Let me ask, if you were a Western Canadian, and your own government put in laws that stop you from being able to “use your head and your feet” to doing something for the world that you see as a great thing, how would you think, feel and SEE things? What would you think or feel if you SEE that your own federal government didn’t support you, forgets about you, or doesn’t really care about you?
It’s a long and detailed blog post. so grab a coffee.

I’ll read it later in the day when I have time, but I am for western independence and have been so since the 1980s. The Laurentian Elite have tried too many times to destroy the west’s economy for me to have any allegiance to Ottawa and has permanently alienated me.
I still have my Queen’s Commission hanging in my office because her representative, the Governor General, gave it to me in 1968. There is no Liberal flag in my office.
Not a single Canadian political executive stands for election by appearing on a ballot. This is saved for their own tiny insulated little Riding and then only in the position of an underling. This is not how a democracy works. This is how a Monarchical kleptocracy and succeeds only with the ignorant acquiescence of the wholly owned serfs that labor under such a system.
Canadians are among the fairest and polite people the world has ever known. They are also among the most ignorant of their own Canadian civics and are reflexively anti-capitalist socialist slaves in a system totally and completely owned by a retarded foreign Queen and her retarded family.
I bet you feel so much better now after that addlepated rant.
I bet you feel so much better after you pulled that sanctimonious critique out of your a$$.
It was written by a regular guy who knows what he’s talking about, but absolutely – it could have used an editor.
So, if polish and consistency is what you’re looking for, the Toronto Star is your place. Have a nice time.
God bless you Kate and thanks for providing your invaluable site to us
I was responding to “LosDeplorables”‘s incoherent nonsense.
“…in a system totally and completely owned by a retarded foreign Queen and her retarded family.”
Whew, that’s a relief! Silly me, here I was worryin’ that the Chi-comms were running things.
Yes, it’s HM Elizabeth II that is the cause of our troubles. The power brokers of downtown Montreal and Toronto have nothing to do with it. The welfare states east of the Ottawa river have nothing to do with it. Trudeau, Pearson, Mulroney, Chretien, Martin et Le Dauphin, have nothing to do with it. Transfer payments have nothing to do with it. Unequal representation has nothing to do with it. No, its some lady that served her country (and mankind) by driving and fixing ambulances while Nazi bombs dropped on the only democracy that would stand in the way of pure evil. In the meantime, some effete, effeminate, rode around Montreal on a motorcycle in a German uniform.
Yes, there is a “retard” in this equation. But it sure as hell is not Liz
“The large majority of us westerners aren’t climate change deniers, just like the large majority of us westerners aren’t racists.”
And I’m done reading this. Please stop using enemy rhetoric against yourselves. You are accepting the frame the are imposing.
The climate has changed since creation. Now if you are referring to man made climate change, you had better be a denier, other wise you are believing in a scam. The details of this scam have been posted on this blog many times so there is no point in repeating.
I didn’t read it either, but its time for the west to check out of confederation.
sign me up!
In related news the Globe and Mail is excited that a Toronto city counsellor wants the city to sue oil companies over climate change. That will get more money out of Alberta.
“In related news the Globe and Mail is excited that a Toronto city counsellor wants the city to sue oil companies over climate change.”
Guess who that counsellor is!
Does the surname Layton ring a bell?
Will the Toronto city council sue the auto companies who make big gas guzzling SUVs?
And will they sue the governments who gave loans and tax breaks to those automakers who built factories to make gas guzzling SUVs and pick ups?
And will Toronto impose a gas guzzler tax on SUVs and pickup trucks?
Of course not.
Personally I think that climate change, if it really exists, is a good thing.
I note that, in this writer’s version of “Western Canada”, parts of BC (but not Vancouver of course) and Manitoba have been readmitted to the fold.
What will the next carefully gerrymandered iteration of “Western Canada” look like, I wonder?
Formidable exercise this. Lots to consider; Potential violent land grabs from all directions, pensions, immigrant vs native borne dilution, impending caliphate in Calgary, intellectually compromised and addictive population.
The people talking this up are the 40+ crowd that have some sense but I fear the bottom would drop out if the 6 TV entitlement is threatened. Would take a lot of guts and potentially blood.
As I read the article, it’s repetition of variations of “use your head and use your feet” reminded me of the song These Boots are Made for Walking.
If Ottawa continues its war on the energy industry of AB and SK and now seems intent on expanding the war to our agricultural industry while simultaneously extracting billions of equalization dollars from our taxpayers without meaningful discussion or consent then our options are quite limited. Passively accept more abuse and economic pain or “use our feet”. Did anyone in Ottawa really think that this wasn’t going to be the reaction?
“These boots are made for walking, and that’s just what they’ll do
one of these days these boots are gonna walk all over you.”
The newest belief is that the Clarity Act will prevent separation even if a referendum is successful. Nice hope in theory but in practice it would be a disaster. Holding a province(s) against their will after they vote to leave and dismantling their economy while still taking billions in equalization payments is a recipe for disaster….ironically coming from people who should understand from history how this plays out and who will be portrayed as the bad guys. Economic abuse through legislation then holding those people and provinces hostage while continuing to financially exploit them will not be a good look, Canada.
Hopefully the people here in the west will get angry enough about being continually milked that at some point will vote to leave.
Ha ha ha The Clarity Act Scam. Which is why Alberta and Sask, must never go that road. Never enter into discussions,, no SCOC challenges, get right to the point right now. Go UDI and bypass all the Canadian garbage. No Clarity Act, which is not even a part of the Constitution., No SCOC, no negotiations, we will give you 2 chickee balls for some chikee fried rice and a passport. No Indian Treaties, No Bilingualism, No Multicult, No Bullshit, cards on the table. Binding Referendum by the Premier of Alberta, Ottawa out of the Province with no say, or UDI and straight to a Republic of Alberta. Indians along with Blacks, Whites and everyone of legal voting age and legal voting rights in Alberta get to decide not Ottawa, not Quebec. Legal voters in Alberta would each get one vote. And to vote you would have to have been a legal resident of Alberta for at least 5 years. Not a legal Citizen by birth or Canadian Citizenship Papers no vote. Alberta has been a Colony all its life. Time for a new life, a better life for our families, children and grandchildren. 600B in criminal taxation did not even get you a equal vote. Get out get the hell out of the Criminal Corporation of Canada.
Look, two falsehoods, two falsehoods in one paragraph (iow he really does take us for the idiot he apparently is):
Trudeau: “There are 10,000 or so Lavalin jobs right across the country, 9,000, 10,000, in all sorts of different places around the country and if the company were to go through full criminal prosecutions, those jobs, absolutely, could be at risk… So we said there is this tool called deferred prosecutions, that is not letting the company off, it is making sure there are consequences, but in a way that doesn’t necessarily punish the workers.” Definitely not necessarily at all.
One. There are no jobs at stake, all SNC employees are quite busy and their CEO denies threatening to move their head office.
Two. Deferred prosecutions on the grounds of “national economic interest” are not permitted under the legislation.
Add that, along with deficits, recessions, infrastructure, help for seniors, soldiers and natives to your list of Grit lies.

Gwyn Morgan: How foreign groups influence our vote
Butts used his new position to bring other former campaigners with him. Mario Reynolds, Environment Minister Catherine McKenna’s chief of staff, is past executive director of the Pembina Institute, recipient of substantial Tides funding. Natural Resources Minister Amarjeet Sohi’s chief of staff is also a former WWF Canada official, and Sarah Goodman, policy adviser to the prime minister, is a former vice-president of Tides Canada.
With these people at the centre of power, it’s no wonder the oil industry, and the hundreds of thousands whom it employed, have plummeted into political and policy purgatory.
Now the mastermind behind that economic, social and national unity disaster has resigned. But there’s more disturbing news. I was startled to learn that Butts received two separate payments from WWF Canada totalling $361,642 during his first two years at the PMO. In a May 26, 2016, tweet to a question from Krause, Butts responded: “It was my contract severance.”
Over my entire career leading one of Canada’s largest companies and serving as a director of four others, I have never heard of severance paid when someone decided to quit their job. But then, given that he was receiving those payments from WWF Canada while at the PMO, one might conclude that he never really changed jobs. He just combined the old and new ones.
Read it all here there’s a lot more.

Needs a rewrite.
There’s zero evidence that CO2 is the control knob for temperature on this planet.
The evidence is clear that increased CO2 emissions are elevating temperatures. Deal with it.
On another angle…to what level of concentration do you wish CO2 to be reduced to?
If UnMe would just shut up, it would reduce significantly.
I’m not sure if I want it reduced given the benefits a warmer world may-may-bring. But a slowdown in rate of increase would be comforting.
Deal with what? Why is warmer a problem? Imagine a green Greenland.
Sometime soon the intra-glacial will be over and then it’s an ice age.
Hello Unme,
No, I’m not going to deal with it.
I’d rather you wet your pants precisely because we’re not dealing it.
Just Say No to CO2 Hysteria.
There’s Zero evidence that CO2 is the control knob for temperature on this planet.
If UnMe has the evidence, please call a press conference and show it off.
I’ll repeat something I posted a day or two ago. The demarcation lines in this Country are not so much along provincial boundaries, but rather, are delineated by rural vs urban mindsets.
I bring this up for two reasons. First of all, to reassure bitter westerners that they are not alone, but second, and most important, to point out that western separation can never be anything more than a pipe dream – because Alberta urbanites who expect governments to wipe their arses far outnumber those Albertans who do not.
100% agreed. (well 95% anyway). And it’s just getting worse. More and more people are of the mindset that working for a living (aka: earning your keep) is for the “other” guy.
I’d love to see Alberta and Sask separate, but it will never happen.
The tracks are laid down and our path is pretty much set in stone. All you can do is enjoy the show. (I already have my “Told you so” t-shirts printed.)
Urban vs Sanctuary Cities
Cities control the narrative for everything from communications to finance are headquartered there and population density.
Urban low population less representative in all areas of importantance we feed the cities with food and energy.
Urban wants to take control over cities stop feeding them energy and food and the narrative changes hands of power over to urban.
Cities would quickly self destruct since that is where the majority of the population have no idea on how to grow their own food so riots and mayhem would descend within days of shortages.
Agreed, and yes, they would self destruct. Are you talking about 1917 in Russia or now, here in Canada? As when the city folk got hungry they revolted and formed an ever more radical government that sent out armed Red Guards to confiscate the grain and livestock on the farms, and at the same time confiscated all the means of production.
It has been shown numerous times that a good percentage of urban voters can be bought by the highest bidder. Specifically for Alberta, simply make the argument that separation will dramatically increase the amount of revenues that can spent on urban priorities. That Alberta cities are getting less than their fair share from Ottawa and would get more from an independent Alberta. You don’t need every voter, just a clear majority. The urban working class in different from the urban academic or hipster.
That is true of all voters. Rural voters love their subsidized roads and internet infra and agricultural ‘supports’.
Then quit whining and appeal to urban and suburban voters. That’s where the future is, that’s where wealth is generated. The ‘rural folk’ are increasingly obsolete.
Rural folks are increasingly obsolete? Where do you think the majority of Canada’s resources, abundant energy, and food comes from? The city of Toronto, and even the whole GTA, would die a quick and violent death if everything had to be sourced within city limits.
Yes, fewer and fewer people are needed to get those things, so the people are increasingly obsolete. Besides, all that could be imported.
The rural-urban divide isn’t even as important as the young-old divide. At this point I’m just waiting for these old cranks to die off. Then people like me can have a shot at taking the power that is ours by right.
Unme without doubt you are unquestionably the least informed and stupidest individual I have ever had the misfortune to encounter. I would love to see Toronto, Ottawa, Calgary, Vancouver,Montreal, and many other cities survive without the things that sustain them from day to day. Like almost everything that arrives by truck or train every hour of every day. Actually you urban morons probably could not even print your own Commie Red Star or Gripe and Wail newspapers after ten days without your parasitical and symbiotic relationship with the rest of this country.
Unme, you can be very fun to debate when you’re being sincere but this isn’t one of those times. When you aren’t just trolling we should revisit this topic.
I saw that –
I’ll bet western separation could become a reality if the people were able to keep their hard earned income taxes that they send to Revenue Canada. It would have to be a campaign item, and that promise would have to be kept.
Remember, those taxes were supposed to be a temporary tax to help pay for the Great War over 100 years ago. Yeah, right, they got too comfortable on the money and they rewarded themselves with all kinds of goodies, like their own pensions for life and very generous ones at that.
Care to comment?
Alberta could redirect federal GST, PIT, CIT, etc. towards a mix of tax reductions, infrastructure and paying for the increased costs of being an independent country. CPP and EI need to be kept safely out of the hands of politicians, of course. Although I’d like to see CPP transition to lockedin RRSP or lockedin TFSA program for new workers, with GIS/OAS as a guaranteed safety net for seniors.
At the beginning, the main goal should be to attract investment with low CIT and low energy costs -and- reduce taxes for citizens…with just enough goodies to satisfy the social spending crowd. A strong economy allows for more generous social spending (not my preference, but…)
1 Samuel 8:10-14
(10) And Samuel told all the words of the LORD unto the people that asked of him a king.
(11) And he said, This will be the manner of the king that shall reign over you: He will take your sons, and appoint them for himself, for his chariots, and to be his horsemen; and some shall run before his chariots.
(12) And he will appoint him captains over thousands, and captains over fifties; and will set them to ear his ground, and to reap his harvest, and to make his instruments of war, and instruments of his chariots.
(13) And he will take your daughters to be confectionaries, and to be cooks, and to be bakers.
(14) And he will take your fields, and your vineyards, and your oliveyards, even the best of them, and give them to his servants…………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………….
……………………………………………………..(18) And ye shall cry out in that day because of your king which ye shall have chosen you; and the LORD will not hear you in that day.
I don’t see much value trying to articulate the east-west divide in Canada. There have been 100’s of Billions$ extracted from the West to the benefit of eastern Canada. The article borders on a attitude that existed in the ’90’s “let us in, we’re all Canadians”. I haven’t felt that way since the ’90’s and I doubt anything will change that. I would vote for separation in a heart beat. Funny how the resources from the West are always described as all of Canada’s and yet that is not the case in the east.
IMHO the last kick at the can was in Reform days. Any political will for change in the West requires a pulpit and that does not exist. Alberta Report is gone. Perhaps the Western oil industry will provide some leadership as their very existence is threatened.
Ultimately and inevitably, debt in Canada will bring the country down and into division. The West will shed the east with much acrimony and finger pointing but it will happen. Economic crisis usually leads to conflict, this will be no different. It should be very clear that responsibility for this collapse rests with both Liebel and CPC parties. The Liebels are a socialist/communist cabal and the conservatives are an inarticulate bunch dominated by eastern interests. My biggest disappointment is with the conservative movement that have been willing to sacrifice this country, Canada, for their own interests.
“My biggest disappointment is with the conservative movement that have been willing to sacrifice this country, Canada, for their own interests.”
Exactly! I despise those duplicitous, cowardly bastards as much as I do turdo et al.
At least turdo and his rotten crew never pretended to be anything but Liberals.

“A shocking poll reveals that 50% of Albertans support secession” I too am shocked by this poll, that there are only 50% of Albertans that support independence.
Ralph Klein said that the easiest way to win in politics is to find a parade and get in front of it.
Well, folks, the marching bands are starting to warm up. If Le Dauphin winds again, watch out. (Please lord!)
Sorry, that should have been wins again. Maybe winds would not be so out of place either 😉

Please please don’t saddle an independent Alberta with Saskatchewan, which is an NDP-dominated backwater. And no, it doesn’t matter much that they alternate with the other NDP party rebranded as the ‘Saskatchewan Party’.
I think I mentioned here that some radio talking head suggested that if one western separation candidate got 1000 votes in the AB election he’d personally deliver a case of beer to the candidate.
Separation is a pipe dream. Albertans are as socialist as any Canadian. Albertan’s are pissed about their place in the country tho. There are 4 librano seats in the province and if the vote were held today I don’t think there would be a librano elected.
It’s not the politics that are wrong with the country it’s the philosophy. When you’ve got a population that thinks government is the answer what kind of politicians do you produce? Ones that give you what you want.
If we had one professor in the philosophy department of every university in the country who didn’t espouse the philosophy of Kant and encouraged student to read Ayn Rand things would be different. No Department head would consider hiring such a person and so it goes. Kids are filled with bull shit even in the philosophy department.
It’s hopeless.
We were here at the same time thinking opposite thoughts. I am more of a positive thinker than you but like you, I have sometimes lost faith in humanity, because we are all fallible, unfortunately. What to do?

Well, now I have read the complete article. It is a great article and the only quibble I have with Russell Huck is, and I repeat myself, independence can’t come soon enough.
What do you think of the doubters here in this thread? There is some merit.
See@ 302pm JM , 9:55pm abt versus @ 9:52 NR?
I keep going back and forth in this regard. Ottawa would send in their clowns, I fear.
We cant expect our political masters to act in our rational self interest. They are acting in their own rational self interest.
Unless Canadians come to their senses nothing will change. The country has become a kleptocracy. The wealth of the nation is being stolen right in front of our eyes.
Canada is not a country it’s a concept.
Canada is still a great place to live. My forefathers came from Russia. They anglicized their name and became Canadians. They never looked back.
I dont think my 3 grandsons have the same country my grandparents/parents left me. I somehow dont feel like I caused the decline but it didnt get better on my watch either. It’s still a great country but it’s hard to be optimistic about the future.
The hell with it I’m pouring an Old Fashioned and listening to Cleo Laine sing ‘Send in the Clowns’.

“Send in the Clowns” by Cleo Laine
Thanks NR.
Cleo is another world singer but this vid is a bit disconcerting. Not sure what she’s up to but the voice is there.
Bernadette Peters is considered the premier interpreter of Steven Sondheim’s work. Check out her take on ‘Send in the Clowns’.
I didn’t see all of it when I posted it, but I see what you mean, after I took a second look. Perhaps the song from the record was dubbed in later because it sounded better. Who knows. She seemed rather melancholy though.
https://youtu.be/KOZhmsp6iBQ
This is Bernadette Peter’s version.
What we really need rather than western separatism is a national consensus to boot out the socialists of various disguises, and elect a truly conservative government that will restore sanity to economic and social policies. The only hope for that currently would be the PPC although some of the CPC caucus might still be worth supporting. I hope these elements come together sooner rather than later, show Mr Sheer-Madness the door, and get us pointed back to reality.
No carbon taxes, smaller government, less social engineering, purpose-driven immigration that meets legitimate economic objectives — it should not be that difficult to replace the mess we have today, turning people against each other as we are divided into camps of victims and people to blame for things they never did or could influence in any case.
Poly Sci snotty nosed and milk mustachioed Scheer was not a good choice, they dissed Max the older statesman who is an Ottawa educated lawyer from Quebec. What were they thinking? Another Trudeau term? We can’t afford this little boy.
On second thought, Quebec should leave Canada.
“… the majority of us westerners aren’t racists…”
You will be.
