had good food) and much to our delight, Mose was the act that evening. I believe that he had just received a Grammy nomination as well.
BTW … the Getty is one of my favorite places in the entire country. The buildings, the grounds, the collections … everything. Now who’s gonna scrub all the soot off those WHITE buildings ?
Great news. Of course, they are already blaming “global warming” not their total mismanagement of forestry. California has always had fires in wild forests (National Forests) but what has happened is due to three major causes:
1. Invasion of forest fires prone areas by developers. This one is on whoever authorizes all the supporting infrastructure: roads, power, water, sewage. Ironically, most likely that’s part of the “environmentalist” crowd.
2. Refusal to do controlled burns to reduce undergrowth that fuel uncontrollable fires. This one is definitely on the state government.
3. Like you said, infrastructure (power lines) way past “replace by” due date. This one is on PG&E.
None of that has to do with nonexistent CAGW.
The Getty is such a treasure. We used to visit a couple of times a year, being one of the must see places for out of town visitors. My wife taught at LAUSD and we could get free parking permits, and there is no admission charge. It has the advantage of being up on a knoll, and is easily defended, from fires as well as I suppose would be burglars. The white stone is supposedly fire retardant. Don’t worry, they can use tons of water (literally) to wash off the soot if they want to. The little that is left would only add to its “character.”
No, I am far from able to live in King James’ neighborhood, though I only live ten to thirty minutes (depending on traffic) down the hill in the basin. (I won’t be able to afford my house now.) UCLA Football has this promotion of 5% off for each TD (up to 25%) for ticket holders on the following day (Monday follows Saturday) in the Student Store on campus. It is easily accessible for me on one single bus. I went there yesterday and it felt much hotter than advertised temperature, maybe due to the fire. And the number of students walking around seems to be less than usual.
Yes, the Getty site seems quite “defensible” up on that promontory, however fires DO like to sweep up hills in a chimney effect.
As to your enumerated points:
1. “Developers” are not the problem. Building in “high fire zones” is simply going to happen, be it the canyons of the LA “desert” or the oak and pine forests of Northern CA. Unless! You believe we should get VERY serious about stacking and packing humans into ever greater densities. OK … let’s see Santa Monica eliminate their building height regulations … and start building highrises fronting the ocean … or Malibu. Never gonna happen.
However, the INFRASTRUCTURE part of the development equation is completely valid. Paradise was able to be developed at a shockingly high density … with inadequate roads. I don’t believe it was 100% due to topography, but a lack of political will in requiring developer-funded infrastructure. Which … if imposed may have made the Paradise development economically Infeasible.
2. Controlled burns AND selective logging. And let me add one more, oft forgotten en-vogue eco tenet … “Fire is natural”. The people-haters who work for ALL of our National and State Park Services, and Forest Services actually WANT the forests to BURN. They all stood in glee … rubbing their hands as a devastating fire swept through Yellowstone. I’ve seen the aftermath … it’s horrific. Whatever burns “need” to be made NEED to include HUMANS as viable elements of every ecosystem.
3. The three rules of CA incineration: Infrastructure, infrastructure, infrastructure. See my WSJ linked article below. The State of CA has diverted PG&E’s attention (and $B’s) away from their PRIMARY mission which is to provide CHEAP, RELIABLE, and SAFE power. Instead, the Utility has acted as a woke Warmist … propping up every Warmist proposition that’s come at them from Sacramento.
I don’t know if I mentioned it here earlier, but I had an evacuation order on Sunday due to a fire that was directly up wind from me. How did that fire start in my safe, static, suburban neighborhood? It was an exploding PG&E transformer which sparked a 10 ac. grassfire and consumed several buildings. Seems as though that particular neighborhood, less than 1mile from me didn’t have their power shut off, and just like clockwork … PG&E’s infrastructure BLEW UP. PG&E nearly incinerated my home … while my power was OFF. I will give credit to our local firefighters who were standing by with massive resources … including a fire retardant air tanker circling the skies that actually dropped fire retardant right here in my average suburban town! I’ve never seen THAT in my 64 years (most of which I’ve lived right here). The firefighters kept the fire from spreading despite really high winds.
I know my FREEZING Canadian friends don’t want to hear any more of my kevetching about a couple of power outages. Except to say MINE were manmade, err Sacramento-made … not normal acts of nature.
And just nowwwwww, the geniuses in charge of our “Emergency Services” are revealed to be incompetent as well. Suffice to say the best and the brightest don’t go into politics.
But even worse … are the overwhelming MAJORITY of leftist voters who keep putting these simpletons into power (pun fully intended) over our lives.
Kenji, I don’t mind hearing about your power outages. Then I say to my eco “friends”. What do we do when the power is off due to a windless snowy day when it’s -30C?
Hope you are able to cope with the situation until you can move.
CALGARY – “The largest pension fund in Norway has removed four Calgary-based companies from its investment list in an effort to cut ties with Alberta’s oilsands and meet worldwide greenhouse gas emissions targets.
Kommunal Landspensjonskasse (KLP) has removed Cenovus Energy Inc., Suncor Energy Inc., Imperial Oil Ltd. and Husky Energy.
The fund, which administers more than $81 billion USD in assets, said a full exit from the oilsands is ‘great news’ for environmentally friendly customers.
CTV News Chief Financial Commentator, Pattie Lovett-Reid, says the decision was made to reduce the fund’s tolerance threshold for companies with interests in the oilsands.
‘What they have indicated is they will not be investing in companies that derive more than five per cent of their revenue from the oilsands,’ said Lovett-Reid. ‘The reason being cited here is it’s not in line with oilsands activity with the Paris Climate Agreement.’ ”
As usual, Norway has no shame, being an exporter of gas and oil products, machinery and other products that include plastics, iron and steel.
I have said this before and will say it again, oil, coal and gas will be used until it is all gone, there will be no magic bullets to replace it. We have hundreds of years supply and we need it to survive. All the current so called sustainable solutions are not sustainable and cannot be created without the use of fossil fuels, only the very ignorant or very stupid would try and dispute that.
“oil, coal and gas will be used until it is all gone”
At the time we we be weaving textiles in the dark for our Asian masters.
scar, no, we will be dead.
Look at what they do, not what they say. The words are for the masses, but the investment choice is about the money. They are dumping the stocks because of Socks. They have no faith in the business climate in Canada, nor desire to watch their investment wiped out by government policy.
Norway is also over-represented in oil & gas investments and very sensitive to the price of oil. So some portfolio balancing with virtue signaling to help investors get back to sleep.
DM, you must know that those with the wealth have been raping Canada for about 200 years. The Ont/Quebec compact has been taking the wealth for this very long time. The average Canadians is as dumb as a bag of rocks and has no idea what truthful history says.
No I am missing my Baby Doll. Am visiting my kids and grandbabies. I am missing my Baby, the daughters poodle is missing her and jumped on my bed. Now I am wide awake and want to party.
Yes when I was a young man, would party and carouse until like 5 am. lay down for an hour and go to work. Swear all day that I would never do that again and by quitting time would be asking my friends hey where’s the party. Lets go.
Now in those days if you really wanted to party all night Montreal was the town. Me and a couple of buddies drove day and night to get to Montreal for Expo, we never made it to Expo to many all night clubs and wild French Ladies to chase. Ha Ha Ha.
Heck you called me out there Nancy. Nice Surprise with Mose. I enjoy jazz especially piano.
The summer of ’75…. I was between my sophomore and junior undergrad years. It was my second summer at the oil refinery/gas plant near where my parents were, this time working with the maintenance crews. The work was back-breaking and dirty, often dangerous, but I learned a lot that would later be useful after I got my B. Sc. It didn’t hurt that I worked a lot of overtime and could easily pay for a lot of books when I went back to university.
Summer of ’75…. Jive Talkin’ by the BeeGees and One of these Nights by the Eagles were on the charts as well.
Valdy Play Me A Rock and Roll Song – I like his “Let’s dance that old dance once more”, but I never could stand this song:
“Still I heard,
“Play me a Rock-and-Roll song…” “Don’t give me music that I don’t wanna’ hear!”
“Play me a Rock-and-Roll song…” “Shoulda’ stayed at home, with a BIG case o’ beer!”
“Play me a Rock-and-Roll song…”
” – Or don’t play me NO song at all!””
Sorry Valdy, no sympathy – this is one of the earliest “What’s WROOOOONG with you redneck trailer-trash?” songs. You’re trying to sing about something “meaningful” – to you – but that isn’t what your audience wants; and unlike you, they paid to be here. So by all means, make your way back to the country – but refund their admission. And don’t bother booking yourself in that town again, they won’t spend their dough to come see you.
“See you –
Can’t please everyone, so you’ve got to please yourself” – works a lot better when you aren’t counting-on their money providing your pleasure.
You slipped in a quote from Ricky Nelson’s ‘Garden Party’. Very clever.
– You familiar with the story on that song? Nelson went onstage in Madison Square Gardens for a big multi-group fifties rock retrospective, told the crowd “We’d like to play some of our new stuff for you now…” and promptly got boo’d off the stage when he did. That song was his “well $crew you too!” to the fans, but entertainers gotta’ entertain; and when you pay Madison Square Garden prices for a fifties retro, that’s kinda’ what you want to hear.
Ricky was a rock star. I loved his band. James Burton on guitar. Kids learning guitar are still trying to figure out his solos.
Hello Mary Lou, Fools Rush In – he set the bar high.
After Nelson’s death Burton went to Presley’s band and did all those Vegas shows.
Nelson had a smooth voice and killed it on the ballads. If you could dance you maybe could get in a dance to one of Ricky’s ballads with a high school cheerleader…. maybe ha. Musicians have a saying, ‘If you dance you gotta chance’. So many musicians are lousy dancers.
Nelson had a smooth voice and killed it on the ballads.
He was certainly better as a singer than he was as an actor. His performance in Rio Bravo was rather wooden and monotone.
Madison Square Gardens? Been there when I was about 6 yrs old. My oldest brothers wedding, and his Fiancé wanted me there. Her family was very wealthy.
I have the pictures to back this up. Anyways My brother who was a real Mountaineer and Cowboy and his intended took me to Swan Lake at the Madison Gardens. I would have obviously preferred wrestling or such to a bunch of big white geese with fancy pants riding them around, they wasted their money on me that night for sure. I am like what the H is this crap.
My brother made it up by giving me a real genuine NY switchblade. The real deal. After getting home and pulling it on my younger brother and sisters a few times. Just practice you know, it vanished. Poof.
The need for speed used to go crazy like this heading for the beach on a Friday night. Run the white line. Nothing as crazy as these new Death Machines https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0MytkMhMQb8
Did 160 in a friend’s Porsche years ago. She couldn’t drive a stick shift so they ‘forced’ me to drive it. I took it to the wedding we were going to. What a scary speed. It was so smooth! A Bugati? No thanks.
It’s a Ducati rather. My eyes are bugatti now!
G-night!
Had a Austin Healey Sprite, 2 seater, packed 9 party animals in that thing one night. But was doing 75 miles an hr. one night on a 2 lane and did a u turn at 75 for 1 second, I thought shit I just bought. What a feeling when we did not die. I was insane I guess, before I settled down. I did have a few bad car wrecks and wipe outs on bikes.

Never did know my top speed as I always wrapped it around to the pin. Ha Ha Ha Mystery’s of the Universe and never a seat belt. I used to have an old Meteor 1951 that I could get up to 90 in 2nd gear coming out of the Drive In Movie, yah I know whats a Drive In Movie. A lot of MC riding with no helmet. I ain’t like that no mor tho. I am a seatbelt Nazi with my grandkids.

John Prineville? Valdy? You guys are bringing back my memories, of the now-defunct Le Hibou coffeehouse in Ottawa. I was the janitor there during 1971-1972. Saw both play there. My hours were from 1:00 am to 3:00 am Fridays and Saturdays.
Awk! Should read John Prine. Samsung auto spell check run amok.
When I was 17 I went on a 60 mile round trip noon parts pickup trip with a friend’s sister’s boyfriend. Except for corners the big pig Chevy went 128 mph (205 kph) I don’t recall seat belts so I imagine if something went wrong, they would have been picking me out of the tulips with tweezers.
My Trans Am with a 455 did an easy 120 mph (192 kph) but the damn speedometer only went to 80 mph. After I had kids I started driving like an old woman.
Welcome to the People’s Democratic Republic of Canada
What is most striking about the election for this observer, living in Canada, is that many Canadian voters seemed indifferent to the fact that their culture is clearly shifting in a totalitarian direction.
I’ve long concluded that the only things that most Canadians care about are the NHL playoffs and Tim Hortons. Woe betide anyone who interrupts either one.
And cheap beeer.
Of course.
Among the many Ford is Hitler stories today, Blackie’s Globe and Mail has a couple of China is wonderful stories. China is excited that the Canadian military will participate in a sporting event there. China states that this proves that negative comments about China are meaningless. No word on whether our two kidnapped Canadians can watch the event. I wonder if Blackie is going to attend. He can dress up as a China man.
There was no word, from Trudeau’s media cartel, on the two Canadian pridoners-of-war during the entire election campaign. Strange that.
Maybe our very own HopSing aka of The Cartwright Family Fame. He would go over big with Canada’s huge Chinese population. “I pissee in soup” Ah so sorry.”
If Trudeau had been guilty of giving $16 Million to a bikini model, do you think the legions of NPC Lieberal drones would have hesitated from voting for him? I don’t.
I’m sure the Libranos would have used that against Andy the Scheep. (“See? Our party leader is a real man!”)
200 Million Muslims can’t be wrong.
Now get with the program and get behind that Harper appointed senator.
The Open Society Soros advocates for is neither Open because opposition to it needs to be ‘bent towards the right direction’ nor a society because it means the dissolution of culture, race, history and biology.
But let’s all vote globalist cuz Soros & Co. will let you keep those assault rifles.
Idiot tools.
Here’s poser:
“Canada will be a strong country when Canadians of all provinces feel at home in all parts of the country, and when they feel that all Canada belongs to them”.
Who said it?
I’d go further than that:
It will be a strong country if and when all professionals are free to practice their profession in all parts of the country. I am a P.Eng and I am only allowed to practice in the provinces where I am registered. I pay dues to all the Western provinces and a couple in the Maritimes which allows me to put a stamp on drawings in those places. Needless to say it would be nigh on impossible for me to register in Quebec. I am sure the same goes for other professions.
When I look at it, I really wonder if Canada is a country at all. The only documents I carry that are Canadian, rather than Ontario are my Passport, Pilot’s Licence and my Social Insurance card. Everything else just says Ontario. I was shocked when I received my first daughter’s birth certificate – the word Canada did not appear anywhere on it.
Sounds like something Trudeau would say…but I get the feeling that you are going to surprise us with the answer.
Yes, It was Pierre Trudeau who said it. We know how that turned out.
WEXIT PLATFORM
Written in CLEAR language.
Narrated in CLEAR language.
Well worth 21 minutes of your day.
I keep telling the WEXIT folks on twitter and email. UDI no negotiation on Ottawa terms. First you get the UDI and then you HAMMER THEM. That way WEXIT does not become BREXIT
Written by Max? (“Coulda had Max” – well, you have him!!!!)
Blackie’s Toronto Star is excited that the former ambassador to France will advise him on the transition to a new government. Because what better way to reach out to the West than to appoint someone who’s main interest is the French and Quebec.
“Reach out to the west” . If only they could find someone. Well maybe someone who agrees with what you want to hear. Even in our far from perfect system I believe the premiers of our “national assemblies ” just might be able to give you a hint. They were elected with a sizeable majority. Actually I believe they are prime ministers. And we are a distinct society. It’s time to take control of the narrative and the precedent has been set.
The word Premier is Fwench for Prime. And yes technically Premier are Prime Minister’s superior to the Premier Minister of Ottawa in all jurisdiction of Provincial Powers.
It has been ruled in law that the Crown is Devisable in this regard. Hence our own appointed Head of State the Lt. Gov. Each Province is supposed to be Sovereign in a Confederation. Which is what Canada is, not a Federation yet. If you read history after the Imperial Conference of leading up to the Statute of Westminister 1931 and the notes of those Conferences, with the passing into Law of the Statute of Westminister 1931. The colonies were to go back and create a Federation from the Provinces, with the consent of the citizens of each Province.
In fact since the Statute of Westminister 1931, the British Crown could no longer issue Letters Patent Authorizing a Gov. General. And has never done so to this day.
It was not until 1947 that the PM of Canada usurped this Royal Perogative and began issuing his own authorizing a Head of State. Somewhat shady and Illegal.
I wrote the GOV. Gen. Office a few years back, asking for a copy or facsimile of his Letters Patent and they refused. Although the Constitution demands they be posted publicly in Canada.
They would not do that as then we would know that the power of the Royal House of Windsor over Canada is a scam. Go ahead read the BNA and then ask for a copy.
Dang that poodle is on me every morning for some bacon. Even the Dang Poodle is taxing my Bacon dang Fwench. Sorry Mom.
That Silver Tongued Devil, Hey Don’t You Know I Am The Devil https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GdVMvYj0HAs
Watcher, I could care less how it happens – only that It DOES.
I think we need that FIREWALL first and I see Zero appetite from Kenney (nothing but a pandering FEDERALIST), whatsoever to bring that about – He’d rather dick around with some BS Constitutional Challenge in the Courts – Said courts filled with LIBERAL Apointees who will turn this into a decade of lawfare and squat will happen other than Alberta DIES…
We are Leaderless in Alberta and those currently in Edm will not support WEXIT whatsover. (Wheres Brett Wilson..??)
My feeling is that Saskatchewan will move first on this With Scott Moe in the Lead. His recent letter was bang on with some Big Time seriousnous as an undercurrent. He is from Saskatchewan and appears to have no aspirations of grandeur or the PM’s chair. Once they go, Alberta will have ZERO choice but to follow…or all hell will break loose here.
Nothing personal Steakman just my 2 cents. I sparred a bit with Brett Wilson on twitter, he believes in working on Ottawa’s terms. I don’t.
If you have not learned from watching BREXIT and voting over and over again in Federal elections then you are a slow learner.
UDI is a very BIG HAMMER. It is relatively easier number to attain than Ottawa’s 60% plus and they get to decide the question. The question has to suit their terms. Read the Clarity Act. Hell would freeze over before you attained Freedom working within the Ottawa system.
UDI legally all that is required is a 50% plus 1 majority. It ends all Treaty’s, and Federal influence in one stroke. UDI is how the USA was born. It is proven. Imagine negotiating with your sworn enemy and accepting all their terms of negotiation. Ridiculous. Alberta’s terms not Ottawa’s terms.
And yes to doing everything possible to kick Ottawa to hell off our porch and off the lawn. Our own Police, Our own APP vs CPP, scrap the Federal Provincial Fiscal Arrangements Act, that is the driver of Equalization and all other transfer of Provincial Powers of Taxation.
Serve notice that all National Parks in Alberta will now be Alberta National Parks, Alberta agreed to 10M acres plus in so called National Parks agreements with Ottawa, Quebec agreed to about 50,000 acres. And call them Alberta National Parks. Hire only Albertans for these parks.
And start blockading east and west roads and rail and shut down BC gas pipelines crossing Alberta. End all purchases from eastern Canada and BC as much as possible. Buy Albertan or Sask. or USA and tell them why. And refuse to hire Easterners. Also the Alberta AG must be a Separatist who refuses to enforce Federal law pertaining to firearms etc.
Hey I am cooking supper tonight. I am doing very thick smoked pork chops. I was thinking in the oven and some spuds chopped and fried in oil or baked in the oven with some herbs. Watcha got. Have no greens I forgot them when I shopped. Want to surprise my daughter.
Very thought provoking video. And yes Nature does not care and has no feelings one way or the other live or die, nature continues on. “Life and Death In the Mixing Bowl” Nature cares not about your thoughts or feelings or anything else you think is important. Humanity is not relevant at all in the large scheme or designs or changes of nature. Like pulling your hand from a bucket of water, the hole is quickly filled. Only in our own minds are we important. The day after our civilization falls nature will begin reclaiming our bones and our spaces and what we thought were immortal creations of man.
Yeah, we need to triple this country’s population, don’t we? Oh, they’ll all be of European descent, won’t they?
CBC NEWS: Doug Ford calls for national unity on return to legislature | Power & Politics
For our Western listeners, self declared Captain Canada had a big day at the re-opening of the Ontario Legislature.
“National unity is in a critical crisis as never before seen. We’ll work hard for Ontario and what’s good for Ontario is good for the rest of Canada.” The panel then spent 33 minutes talking about Ontario & how Ford will set a new tone and play nice with Ottawa.
There is no point to national unity in a post national state.
Update on Grand Solar Minimum. We are at 224 days in 2019 with no sunspots. This means a cold sun. Means less Degree Growing Days.
It is shaping up so far this year like The Dalton Solar Minimum in which millions starved to death globally. If it goes as predicted we could surpass the Dalton and end up at the Maunder Solar Minimum which was even worse.

My vision of Canada under Trudeau is like the Simpsons soccer riot where everyone is fighting over who gets to leave first.

Have a nice Tuesday!
Hey you are no better than me, party animal NR.

Some more songs featuring Paul Carrick:

Some clever lyrics in both pieces.
Valdy Play Me A Rock and Roll Song – I like his “Let’s dance that old dance once more”, but I never could stand this song:
“Still I heard,
“Play me a Rock-and-Roll song…”
“Don’t give me music that I don’t wanna’ hear!”
“Play me a Rock-and-Roll song…”
“Shoulda’ stayed at home, with a BIG case o’ beer!”
Yah he is a whiny B*tch with that tune, for some reason it got a lot of play tho.

Poof.

What is most striking about the election for this observer, living in Canada, is that many Canadian voters seemed indifferent to the fact that their culture is clearly shifting in a totalitarian direction.

Sorry Mom.
