… the combination of regulations and procrastination, surreal taxation, endless court battles, and insensate opposition by brigades of wild-eyed foundations and NGOs can be said to constitute a “policy” only in the way that tumbling off a precipice to splatter on the rocks below might be described as “finding a neat shortcut to the valley.”
h/t Nancy

sorry Rex, no carbon taxes on carbon based organisms ever. everybody except the socialists have had enough of taxes. Time to stop all tax increases period.
And the socialists, in general, don’t pay taxes anyway……what we need perhaps, is “No representation without taxation”.
As I’ve noted so many, many, times, some people need to hurt, and hurt badly before they wake up.
Canadians chose poorly.
Lewis Carol? Agreed.
But Jonathan Swift described such a country in “Gulliver’s Travels “.
We have become Lilliput.
A land run by small people that have an abominable annoying pretense of being formidable.
No, Laputa, a land run by crazy people and a tyrannical king.
It’s Butts’s baby, the LEAP Manifesto.
Ontario voters reduced his old party, the Ontario Lieberals, to seven seats in the last election(their entire party can fit in a minivan).
For Trudeau let’s aim for fewer than 5.
Ontario voters finally punished the Liberals, but the damage was done and it almost impossible to fix.
Nah Ken, I think if the Curent Ontario Govt REALLY wanted to fix things….? They would:
A: De-certify EVERY Public Service Union in the province
B: Reduce their overall compensation by 15%
C: Privatize Liquor/Pot Sales
D: Privatize Registries
Public Servants and their Marxist UNION Leaders my friend, are the enemy of the people. And by far, the largest Expense in running a government…and to me..? the root of much of the Socialist Evil in Western Hemisphere Nations
Ralph Klien understood that. To date the ONLY politician to have ever even done anything remotely resembling my suggestion.
I read somewhere that of 4.5 million total unionized workers in Canada, 3.7 million are public servants.
Anybody know if this is correct?
Seems like the perfect target to me to begin to turn this tanker.
At least for a real Conservative Party.
I guess it depends how you define “public servants”. Do you consider teachers and nurses public servants? I do. The unions with more than 100,000 members are:
Canadian Union of Public Workers: 635,500
National Union of Public and General Workers: 360,000
UNIFOR: 300,152
United Food and Commercial Workers Canada; 247,543
United Steel, Paper and Forestry, Rubber, Manufacturing, Energy, Allied Industrial and Service Workers International Union: 190,452
Public Service Alliance of Canada: 181,017
Fédération de la santé et des services sociaux: 135,527
Service Workers International Union: 126,656
The 2 largest unions, representing over 1 million members, are public. Plus there are many mid-sized unions such as provincial teachers unions, which when you add them up, are larger than Canada’s largest private sector union UNIFOR, which is national.
https://www.canada.ca/en/employment-social-development/services/collective-bargaining-data/reports/union-coverage.html#appendix4
Implementing policies that the public unions don’t like is difficult given the number of union members. It’s like they are their own political party.
unfortunately liberal voters tend to flop further left when they don’t vote liberal.
I agree that Alberta needs to play hardball. When Kenny becomes the premiere, the equalization referendum should also include a question about separation negotiations if a better deal for Alberta can not be arranged. And not just a better equalization deal. Any deal should include a no meddling in the energy industry in any way, shape or form clause with steep penalties/compensation for breaching the no meddling agreement. Federal Liberal governments always harm Alberta’s economy to please Central Canadian and eastern Canadian voters — this needs to stop. Plan the Alberta referendum vote to be a short time after the federal election so the way Alberta gets treated in confederation gets a thorough debate in the rest of Canada.
BTW, I’m not from Alberta, I’m just a concerned Canadian citizen.
Most Albertans will not support separation. What might be better is for Kenny to pass a law saying “Alberta will collect income tax and then remit some money to Ottawa”. The Feds will object and go to court – but then that is time to use the “not withstanding clause”.
Also Alberta should get rid of the RCMP and create it’s own provincial police force.
I’m not so sure. The prairies are the birthplace of both the CCF/NDP in the depression era and the (western) reform/alliance party after Trudeau Sr.’s NEP. There’s always a quiet but simmering resentment of Ottawa and the Liberal party. Combining the historical spirit of creating protest parties with a dictatorial central government means all you need is a strong, charismatic leader. A Douglas or Manning. At this point, I don’t think it would take much to go from simmering to boiling over.
Canada needs Alberta more than Alberta needs Canada. Alberta’s best trading partner is the US, who buy Alberta’s products and who can sell Alberta every thing that can be imagined (no strings attached). Most of the important parts of government are already provincial responsibilities. Alberta could pursue its own competitive tax structure, sane regulations, more trade, build pipelines, free itself of equalization payment….
How exactly does Canada benefit Alberta? I see more harm from being ruled by Ottawa than benefits.
Albertans like to think of themselves as northern Texans but they are more like southern Norwegians. They look to the government for everything.
I somewhat agree but it would be easier and more efficient to get government largesse from a close-by Alberta government than Ottawa, especially when it’s run by the Liberal party that that uses Alberta money buy off Quebec.
Hardball?
It is to laugh.
Using The Stupid Tax as a glaring example, I would suggest that wiffle ball may even be beyond your abilities.
The Kyoto Protocol, Global Warning, Anthropogenic Global Warming, Man-Caused Global Warming, Climate Change, Climate Change Pollution………….
Al Gore, David Zuzuki, Michael Mann, Stephane Dion, The Jejeune, Hollywood, etc………never changed an iota….jet-setting easy targets……….
Hockey Sticks, Emails, Hypocrites Extreme, Just Another Tax………..ON EVERYTHING.
Know the temperature to a thousandth of a degree in 150 years yet cannot predict it reliably for this afternoon.
All this and much more…..(see Kate’s Temperature Sensor Swindle).
With such easy pickings, the entire, assembled might of Alberta has swung an air punch, turtled and continually squeals like a little girl as the Liberals put the booties to them.
Keyboard warriors all.
And pretty poor at that also, apparently.
Rex, this isn’t by accodental orincompetent policy; this is the result of deliberate policy.Gerald Butts is achieving WWF goals. He is a green ideolog. He did the same to Ontario. He is a follower of the evil Maurice Strong
Yep.
Take one Dyed in the wool Eco-NAZI (Butts) Add one Communist Lover with a genetic & learned Hatred for Alberta and you get the perfect storm.
Trudeau is on record for stating that Qubecers are “better” than les Anglais overall – and that Alberta has apparently “always” led the country on “socio – economic” terms. Whatever the F that means…but it gives perfect insight into his mindset. He Loves China’s Basic Dictatorship – Admired Castro and he simply HATES us as did Daddy. Communist 100%
Gerald is on record for stating that Gaeia can only sustain 1 Billion souls and that Envionmental Policy should be one way of reducing our overall numbers. He prefers ENERGY Poverty for all in that quest. One can see clearly what this kind of thinking has done to Ontario where this winter (Maunder type weather), will increase the numbers of those who must decide to HEAT or EAT. Nazi 100%
S0….A NAZI & a COMMUNIST together in the PMO. 2 happy traitors on track to create their trans national state of misery. Done under the guise of Gender Nutrality & Environmental Policy. As for their God, Maurice, may that POS rot in hell….
SEPERATION..?? Goddmaned Right.
Norway Heritage Fund = $1 Trillion
Alberta Heritage Fund = $Change Under Couch Cushions
Y’all sure you don’t need some adult supervision?
That old saw is getting monotonous. Norway is a country, not a province that is pillaged by a hostile central government thousands of miles away. And it is a country that welcomes development of their fossil fuel resources…..not one that is openly malicious.
Poor widdle wabbits.
Meanie Wiberals.
Therapy?
Dit da si-wee widdle weemer (lemur) foeget to take meds again?
Not only that but Norway has very high taxes. They are paying as they go and saving for their future. Alberta has very low taxes. They are using oil to subsidize their current standard of living. There is no right answer. You can go either way, but you can’t do both at once.
One can certainly see why Rex is no longer part of the CBC. Common sense (and well articulated) isn’t allowed anywhere near that snarky gaggle of leftist parrots and partisan functionaries.
Lots of barking but Alberta is a beaten dog. Its too fearful to bite the nasty master and to fearful to run away.
Those cowardly French show the He-men of Alberta how to deal with egregious governments.

Hello?
Alberta?
Is this thing on?
Sorry Buddy I don’t agree with you Alberta and Sask residents are probably the hardest working, bullheaded, self thinkers there are in the world.Trudeau has pushed these people beyond the breaking point I honestly see the west parting from eastern Canada in some form. The snot nosed weasel running this country has no idea the hornets nest he has opened up.
Albertans won’t do anything except complain at the Tim Horton’s while being served by an imported Filipino keeping their wages down. Or maybe their radar will go off as they head up 36/52 St wondering why nobody looks like them past 16 Ave. You know, because the last “Conservative” government did just so much to alleviate these issues….. or helped bring them on.
They’ll vote for the Pander Bear just *knowing* that he’ll fix everything but not seeing he’s just another globalist.
Believe me, I want Alberta and Saskatchewan to separate so I can go move there if I get the chance to retire. I live in the heart of Ottawa FFS.
Not much more to add. I’ve always thought we should join the States. Still do. This dictator is shoving down our throats stuff we already said we didn’t want when Stephane Dion proposed the Green Shift. It’s all lies, lies, lies!
Freaking sick, sick, sick of their stupidity!
Rex is handing the election file to the Tories. I hope they’re smart enough to take it.
I think the French protests prove one thing that if you push anyone to far they might bite back.As they say there is nothing scarcer than a French war hero, the only country to have back up warning beepers on their tanks and to many people named mort.
Oh, I would say real, effective Conservatives in Canada are much scarcer, possibly extinct.
You Potemkin Conservatives really just play the Washington Generals to the Liberals’ Globetrotters.
Bite back?
Whatcha gonna do?
Vote for the Stalin Party?
Send a strongly worded missive to the Toronto Star?
Protest during the Supreme Courts daily nap?
Please.
You guys are as ferocious as those cute little white kitties on the toilet paper commercial.
At least we’re cute. You have a point but we are fighting back. One of the ways is to learn about and use the tax structure to our advantage. It used to be that only the very rich and/or well-connected new about family trusts, layered corporations, tax incentives and so on. Now most people who are self-employed are paying less tax than the average public worker earning the same salary. Morneau knows this. This is why the Feds tried taking away some of our gravy last year. It didn’t work because now the doctors have learned the trick and operate as corporations even though they are employed directly by the government (they don’t meet the basic requirement of having more than one client – the government). You [the government] don’t screw around with doctors.
There is a serious problem in this type of fight back. The taxes collected by the government become more difficult to collect so they either increase the rates or tighten the loopholes. When you have people who earn $90,000 a year using tax loopholes you know there is a problem with taxation.
I think it is pretty clear at this point; Canada has no future. Any so called “leader” who does not acknowledge this, needs to be trash canned. It may already be too late to get out, but getting out is the only way any one or any region survives.
And as for negotiation? There will be none. Declare independence, and build a wall at the border. Ontario and Quebec can have all the debt they want, and there will be no more equalization, no more CBC, no more CN, CP, Air Canada, nothing,
If you find yourself in an independent west, and anyone suggests that it needs a state broadcaster, you should of course perform summary execution. Any country with a state broadcaster is not free, and we should have no treaties, no diplomats, no communication of any kind with slave countries.
Kevin – that is really what it has come to. After the 2019 election when the financiallyt supported government hoards give the liberals another go people may wake up . It is lunacy to believe Max or Andrew are going to save us .
Yup. When we need anger, balls and backbone, we have …… Andrew Scheer.
It had to happen: sooner or later someone would come along who would make Joe Clark look like Rambo.
Oh don’t exaggerate 🙂
“It had to happen: sooner or later someone would come along who would make Joe Clark look like Rambo.”
Sadly, that is correct. That about sums up the opposition to PM Butts destroying Canada’s economy.
