How Deep, Señor Maduro?

Socialism. It’s what’s not for dinner.

Furious Venezuelans lined up to buy water and fuel on Sunday as the country endured a fourth day of a nationwide blackout that has left already-scarce food rotting in shops, homes suffering for lack of water and cell phones without reception.

Authorities have managed to provide only patchy access to power since the outage began on Thursday in what President Nicolas Maduro called an act of U.S.-backed sabotage, but critics insist it is the result of incompetence and corruption.

The government on Sunday suspended school and business activities for the following day without providing any information on a likely time frame for resolving the situation, leaving many fretting that it could extend indefinitely.

The country’s worst-ever power outage comes as Maduro faces a hyperinflationary economic collapse and an unprecedented political crisis. Opposition leader Juan Guaido in January invoked the constitution to assume the presidency after declaring Maduro’s 2018 re-election a fraud.

Angry residents of the Caracas neighborhood of Chacao on Sunday set up barricades along a main avenue and on side streets to protest the continued blackout.

  1. This will be our Catherine McKenna – Justin Turdeau future if we switch to solar and wind power. When it was cold in Alberta, solar was producing a fantastic 0% of capacity. Wind power was often less than 10% of capacity.

But the gangrene politburo will be safe and warm in their dachas.

    1. But the new, fantastic, outstanding green wind farm announced by Nutley will, fer shure add significantly to the power grid. After all, how could a solar array covering almost 1.5 square miles just outside Calgary not add to the output? Let’s see…0% of….is, gee…zero!

    2. Come to exotic Venezuela, lose 40 pounds in one month, return to mother nature, no cell phones, no unnatural lights, no water, you won’t have to shave your legs or armpits, be sure to bring your deodorant and body armor.

  2. The Enmax 800MW gas turbine in SE Calgary is the largest single plant generator on the Ab grid.
Wonder what the carbon tax bill per month is on that baby?
The engineer head of Enmax at the time got canned for having an employee party with Tom Cochrane. Nenshi not invited. Oops.

  3. > Unless the Cubans come to Maduro’s rescue, he’s going to end like Mussolini, shot thru the heart and hung upside down!

  4. The idiots in the Maduro regime blame Senator Marco Rubio…

“How did this blackout begin? What started the event?”

“There is no official information. The regime only says this is an act of sabotage, and that US Senator Marco Rubio and the Venezuelan opposition are to blame for it.

From people inside the electric industry, we know that an overheat alarm was triggered between the San Geronimo B and Malena substations, which are like nodes. San Geronimo B is just South of Valle de La Pascua (Guarico state, central plains); Malena is a bit in the middle of nowhere, between Bolivar’s Trocal 19 and the Orinoco River. From San Geronimo B substation, comes the electric load to power all the TVs, light bulbs, blenders, etc. At Malena substation end the cables that come directly from the turning water wheels of the Guri dam. If you follow the lines from Guri, the country’s main dam South of Ciudad Guayana, they go North from Guri to Malena and San Geronimo, and from there it splits into several lines going to the central region and then to the rest of the country (East and West).

This particular corridor carries three 765 kV (kilovolts) power lines, which are the largest and most important lines of the country. One of these lines, apparently the one between San Geronimo B and Malena, went out and overloaded the other two, so all three died. ”

Within the past decade, there have been repeated calls from those in the know of the Venezuelan electrical system, to make a plan for rebuilding the generators spinning inside the Guri Dam.

No action has been taken. No action is expected if the transmission lines can be salvaged. The budget is for food, to feed the military, to provide something for the masses that haven’t already left, and for dilutant to aid the heavy oil being pumped into the waiting tankers.

I expect this to absolutely end in disaster. The gig is up and the idiot Maduro doesn’t know it.
The people of Venezuela had their guns taken from them by the current gov’t. How long before the military is hungry? When their generators run out of fuel and they aim the guns at the Presidential palace at Miraflores

    1. I hate to admit it, but America is not far behind in our eroding infrastructure due to neglect by the public officials and agencies responsible for maintaining them. The failure of New Orleans officials to properly maintain the levees despite $ hundreds of millions in Federal Funds given for that purpose, should have been a wake up call to all Americans about how our tax dollars are being misused. The public sector UNIONS and corrupt leftist politicians have been looting the public treasury with outrageously gold plated pensions and benefits. The State of CA is paying so much in State pensions that smaller and smaller percentages of our taxes are being spent on actual services and infrastructure. So the government just RAISES taxes over and over to PAY for their mismanagement. Leftists HATE spending money responsibly. They come into government and simply see piles and piles of FREE money.

I just read today that NYC is hovering on the edge of bankruptcy, and all it will take is a slight economic downturn to destroy the city. And then there’s the case of the missing $850M entrusted to De Blasio’s wife. Hey! Did you know she’s black!? De Blasio loved telling everyone that fact when he was campaigning … does he want to associate his BLACK wife with the THEFT of nearly $1B in taxpayer funds? Yeah, he’d call me a “racist” for that. But he’s not a racist by USING her blackness as a campaign prop.

  6. When you disarm the people from their guns you can do anything to them since they can’t fight back.

This month’s NSA Puzzle Periodical pays tribute to the 1983 motion picture “WarGames.” In the movie a supercomputer is programmed to play Tic-Tac-Toe.

The computer plays itself with each X and O placed uniformly at random into any square (this means the computer plays without regard to strategy). What is the probability a game will end in a draw?

Assume perfect random number generation. The first X will be placed in any square with probability 1/9. The first O will go into any of the remaining squares with probability 1/8 and so on.

    2. It Exists: DOJ Finds Letter Ordering Scrutiny of Uranium One, Hillary Clinton

After it claimed no such document existed, the Justice Department just unearthed a letter Matt Whitaker delivered to the Utah U.S. attorney directing a review of how the department handled the Clinton Foundation and the Uranium One issues.

The existence of a letter documenting Sessions’ directive that the DOJ revisit probes of Trump’s top political foe is a surprise because a department lawyer said in court last year that senior officials insisted it didn’t exist. The liberal nonprofit American Oversight obtained the letter through a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request they filed on Nov. 22, 2017––the same day Whitaker emailed Sessions’ letter to Huber.

The request asked for documentation of the directions Sessions gave Huber about the review of the Clinton investigations. After DOJ failed to produce any written directions, American Oversight sued.

And on Nov. 16, 2018, Senior Counsel in the Office of Information Policy Vanessa Brinkmann, who handles FOIA Requests, said a lawyer in Sessions’ office told her no such letter existed. That lawyer spoke with Huber and Whitaker, she said in a declaration filed in federal court, and then told her that “when the Attorney General directed Mr. Huber to evaluate these matters, no written guidance or directives were issued to Mr. Huber in connection with this directive, either by the Attorney General, or by other senior leadership office staff.”

That wasn’t correct. On Wednesday of this week, a DOJ lawyer told American Oversight that they had found the document that kicked off Huber’s work.

The letter, which American Oversight provided to The Daily Beast, is consistent with what the DOJ’s chief of legislative affairs has told Congress: that Huber is scrutinizing the sale of a Canadian uranium mining company with interests in the United States to Rosatom, a Russian state-owned company. Republicans have long alleged that then-Secretary of State Hillary Clinton declined to oppose the deal because of contributions to the Clinton Foundation.

The DOJ hasn’t brought any charges related to the foundation or the transaction. Some Hill Republicans and conservative media commentators have long argued this is because the Department hasn’t sufficiently investigated it. They have called for the appointment of a special counsel to scrutinize the transaction.

  7. The power failure could be just coincidental with the political events unfolding, but I think it’s more likely someone engineered this. The three most probable candidates: anti-Maduro elements within Venezuela, the Americans, or the Maduro regime (false flag).

The reasoning behind the action is not complicated to discern for any of the the possible actors; the morality of the action is another thing.

    1. Power always goes out in Marxist regimes……Happens all the time in Cuba. They are just incompetent idiots. Same thing with their oil production. What bright ones they had have left and the dregs stay back.

      1. And here in Ontario, Doublsepeak Doug has increased the ethanol mandate and changed his mind about cancelling all the windfarm projects.
