It would mean as we head towards the vote, a government funded body would decide what is and is not fake news.
But apart from that worrisome prospect, the government funding a campaign to seek out disinformation might want to start in house.

Do you suppose any journalists welcoming this are smart enough to know it is a death blow to the media’s vestiges of credibility? Or maybe they don’t care much, anyway. Ironically, Trump justifiably hates the media yet inadvertently does them good by giving them a target. Meanwhile, Trudeau has just destroyed them. Why would anyone believe anything they write now?
Good news is, I will no longer feel like a paranoid when I begin ranting about bias.
They don’t care. The Internet has killed traditional media. Those still employed are holding on by their finger nails.

Trump proposes ‘worldwide network’ to counter CNN overseas
NEW YORK — President Donald Trump is raising the possibility of starting “our own Worldwide Network” to counter news spread internationally by CNN.
Trump said via Twitter on Monday that CNN “has a powerful voice portraying the United States in an unfair and false way. Something has to be done.”

‘Maybe we’ll give that a shot’: Donald Trump praises Xi Jinping’s power grab
US president says it is ‘great’ that the Chinese premier has paved the way to become president for life
Donald Trump has celebrated Xi Jinping’s bid to shepherd China back into an era of one-man dictatorship, suggesting the United States might one day “give that a shot”.
I wonder if these idiots who breathlessly report that Trump wants to be president for life have ever heard of the 22nd Amendment? This may not qualify as “fake” news but it certainly fits all the criteria of “stupid” news. Trump is quite obviously pulling someone’s chain in order to get a predictable reaction.
“I wonder if these idiots who breathlessly report that Trump wants to be president for life have ever heard of the 22nd Amendment?”
Yes, I’m always amused at this sort of nonsense. And it’s wonderfully “bi-partisan” on the fringes of the political spectrum! When Bush was in the White House, left-wing moonbats insisted he was going to suspend the constitution, impose martial law and become president for life, yadda-yadda-yadda. Then when Obama was in office, the wingnuts on the right claimed the very same thing.
And yet, Bush and Obama are both gone – just as Trump will be gone by January 2025 at the latest.
The Constitution can be suspended, as has been proven with the imprisonment of Japanese Americans during WWII.

“I would love to be able to bring back our country into a great form of unity,” Trump said. “Without a major event where people pull together, that’s hard to do. But I would like to do it without that major event because usually that major event is not a good thing.”
‘A government funded body would decide what is and is not fake news.’
Reminds me of Germany 1930, they determined what news you saw and heard,
Then a Government body decides how you should Vote.
Trudeau declares as fake news : “New Jobs Losses, More Manufacturing Leaves Canada”
This is not so, says Trudeau, people are being misled into believing that they have been laid off. This hasn’t happened and in fact new jobs are materialising all the time. Reports of people not receiving a payslip, or with empty bank accounts, are not true. These are simply russian bots, pretending to be people, so it is commanded that the media ignore them and not give any time to covering these false stories.
He’s embarrassing us all at the G20 telling everyone that pipelines are a problem because male workers disrupt and create issues in the rural areas the pipelines are going through.
rural areas the pipelines are going through
You mean those regions of flyover country who refused to acknowledge his greatness by voting for him, don’t you?
Not ALL of ‘us’ – I doubt that his supporters see anything other than the usual moonbeams & pixie dust.
Just ignore that the union of journalists in Canada have openly stated that they are the “Resistance” against the Conservative Party in the next election. And just ignore that Great Leader is buying them off with millions of taxpayer dollars. Just concentrate on Justin’s funny socks and his upcoming Christmas photo with the latest muslim terrorist.
Christmas
Considering the day he was born, shouldn’t it be a birthday photo?
Canada’s leading export is it’s best and brightest entrepreneurial minds, and it’s leading import is illiterate filthy Muslim boy-raping vagina mangling invaders hell bent on destroying Western civilization
Yes, my daughter, one of a handful of women computer programmers has moved to Chile – she fell in love with the country, the climate and her husband. Is working for an American multi-national, doing well. FYI – Chile is very “picky” about who they let into their country – allowing in “some” Venezuelans (middle-class professionals) and “some” Haitians to work in agriculture.
The government allocates $600 million to help journalism. And the government wants to control fake news. And the largest news organization in Canada is the CBC, which already gets about $1.5 billion from the government. I remember having dinner in Moscow in 2005 with a colleague who sarcastically told me how Russian journalism operated.
There will be no problem with fake news when Trudeau and Cabal of nincompoops fork over the big bucks to “trusted media”…..oh, wait….
The majority of the Canadian media have always been the Liberal’s best friends. Jounalists were already giving away “Heel” and “Sic Em” for free. It’s now clear that adding “Beg, Roll Over, Fetch and Play Dead” will require extra treats. About $600 million or so. Good boy!!

This is the price for being on the government’s welfare payroll. All it’s costing them is their press freedom, personal dignity and professional credibility. But, hey, it’s their call.
Fake news = bad news for them. That is why they are propping up the dead dinosaurs of print elitist media.
Their Halifax to Toronto “cross country” panels say it all, the rest of you are undesireables who need to shut up, step and pay up.
They know they have their back. CBC et al, like their US counterparts, don’t even bother to hide their bias.
Anybody west of the Lakehead is a red necked rube with apparently nothing to add to national discourse.
I suspect the Newfs are not in on the plan now that they’ve found their economic epiphany in oil largesse.
The other big island is all in progressive sandal wearing tree hugger, but with their wallets in their front pockets, so there is hope.
Actually, I’ve decided to pray Justin sticks with his national carbon confiscation strategy and gender neutral government.
We might as find out right away if we’re doomed to his excesses because the right can’t get its act together.
The gov’t having a say on what is real or fake news is only the second worst decision the Liberals have made.
It’s reparable in the first year of a different gov’t having power in Ottawa, so is the pipeline fiasco that has screwed the west so throroughtly.
The million new refugees, (and continued walk across behavior of them) from shit hole countries will impact Canada for the long term, and is not a repairable situation with a new federal gov’t. Un signing the new UN migration idiocy will be a problem as well, especially while Andrew Scheer is not noted for having spine on this sort of thing.
Though not being able to report on Toronto becoming the new rape capital of Canada, our Malmo Sweden so to speak, will be a problem.
Which leaves the Rebel, and Brian Lilley.
Possibly Breitbart Canada, The Daily Caller Canada… ?
and blogs like SDA.
You’ve got your work cut out for you Kate. Whether or not you were looking for more work…
“…especially while Andrew Scheer is not noted for having spine on this sort of thing”
Heh. Or on anything, for that matter.
Other than a handful of conservative journalists, it’s hard to think that those dutiful members of the institutional left masquerading as “private sector” journalists could be more in the tent of the Spawn and his ilk if they were now publicly subsidized for that purpose. If anyone here actually interacts with Canada’s media, perhaps asking them if they would still support this government appointed gatekeeper committee determining news legitimacy if, say, Ezra Levant or Steven Harper chaired it. Their answer would tell you all you need to know about the purpose and intent of the Spawn adding to his history of outstanding achievements (even for Liberals) at further corrupting the nation.
I believe everything the government tells me and everything the press writes is the utter truth with no omissions…
said no one ever who wasn’t a full retard or a commie piece of shit.
The Back Holes who attack freedom of speech and liberty itself, like No Time McKenna and PM Douchebag and basically every Liberal whore who walks and squawks, are going to get even greater pushback on this than they think and that’s when the reaping and the sowing begins.
are going to get even greater pushback on this than they think
That’s wishful thinking. Most Canadians I know won’t get upset about anything unless it restricts their access to Tim Hortons or interrupts hockey on TV. Beyond that, they couldn’t care less what happens.
The best counter to “fake news” is a free press not beholden to government and – more importantly – representative of the full political spectrum rather than all bunched up together and sharing the same like-minded, self-congratulatory position.
Merely reinforcing a strongly held belief.
1 those entities that receive subsidies are wary of political parties that have a philosophy of less government. Less government means fewer subsidies, hence those parties that advocate for smaller governments are deemed an exisential threat depending on the percentage of the bottom line is covered by the subsidy. This opposition is relational to the amount of subsidy they receive.
So its completely reasonable to expect the CBC to be very critical of real conservatives as they are a threat to their business model.
I’m sure most SDA readers have already realized that the long game is to link every anti-globalist concept with Russian interference and internet trolls. It’s a self-fulfilling prophecy or circular argument, that goes like this, only Russians and/or (their) internet trolls believe A, therefore if a political party in a western country runs on policy A, they are dupes of Russia and their internet trolls.
Thus we find that climate realism, national sovereignty, border protection, gender realism, Clinton justice seeking, and anything negative about China, will fall under the heading of internet troll fake news, and can be banned from public discussion (if the elites have their way). Oh right, I forgot, elites. That’s another concept of Putin and his trolls.
The idea that the people themselves might question the globalist agenda is unthinkable to said elites, who don’t even exist, they are just naturally superior people who should be in charge of everything. And if you want to see how it works out, just go to California, their showcase prime example of what happens when superior people govern and inferior people flee the inferno.
I hope some of the more elaborate conspiracy theories prove true because it will add decades of jail time at an opportune moment. Some of our elites deserve to be in jail for what we already know to be true, but if some of the other stuff “out there” is also true, well, throw away the key. The proof should not be that hard to find, for example, pedophilia must by its very nature involve either victims who could talk about it, or missing persons. I don’t think it’s quite as bad as the most pungent of theories, but I do think it’s worse than many people would care to admit or imagine. And it does need to be investigated.
A good place to start would be the Clinton Foundation and links to Haiti and the so-called pedophile island in the Virgin Islands. We won’t really have anything remotely resembling rule of law in our western nations until our elites are forced to submit to the same justice that they expect the little people to respect and obey. We are nowhere near close to that state of affairs in any country except possibly Hungary and one or two others. But I like the start they are making in Brazil.
As for Trump, he needs to get going, two years in and no indictments, no wall, no cultural Marxist penalties of any real consequence. If not now, when? A few more years of attrition and porous borders, and we can forget about a second chance.
Peter,
On Hannity tonight they said that on Monday night there will be breaking news. Apparently there will be indictments in the next few weeks going down. No other details.
to think our parents and grandparents died to keep this stupid country alive.
