Enjoy that crushing student loan debt, suckers.
The head of the University of Michigan’s wide-ranging diversity programs and enforcement activities is collecting an annual salary of $407,653, following a $11,100 raise in 2018. The university employs more than 48,000 people, of which 51 collect a base salary of $400,000 or above.
Robert Sellers, chief diversity officer and vice provost for equity and inclusion, has seen his income skyrocket since being appointed to the position in October 2016. According to U-M records, Sellers was paid $190,000 as a professor of psychology in 2012-13.
U-M President Mark Schlissel was paid $852,346 in 2018.
Sellers’ wife is also part of the diversity bureaucracy at the university. Tabbye Chavous Sellers is program director for the National Center for Institutional Diversity on the Ann Arbor campus. She made $181,404 in 2018. Robert Sellers and Tabbye Chavous Sellers came to U-M separately in different years long before they were married, according to the university. They report to different departments.
U-M describes Sellers’ academic background as this: “Dr. Sellers’ primary research activities have focused on the role of race in the psychological lives of African Americans. He and his students have developed a conceptual and empirical model of African American racial identity. The model has been used by a number of researchers in the field to understand the heterogeneity in the significance and meaning that African Americans place on race in defining themselves.”

maybe, just maybe….someone should mention to blacks….that black culture is not getting them anywhere
Oh really?
Tell that to the two Negroes in this story who are earning almost $600,000 a year combined
Surely; As Leslie Nielson would say in the Michigan University version of “Naked Gun”; Don’t call me Shirley and then the University of Michigan Board Of Trustees — when assured by the Bureaucracy self-empowered Salary Approval Committee — would climb up or off one of the University gargoyled fac=scade and would be rising; each and every member of the Michigan Board Of Trustees positioned them selves by Grabbing Their Own specific Gargoyle.
After my experiences in academe as a grad student and an educator, little surprises me about that system any more.
While I was teaching, my colleagues and I were told to take pay cuts and reduce our expenses. Meanwhile, the senior administration at the institution could afford things like new carpets every year. Our own staff association hired people who did stuff that our largely lazy and useless executive committee couldn’t be bothered to do. For example, during my last year of teaching, a contract administrator was hired and she was largely a drain on the staff association’s budget.
Sadly, much of the post-secondary system is a scam and it’s the students who have to fork over money to pay for it all.
“…and it’s the students who have to fork over money to pay for it all. ”
Yes, but the money they fork over isn’t theirs, they borrow it with an expectation that they won’t really have to pay it back, somehow. Somebody wil offer them the promise of writing off their loans in return for their vote. If they fall for that, they weren’t smart enough to invest an education in, and the taxpayers who weren’t smart enough to start voting against this scam a couple decades ago deserve the same amount of sympathy (i.e. none.)
“Experience keeps a dear school, but fools will learn in no other, and scarce in that.” – Benjamin Franklin.
As I mentioned further on, it’s all about graduation rates and prestige. One problem is that students often don’t make the connection between facilities and funding. Climbing walls and gym facilities with the latest exercise machines don’t come for free.
Same thing happening at Canadian universities.
No less than eighteen individuals working at UBC on “Equity and Inclusion”:
https://equity.ubc.ca/about/our-team/
BC: Is this called DUMBING down. I see teachers getting dumber and students getting stupid certificates for diversity and racial programs. WHAT IS CANADA COMING TOO!!! U of M seems to have lots of money to spread around to the faculty and then their students come out just as stupid as Canadians. I sure hope the students smarten up and realize they are being taken for a RIDE!! STUPID IS AS STUPID DOES!!!! or STUPID DOES AS STUPID IS!!!
It’s all about money and perceived prestige. Post-secondary institutions like to boast of their graduation rates because it helps sell what they have to offer. After all, who wants to apply to a place that has a high wash-out rate, right?
So, to actually have people graduating, many of those institutions won’t hesitate to lower the standards for passing. During my initial in-service session as a rookie, I was given to understand that it was expected that everyone passed, even if it meant that the lowest grade was 50%. My reaction was “Bollocks!” and I had no qualms about students failing if they didn’t know the course material.
On the other hand, my department head taught a course or two and he followed that rule. Many years ago, there was one student who showed up for a few weeks and then dropped out. She returned the following year, signed up for the same course, did the same thing, but managed to get a final grade of 50%, even though she didn’t complete it.
In addition, post-secondary institutions like to attract students with extra-curricular facilities and activities. Ever wonder why so many have things like climbing walls? The attitude is that if one’s institution didn’t offer such goodies, another one would, so guess where students might want to go?
But those activities and facilities aren’t offered for free. Guess who pays for them? And yet I’ve had to put up with students whining about how high their fees were.
I would genuinely be curious to see what these parasites do with their time.
cant be overt observation, that as we know changes behaviour.
covert, slip a device onto their person.
might even catch some sexism to end their parasitic existence.
the undergrads are all playing poker, they are gambling their entire financial future on landing one of these coveted zhobs.
There has to be a goal for students to strive for! The system needs to provide for its graduates after all.
I am starting to believe the true purpose of corporate HR is to introduce these concepts into the business world, forcing companies to hire those graduates who thereby force the employees to adhere to the lunacy.
The institutionalization of delusion will have consequences, and they won’t be pleasant.
Horry Fruck!..As they say in Richmond!
Lichmond
Don’t laugh too loud. If one day American universities are rid of affirmative action, it will be to please Chinese oligarchs who want their idiot sons and daughters to be guaranteed places at Harvard and Yale on the basis of scores on tests whose answer keys were bought in advance.
The point of all this is to drive white men out of the academy and out of the running for any job that will allow them to work indoors and not kill or cripple them before age 50.
Forgive me for saying so, Sir, but that’s an awful lot of
BULLDIVERSITY, Isn’t it?No mention of any students complaining. They’ve been well trained.
Complaining! au contraire, the dear little snow flakes are likely lined up to complain to people paid to listen and investigate all those hurt feelings. Someone might have had eye contact with someone who was offended by the intrusion. I wish I was being sarcastic.
The UM has MORE staff than students. MAYBE all the students are special needs getting one on one attention.
Students are seen by post-secondary institutions as being as fragile as porcelain dolls and need to be treated accordingly.
That’s quite a change from when I was a freshman undergrad some 45 years ago.
re chirese cheating? at university?
I knew about this in the early 80s when a colleague of mine who was monitoring an exam that I was writing busted up a cluster of them to prevent ANY kind of hand signals, whispered foreign language, ANYTHING they had in mind.
it was not racist.
it was based on recognized behaviour.
I passed a prof’s office whilst he was giving the heave-ho to a pair of dudes caught by a delightful bit of software written by a brilliant programmer that compared the *frequency* of variable names, (NOT their spelling,) to peg copied source code. later I dropped by to thank him for purging the course of cheats and pls continue to do so.
When I saw the same source code regurgitated with minor changes, I nixed it early on by adopting the approach of giving one of the pieces of work a grade, then on the next one saying “see ” for the grade, and linking them all in a long chain like this. At the end of the chain (i.e. the person who had to chase the most others) was whoever I suspected actually did the work that the others copied.
Doing this just once fixed the problem. The original author later confided in me that he only shared his work with one person, on the understanding that it was for inspiration only. He was mightily pissed at the number of people that ended up submitting copies of his work.
The people brainwashing students into hating capitalism ( and loving socialism ) make between $200,000 to 400,000 a year
hypocrisy on steroids
