  1. On a related note [because PS Knight’s specialty is electrical]… a few days ago I dropped into our local plumbing supply shop to purchase a few twenty-foot lengths of 1″ schedule 40 PVC water pipe. The helpful associate asked me, “CSA or non-CSA?”
“Well, it’s for a yard hydrant by my garden which strictly doesn’t need to be potable water… non-CSA I suppose. What’s the difference?”
“They’re basically the same. The non-CSA is still labelled for potable water, it just doesn’t say CSA and it’s less expensive. Come with me to the back and have a look.”
After loading up the non-CSA pipe and paying the bill I asked, just out of curiosity, how the prices compare. Non-CSA, forty-some cents a foot. CSA costs about three times as much! Same material, same quality, same 450 psi specification, same manufacturer. I smell a serious rip-off of Canadian consumers right here… WTF? How on earth can THREE LETTERS PRINTED IN BLACK INK be worth TWICE THE COST OF MANUFACTURING AND DISTRIBUTING AN UNDERLYING PRODUCT?

    1. The CSA one is required if you want to be covered by insurance.
If the insurance industry is involved things get exponential real fast.
The business needs insurance before it qualifies for the business license.
It only qualifies for insurance if it has the CSA rated or in some cases ULC rated installation.
Naturally in any multiple layer qualification process everyone gets a cut a da action …. if you get my meaning.

    2. The same is true for fire-rated/ULC steel doors. That little metal plate with the specified fire rating rivetted to the door frame will cost you an extra $200+ Funny also how the building inspector will withold your occupancy permit when these meaningless plates get painted over.

  2. You have to wonder why in an election year none of the candidates or their parties have latched on to this as an issue.

Who is the government supposed to work for again?
Oh yes, what was I thinking.
Its why the term “minister of the crown ” exists.
    Silly me.

    1. ah yes the royals.
despite the death toll which was not completely foreseeable, I remain delighted about the fact that pretty much all the revolutions since 1776 managed to oust a royal fambly. even 1979 eh?
privilege privilege privilege. fap. harumph harumph. pip pip old chap. . . . . . BANG.

took a while to find the czar and his brats but hey there nick MAYBE if you spent a weeeeeeeee bit of time figuring out how to better the std of living for MILLIONS instead of which tea set is apropos, well, 1917 would not have been so deadly.

the uber hard line fascist right wing will either finally realize it backfires when you leave NOTHING left for the working class, or they could very well become extinct like so many other ‘species’.

      1. hb, please inform me, just who constitutes “the uber hard line fascist right wing”? I believe you meant to say left wing communists who are disguised as liberal, NDP, and green freaks.

        1. owg: Im refering to the uber wealthy, the landed aristocracy, lords of the manor who by odds bigger than a monster lottery, wind up owning everything within 200 miles.
whilst the brats of the serfs shiver for lack of a shovel full of coal.
*those* the precursor of the hard line right wing.
example #2: nicaraugua and the somoaza fambly in cahoots with among others, the FACT the ceo
          of united fruit company was . . . . . waaaaaas . . . . . . . . . . . . . . brudder to the then director of . . . . . . of . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
the CIA !!! wheeee !!! yes !!!!! all in da fambly, keeping those pesky neo-slaves in their rightful station like the old country !!!!

THAT owg is what Im referring to, the centuries old practice of leaving NOTHING for the ones at the very bottom of the
economic pyramid (as in pyramid scheme or sumptin).
THAT is what gives your left wing communists the all important ‘foot in the door’ with promises of nirvana.

  3. When there’s a law holding you accountable and unaccountability on the part of Government violating same law; that’s called Tyranny.
