    1. One of the best bands from my youth.

And have I ever seen the rain? It seems there’s scarcely been a dry day this summer in central Alberta. It also seems to be that way each time I go to my house in NE B. C. It rained yesterday and it’s rained off and on today.

        1. Many years ago, I bought a CD compilation of CCR’s songs. I think that one is included in that set. It’s been a long time since I listened to that collection, so I might just have an excuse to do so.

When I was an undergrad, CCR was known mainly for the song Proud Mary. Just about every wall-of-sound bar band I heard back then had it in its repertoire and I swear every pizza joint I went to in those days had it on its jukebox playlist.

Of course, I can’t listen to Lookin’ Out My Back Door without thinking of this:

          1. In that movie, that music was in the drop-off scene in which Dude thought that they had paid the ransom, but it turned out that the bag contained Walter’s dirty laundry.

Ya gotta admit that was pretty funny!

      1. And they could (and should) have ended it gracefully (almost) with Infinity Wars.

The Bloc Québécois is welcoming the current leader of the Quebec COMMUNIST Party in its ranks.

An ideology responsible for the massacre of 100M people in the 20th century.

It is astounding that our political and intellectual elites consider this normal.

    1. A very perceptive depiction of the place of white supremacy in US mass shootings.

And a spectacular example of Media Misrepresentation and Disinformation!

Alternate reality is all the rage.

    1. Who cares what a fake, lying Fauxahontas says? She should just shuddup and get us all some sammiches.

  2. Today’s question. Will Trudeau’s loyal drooling media, ask Groper why taxpayers are paying for him to fly from B.C. to Newfoundland for a Liberal fundraiser. And how much does this increase his carbon footprint?

    1. I must say that I find the thought of all the anti-pipeliners going to jail because of their “environmental” policies rather appealing.

Oh…. that wouldn’t apply to them, now would it?

      1. I just added my vote to the poll. It seems nearly two thirds of those who responded are worried about that “climate change” hokum every day.

But keep this in mind: the website is for The Georgia Straight, one of the most notorious left-wing “alternate” publications. I remember when it started as an underground newspaper nearly 50 years ago, so I wouldn’t put much stock in whatever it presents.

    2. The first person to be charge should be Liz May.

The crime? Use of airplanes when electric vehicles were available.

  3. Last week, there were news stories about mini-golf in the nave of Rochester Cathedral and Lichfield Cathedral having an art installation celebrating the moon landing. https://nationalpost.com/news/world/cathedral-in-england-opens-indoor-mini-putt-course-catholics-tee-off-on-the-idea The choir of Lichfield Cathedral have even done a video of David Bowie’s Space Oddity. Not to be outdone, the ship of the Fens, Ely Cathedral, has proudly announced that it has acquired for temporary display Bansky’s The Grappling Hook which is in the form of a crucifix for the summer months. https://www.elycathedral.org/media-centre/press-releases/banksy-gets-his-hook-into-ely-cathedral

    1. Gordon Chang discussed that with John Batchelor on last night’s archived edition of Batchelor’s show.

  4. CCR played Woodstock.
    there’s a move afoot for a 50th reprise.
    I hope it doesnt happen.
today’s pop fans are liable to shoot each other as opposed to pass the reefer.
they will besmirch and taint the Woodstock legacy. I WANT the thing to fail and get cancelled.
maybe the 100th will get it right.

I did NOT go, unlike the many ‘millions’ who ‘did’.
instead, a bunch of us living in a hippie house organized a very successful free concert at the end of August.
each of us did their part, Gord had contacts with the musicians’ union, Bob was skilled at silk screen and
churned out umpteen posters (gawd I wish I kept one).
the parents handle the food concession.
I was the electrician. 17 and I knew that when the bass whammed and the lead guitar did a chord, it might pop the 15 amp fuse.
I knew about ‘duty cycle’ already, and knew I could substitute a 20 amp in the 15 amp circuit since 99% of the time the current was less than 15, only those rare and brief points where it would jump up but stay less than 20.
the nite of the concert I had a nap.
suddenly . . . . . silence. I bolted awake, KNEW what happened and popped another 20 amp fuse in the panel.
then went outside to take in the closing acts.
oh lordy did we ever get shyt on sunday from the folks running the place ( it was officially a non-denominational church)
the place is long gone, I wish I took more pics, but the images, and experience has stayed with me forever.

I blinked and 50 years passed.
not all hippies are/were leftist twits. I detest violence and always have, but if I had my druthers,
I would relish the chance to dish it out in 39-45. it is NOT the attack that riles me so much as the situation
FORCES me to resort to that thing I detest so much. well, hb, make bloody sure they get the message.

peace love and freedom. NOT ‘peace at any cost’, NOT narcissistic self-love, NOT freedom to do w-ever-the-f.
because ‘peace at any cost’ WILL cost you item 3.
and a reminder, I am a zealous proponent of nuclear deterrence, having unwittingly employed it myself dealing with the
local hitler yout’ at 12 years of age.

“I have no intention whatsoever of voting for Tweedledumb or Tweedledumber. I want a genuinely conservative party to vote for, and for the first time in a long time, with the rise of “Mad Max” @MaximeBernier and his PPC, we now have one.”

For far too many years we have been asked to choose between two parties, neither of which will truly represent the wishes of the people. It’s time to stand up and be counted

  6. Sorry for the inconvenience, common sense will prevail

What a sad weekend. I just finished watching the President of the United States give his condolences to the families of the victims of the El Paso Walmart Shooting, and the Dayton Ohio Shooting. It is a tragedy for those families. It is a tragedy for Mexico, and the United States of America. It is indeed such a sad day, and time in the history of the world.
The worst sort of monster shoots up random people, that it is the fact that insanity is obviously involved. One of these shooters even shot his own sister. It is terribly sad. We are lucky that at least he was not able to continue shooting, because quick acting law enforcement was able to kill him within a minute of his attack in Dayton.

Hopefully service will be restored shortly. Again my thoughts and prayers are for the victims of violence everywhere.

  7. Great news for Trudeau lovers in Newfoundland. After Justin attends his fundraiser where he will rant about evil Scheer and Ford, he is staying for another day. Yes taxpayers are overjoyed that they will be paying for his fancy hotel room, wining and dining, as he attends the St. Johns Regatta Wednesday.

  8. Dance celebrating gay sexual behavior in church sanctuary shows what God sees in the hearts of many priests

WARNING: The following article and video contain disturbing content and show a sacrilegious event inside a Catholic church.

August 5, 2019 (LifeSiteNews) – A video now making the rounds on social media shows two scantily clad men performing a homoerotic dance in the magnificent sanctuary of Saint Peter Apostle Church in Montreal.

The two dancers perform to Jeff Buckley’s sexualized adaptation of the song “Hallelujah” by Leonard Cohen, according to gloria.tv, which first called attention to the disturbing three-minute video.

  9. How Google threatens your children

    STORY AT-A-GLANCE

More than half of American K-12 schools use Chromebooks and Google apps, allowing Google to build brand loyalty from an early age

Google’s primary business is tracking, compiling, storing and selling personal data. By capturing children at an early age, it will be able to build the most comprehensive personality profiles of the population ever conceived

By the time these children have grown into adulthood, every single preference, thought, belief and proclivity will be known about them, which will make them extremely vulnerable to manipulation

Google allows hundreds of third-party software developers to access the emails of Gmail users, and they’re not just using software to scan for keywords. In some cases, employees are actually reading the emails

By default, Google Chrome allows any and all tracker cookies to follow your every move online
