The losses were attributed students who “mobbed” the restaurant and ate without paying, as well as homeless patrons who visited the restaurant for every meal of the week. The location eventually limited the homeless to “a few meals a week.”

The solution is simple. My Panera “Cares” storefronts would offer Vegan-only meals. Salads and soups only … NO MEAT … and NO bread whatsoever (too processed, too diabetic). Kale, beets, Bok Choi … every green and vegetable imaginable (except the starchy ones). We all KNOW that Vegans are the most carrrrrrriiinnnnnngggg of all people … so I KNOW my vegan customers will voluntarily $Pay BIG $ … extra $$$ for every meal … knowing that each of their payments will include a “proper”-meal for a starving student or homeless citizen. My vegan customers would make the Corporation $$$Rich$$$ … and will far exceed the number of my POOR, non-paying clients … and … I won’t have to pay any taxes when President Occasional Cortextie changes tax laws for … “socially responsible businesses”.

After raising the minimum wage and the extra taxes that Red Rachel slapped on us, the owner of that establishment was faced with a choice if he wanted to stay in business. He could either lay off some of his staff or cut their hours. He met with his MLA who, if I recall correctly, was a retired prison guard. She told him to suck it up because the only reason he was in such difficulty was because he wanted to make more money.

I was thinking along the same lines, Steve. I was going to say that the Marxist experiments in the USSR, China, etc. needed a better grade of human being as subjects but all they had to work with was normal flawed humans, which explains why they had to kill so many in trying to get it to work. Not surprisingly none of the Utopias ever got to the place where the state withered away and everyone lived together in peace and harmony as Marxist theory promised.

Apparently Colorado law doesn’t require a food handlers certificate for restaurant workers. A constantly changing crew of volunteers helping out in the kitchen would need a lot of careful monitoring. As a former restaurant owner, I actually applaud that they tried, as stupid a business plan as it seems.
Why, you may ask? Because, if the article is accurate, they did it all with their own money. And as long as they aren’t preaching to us about it and sucking taxpayer or even charity funds, it’s still a free country(so far) so I couldn’t give a rat’s pitooty if some leftards lost a bunch of money on one of their virtuous ideals, or not. It was their gamble to make and their money to lose.
Also, if they could afford to sustain 5 of these losing outlets for up to 9 yrs, then their other restaurants must be doing pretty damn well.
