Quebec Joins Saskatchewan In Carbon Tax Challenge

In a shocking turn around, François Legault’s Quebec will intervene on behalf of Saskatchewan to challenge the federal carbon tax in the supreme court alongside Premier Scott Moe.

Quebec would be the latest province to join Ontario, Manitoba, New Brunswick, Alberta and Saskatchewan to challenge the federal government’s levy as unconstitutional.

The provincial government announced the decision in a press release earlier today.

I wonder what they want.

  1. The Spawn will come through for them. Perhaps he will promise them all the proceeds from his Carbon tax on the ROC. That would be consistent and not unusual.

  2. Oh? Premier Legault wants more money?
    Right.
    They’re our first citizens.

  3. A carbon tax to be levied only on the English and the Jews.

A rebate big enough to allow every French Canadian to spend the week of St-Jean so drunk they start shouting “Long live the Jews! Gas free Québec!”

    What do I win?

  4. Here’s the deal.
    Methinks.
Don’t know the arguments, the media cartel hide them.
Just curious, would it not be illegal to single out a province or two for taxation and leave other provinces out of it?
After all, provinces rule over their pile of excrement and the federal government over a different pile.
It is as though the federal dirt bags simply decide which province to tax for this or that and other provinces not.
Does not sound like a federal country, more of a fascist dictatorship.
The reason for taxation is irrelevant in this case.
It is possible that Q’bec politicos don’t want that to happen, which thing would not happen to Q’bec, the politicians of any stripe and persuasion would not have the guts to do it.
So what would be the reason?
There is a reason, something that has not been stated.

  5. Quebec is just using autonomy for leverage again. The West needs to learn from Quebec.
Always oppose Canada and get what you can in the process. It really is raw democracy in action. Conservatives in the West just can’t bring themselves to play the game.
They have noble sentiments…Quebec has power.

    1. Well said Jeff…Quebec wants it’s provincial sovereign rights… The ROC just wants to belong to the Federal collection of lost soul Tribes…..Easy to control that flock of sheep….If each province stood up for their sovereign rights Canada would function better without friction & more individual fairness……

  6. EST ti, tabernac…oui are sweating le transfer payments now, si voir ….Donne moi le transfer dargent….vite! Est ti la…etc…

  7. I say let them fight.

Justin has irritated Quebec so far. If he pushes too hard, he might lose some votes there.

The same with Prince Edward Island.

This could be fun to watch.

  8. Even Quebec can see how this, carbon tax but not a tax can snowball to total Federal domination of the Provinces,we are already there with the first courts finding for the feds, a fee on pollution, graduated just like a tax,is constitutional when applied unevenly across the country.
And the idiocy of the court goes deep, somehow they found “The Science” is incontravertable.
How did the Provincial Appeals Court become qualified to adjudicate science they did not have in evidence?
More proof we have no rule of law in this kleptocracy.

  9. The feds may have figured out that one of the Provinces is going to succeed. They will have a fall back position in the event that happens (Scheer has already said if he forms government the carbon tax is gone.) It will probably be more onerous than the carbon tax but quebekkie will not be hurt. In fact they will benefit and that is why they (the feds) advised quebek to get on board?

I don’t know what it is but you can rest assured there is nothing in this for TROC.

  10. “I wonder what they want?” is right.

I smell a rat. I don’t trust them any further than I can throw them.

  11. The lazy ants have to keep milking their herd of aphids.
    F’cken french parasites.

  12. Tell good old Frank Lego to go pound sand. There is no more extortion to be paid around here. He must think we are all rubes for him to screw over. To hell with him and his Kaybekers.

  13. Let’s assume that the carbon tax succeeds in reducing carbon emissions. Poof, down goes government income from carbon tax, gasoline tax, royalties, income tax (loss of jobs in energy industry) etc.

What is the next tax target? Electricity!

I think that is one of the things Quebec is afraid of.

    1. Plus provincial expenses rise dispropotrtionately. All those big energy inefficient institutions. Schools, hospitals, justice, road maintenance. All the public unions demanding raises due to the cost of living rising

    2. Hmmm…I think it would take at least 10-15 hits of White Blotter for me to actually believe CO2 taxation does ANYTHING…..other than to MT Our pockets in order to fill Liberal pockets such as to provide their favourite Demographic Billions of Dollars in order such that they can continue their aspirations of a Western Kaliphate…via unfettered in-migration.

The “Vehicle” funded by you n me.

The CO2 TAX has SFA to do with Climate – Environment – Pollution.
If in doubt, start at the top and read again….

  14. Quebec sees the end of Justin’s reign. The incoming party would scrap the carbon tax which would put pressure on Quebec’s cap and trade system. Sit back and wait, or go on the offensive? The people of Quebec love their made-in-Quebec taxes.

    1. “The people of Quebec love their made-in-Quebec taxes.”

The French love the crushing taxes only the English and the Jews are forced to pay so the French can spend forty years in retirement in Florida, which has no income tax, no definable winter, and lots of cheap alcohol.

  15. The logic/reason is pretty basic and blatant: Quebec just can’t stand the thought that potential tax revenue might be exploited by anyone other than themselves. They want the exclusive right to pickpocket. No sense having piastres going to the feds when you could use them to buy votes for yourself.

  16. New Brunswick has announced it is dropping it’s challenge to the carbon tax. They will continue with intervenor status on the SK challenge.

  17. This is what Quebecor media are saying about Legault’s move, translated:

What a contrast to the last few months, when Mr. Legault, on the contrary, seems to have done everything to make the Dominion MP family more functional.

First, he backpedaled on his denunciation last fall of the “dirty oil” of the West, which had raised the ire of the western premiers. Since the beginning of 2019, Mr. Legault has always refused to use these words, which he described as “badly chosen”. Moreover, he strongly supported the “Gazoduq” project of 750 km that would lead to Saguenay and allow the export of gas from the West.

But it was yesterday that the most favorable news for the council’s harmony fell: the Legault government announced that it will intervene, on the Saskatchewan side, in the challenge of the federal carbon tax.

Scott Moe, the premier of the ” land of living skies “, was thrilled with joy, it is said. So much so that the Western MPs, who met before the Council of the Federation, gave up adopting a resolution against the Secularism Act, 21 which was proposed by Brian Pallister, PM of Manitoba, who said he saw a “threat to our freedoms and our reputation as a country”.

When asked about it, the MPs of the West will simply say that they would not adopt a similar law, but that it is Quebec’s business.
