An ambassador to the United States of any western country needs to understand who his country’s real friends are, and to be able to cultivate a relationship with the US accordingly.
Pray that the next prime minister, Nigel Farage, appoints such a man to be Britain’s man in DC.
And pray that He bless and keep the man who exposed Sir Kim.
Nigel Farage has the clarity, and the absolute devotion to Britain necessary to be an excellent prime minister. He is the only one pushing Brexit , and he is up against the entire political establishment.

Darroch was a professional. The problem is professionals at his level who are like that, and at lower levels are like whoever thought they should act on their own opinion that it would do any kind of “good” to leak the Ambassador’s communications.

If he wasn’t a political hack, that he is, he would have worded things differently and noted that Trump was being boxed in by leftist stupidity. He only bad mouthed Trump, and left all and any analysis of the issues out. Ambassadors need to be well informed of ALL aspects on an issue. Some one smarter than the assbassador leaked his BS because it was BS.

Absolutely. But as one more than a little familiar with the odd Foreign Affairs, er, Global Affairs diptel in my time, I can tell you that ambassadors do have an annoyingly bad habit of conflating their personal opinion with professional assessment.
Of course an ambassador isn’t there to flatter the host country, but neither is he or she there to disparage it as an end in itself. Reporting involves a dispassionate account of what’s going on, and its possible implications for your own country’s national interests. Not liking Donald Trump or his administration is not grounds for advising your own government on the US.
In an age when Wikileaks could publish your little UK Eyes Only rant in a flash, it’s probably a good idea to tighten up the text and ditch the ad hominems and pet peeves.
As for President Trump’s response, that should simply be ignored; it’s strictly clever fodder for US public consumption. The gang over at Foggy Bottom is unlikely to be any more competent or objective in its reporting than the anointed ones of the FCO (or our own sorry “mandarins” over on Sussex Drive or, for that matter, the diplomatic class of any country).
The Brits should have better security when e-mailing to head office.

Darroch’s emails were lazy repetitions of the Washington press’s talking points. In case you missed it Mueller, destroyed all the malign accusations which they made up out of thin air. It will be interesting when the FISA court judges finding that they were lied to in the requests for wiretaps on the President result in more indictments of Obama’s FBI appointees, and other high level Dems.
At least in his own view, and I suppose yours. His message was used by the media yo embarrass the President. He deserves to be shown the door.

Exactly. The sense of entitlement oozing from every statement coming from the Foreign Office is shocking. No where do they acknowledge how poorly this self-important clown has served Britain, or the Queen, nor the importance of sending someone the American president feels they could work with.
Nigel Farage put it in a nutshell what he said Darroch should have been replaced the minute Donald Trump was elected President. No on becomes ambassador until their credentials are accepted by the foreign power to which they are posted. It is a two way street.
He served the United Kingdom and the Crown by telling them the truth about Trump (and his administration) as he saw it. It is the person who leaked the e-mails who has ill-served their country.
Darroch said “ the worst cannot be ruled out “ with respect to allegations of Russian collusion. That is a statement of the same form as this one: “ With respect to allegations that Kim Darroch has been involved in a pedophile ring since he came to Washington, the worst can not be ruled out “. It is impossible to disprove either statement.
Of course in the absence of proof, you look to the available evidence and try to reach a conclusion. As we know the Mueller investigation found no evidence of collusion. What we do know is that Donald Trump’s policies as President have been the most anti-Russian of any President since Ronald Reagan, making the claim of collusion absurd. (And we also know that all the evidence points to the allegations as merely a huge disinformation campaign of pure lies created to destroy the elected President of the United States, by the losing Democrats. )
Darroch is an intelligent man. His email about collusion was untruthful, and he knew it.
Shame on him for this disservice to Britain, and the Queen.
Good comment. I read somewhere that Trump is never the first to attack, but retaliates with viciousness when he is attacked. So I have been watching to see if this is true (his not being the first attacker) and it seems to be true. Both Trudeau and Freeland went after Trump with insults first. Same situation here.

It’s interesting to see when one gets caught in their ineptness over disparaging remarks, they thank everyone that supported that behaviour rather than apologize to the one they wronged.

The documents leaked refer to Epstein’s friends/clients including “.. a well known PM and other world leaders.” So obviously that excludes our current PM who may be described as well known but certainly not as a world leader. If he ever was involved it will turn out to have been over thirty years ago, as one of the minors trafficked.

P.S. For those who say he called them as he saw them in private memos. If so, he is a terrible judge of character and events, and was in way over his head. Such a terrible administration, as he claims, surely had accomplished such a lot against such strong winds, as even he himself wishes to provide. Holding such views as he does, I am sure he was not able to completely hide his disdain for our president in his dealings way before this leak. Definitely not a good “diplomat.”
